  1. Oh this reminds me. Here's the full (?) episode I found on YouTube of that show where they had those two ladies fangirling over his jacket-removing capabilities: It actually also features Akiko Suzuki and Kenji Miyamoto as the episode's special guests. This was recorded shortly before the GPF. Here's roughly what was said between the 10:12 and the 11:20 mark: Oh, and I found this: Did you have a good time filming this, @Anony?
  2. It's not for everyone. And it's actually the whole egg. You beat it and then you pour it over through a pair of chopsticks or a fork. If the egg's fresh, like fresh-from-the-farm fresh, you're good. If it's more than a day old, you might wanna consider frying, boiling or poaching it first.
  3. I haven't been able to put my finger on it but researching some old performances I saved onto my HD, I was finally able pinpoint where I saw the pattern on the current incarnation of his SEIMEI costume before, or at least a closeish semblance of it:
  4. That sounds like a warning for an incoming big-ass hurricane or something, lol. Hope he doesn't end up burning a trail and melting the ice. Cos that'd just leave him and others with nothing but slush and turn the whole thing into a swimming contest. The way he talks reminds me of the way Hanyu talks in press conferences sometimes, at times when he's putting in extra thought into his answer and slowly weighs his words. I mean, not the content, but the tone and manner.
  5. Right...this is a tad embarrassing and awkward since I've never rooted for anyone to this degree before but I figured since I had a spare ema lying around at home, I finally got this done today: Here's what the ema looks like from the front (this is an earlier snapshot, when this lil project of mine was still a WIP): ...don't ask and i won't tell. Oh, and those two omikuji both say kichi so it's all good! Feel free to post your own wishes and prayers for him in this thread, like it's a little shrine right here at PH Simple ones in normal posts will do. I only did it the way I did cos I had an ema lying around collecting dust, and I had more wishes than I did ema... Anyway, the more wishes, the better!!
  6. I wasn't thinking in terms of a push or anything overly complicated or in any way grandiose. My idea was a simple money pool, and not quite a long term plan, where people can wire money over to a designated person between a time period (say from now to just before the Games or something, or longer, or a target amount could be set) which will then be recorded in an excel spreadsheet that's open for all to see. It's basically the system the admins are using for how people can donate to keep this forum running, I think. Complete with a thread where people can comment in when they've made a donation. After the closing date, the money pooled can be wired to a charity organization with a short message saying it's just a little something from a small group of Hanyu fans from all around the world. All announced in the thread, of course, proof of transaction included. And when the organization responds, it gets posted for all to see as well. Once that's all done, the bridge thing can be set up for whoever feels they want to donate as well but missed the window. I mean I dunno how feasible it is, because it really is a very simple idea, but if you're asking me, there you go.
  7. Ha That's fine, if that's what is realistically doable. Though I'm not sure I'll be galvanized enough to take action because I do already know which channels I can go through to make donations towards the Tohoku earthquake relief fund so if I wanted to do it I might as well just do it through these channels like I did twice before. Which I may at some point, but likely not right now.
  8. I guess "in his name" wouldn't be accurate, if I were to scrutinize it. It's just when it was mentioned in the initial idea throwout over in the other thread, the bolded bit is the idea I got. Like, "Hi, <insert charity organization here>, here's some money a bunch of us Hanyu fans from all over the world scraped together and we'd like to use it to help the people of Tohoku." That's it. No fuss. No fanfare. His name is only mentioned to identify us as a group and how we came together. And the people of Tohoku can continue being proud of their prodigal son. I don't mean it has to be a huge unofficially official drive, where we go around asking for donation using his name. That I can see a pretty big problem with. But a small private one among forum members, I don't see a problem with at all. I sincerely do not see anything negative in this or have any hangups over it the way some of you here seem to have. It's sensible, it's in no way intrusive and it's a form of paying forward while allowing people to feel a quiet pride in their homegrown talent. No problem if it doesn't happen. But if it does, I'll be happy to donate. That's all i'm saying. That said, out of all the other charity ideas tossed about, this one is the only one I feel comfortable and a sense of personal justification in contributing towards via a fan project, because it's both a humanitarian cause and closely related to Hanyu. It's also the only one where I feel the message is less, "We love you, Yuzuruuuuu!", and more, "Thank you, Yuzuru Hanyu." But I consider all charity work as good work so if you all decide to go ahead with the project but choose a different channel, like I said earlier, I'll still support it.
  9. I dunno. Personally, I feel it's a great idea. There are many other charities that exists and the Great Tohoku Earthquake of 2011 isn't the only disaster. I like to think my heart is in the right place but I'm not saintly, altruistic or selfless enough to donate all the time in whatever form which means I'll only donate when I come across something that really strikes a chord within me. And sometimes, there are more of them than what I can afford to give so I have to make choices. I made a couple of donations when the disaster first struck but seeing as I'm neither Japanese nor from the Tohoku region, I wouldn't be following it up with subsequent donations cos I'd be looking at other charities and I can only give so much. But if there's something to galvanize me, I'd start giving towards it again. Hanyu is one such galvanizing factor for me. By now, it's less about Tohoku and more about Hanyu himself and how much his skating and the kind of choices he has made in life mean to me. The way Tohoku is so closely tied to him makes it a worthwhile channel to show my appreciation of him as both a skater/competitor and a person, because it is what helped shape him. This gesture would also help prove that his skating has a profound effect and that he wasn't wrong in choosing to continue to skate when he was at a crossroad, that he didn't abandon his hometown in its time of need but instead helped it, that his skating directly help brought change that would help his hometown, something that he felt it didn't do. It's also easier for those of us who find it easier to do something like this to show our appreciation than making him something from scratch (I dunno about others but me, I'm a lazy, talentless hack) and it does more good than simply buying him something to send to him. Of course, Tohoku isn't the only channel for this and ultimately, it's down to what the people who are spearheading this project find doable. I was merely stating if I were to make any monetary contribution, the Tohoku one made in his name would be one that would convince me to perhaps use the money I've been saving up for something else towards it instead. People reading this can feel free to judge me all they want, but this is the reality of this situation when it comes to me. I realize I may not live up to certain standards but I don't feel it makes me any less sincere for it. It doesn't have to be loud nor does it ever have to get back to him. A quiet donation made by a group of people who got together to do this for him and by extension, those he cares about, because they feel inspired to is a beautifully meaningful gesture in and of itself. If you have private reservations and are more comfortable doing it separately on your own, that is fair, but I'm sorry if there are those of you whose view is too clouded by judgment to see the beauty behind the gesture for what it is. Even if Tohoku has my vote and my pledge to donate is for this channel only, whatever the people who are organizing this decide to go with, they would still have my wholehearted support.
  10. This seems like a door that can be knocked on. The Japanese version of the site is more comprehensive of course, with more recent updates, but there is a contact form that you can send queries in English through. Anywho, what's most important is that the ones doing all the work find it doable, so whatever you guys ultimately decide to come up with, I'm sure he'll love it. ^^
  11. If a fan-organized Tohoku restoration drive ever takes off, I'll be more than happy to make a monetary contribution. You can consider this a pledge. It's humanitarian, it's tied to his "skating jinsei", and it'd be thanking those who supported him despite their own hardships. So out of all the ideas pitched, this one is the most appealing to me (in case you're taking votes).
  12. Ah, then I believe what you're referring to would be part of the necessary evil (tho it's not evil per se, I'm merely using this term as the concept of arrogance itself carries a negative connotation) for him to achieve what he needs to achieve. What you're describing sounds a lot like gravity. >_<
  13. Whoops! Sorry. Problem fixed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. =) It's a lot of work but it's fun work so every second I spent doing it was a wonderful one. You're all welcome, btw. I mean it when I said it's been a true pleasure.
  14. I hesitate in deeming him arrogant, at least in his choice to serve the music rather than the more common practice of doing it the other way around. He only came to the realization when Miyamoto was choreographing HnN for him and only when Miyamoto gave him all that input about his spins. He was all about doing what he's good at before that bit of guidance provided to him by Miyamoto. So it shows that he took the experience and input of others that he deems wiser and make a lot of sense and willingly changed his style based on them. Which is basically his whole MO anyway. His whole style is based on what he has appropriated from others which he then smashed together and synthesized and evolved till they become something that's uniquely his own. That's quite the opposite of arrogant, if you asked me. There may other aspects of him that can be deemed as arrogant (I can name one or two but the way he applies it, I find it a necessary evil for him to deliver the kind of results he is delivering) but in this, I think he's far from it.
  15. The rabbit's spot rightfully belongs to Kumamon. And there's still more than enough space for Musubimaru and Domokun.
  16. The plot thickens... I'll be taking this back now. Thanks very much.
  17. *doki* That's a fantastic screenshot~! What an incredible fighter~ Unlike the men's field in the comp, whose turnout has made things less predictable and less high octane, the competition in the ladies' one is super stiff, mainly because out of the six, she's the only one who still gets lowballed by judges (while the other five tend to get more inflated scores from them) so it'll be incredibly hard even if she were to skate her lights out, if everyone else skated clean. Unless, of course, this competition becomes a huge turning point for her score-wise, even when measured up against the judge's favorites. However it plays out, this experience, would be an especially good one for her. I'm really looking forward seeing her compete and I pray, despite being far from religious, that she'll have a wonderful time there. And wow...she's the only one of Asian descent there this year.

  19. Bringing it back to the general thread since this is OT in the other thread. I think it comes from his inner character of always looking to learn from others. He's really good at turning everything into some kind of advantage for himself (without actually using people) which he hopes to turn back into an advantage for others. He has an ego, which comes out in the way he always wants to be better than others (ie: his competitiveness) but it's the kind that enables and encourages him, not the kind that holds him back (which is the kind of ego most people have because it makes us reject things instead of accepting them and turning them into an advantage). So he emits this sorta inner radiance and positivity (even when held thinking negative thoughts) that just draws others to him, I guess. Kinda like a fountain of youth that you can draw energy and vitality from, lol.
  20. I'm not sure if that applies to hanyu because he directs his disappointment and saltiness inwards ie: he blames himself for being shitty, not the world or circumstances surrounding him. But he does have a competitive streak a gazillion miles wide that may get a bit tiresome for some if he doesn't keep it reined in (like not everything is a competition dude so chill already).
  21. Yeah that's when I really saw people start to sexually objectify him . Gotta love how unapologetic he is about it though. If you've got the goods, flaunt it and all that. Whoa. So glad I'm not alone in this. To me, he's a bloodthirsty apex predator hiding behind a sweet-faced visage, which is the scariest kind of beast/monster there is. Whenever he does that smile of his that makes the world go "Aww!", I can't help but go all suspicious and think, "I'm wise to you. You can't fool me with that anymore. Nuh-uh. Don't think I'm buying what you're selling cos you pulled the wool over my eyes. I'm buying it still in spades but I've got my eyes wide open." His is more of the slick sort but not in the smarmy or sleazy way. Like a more refined sort, I think. But yeah, don't think rugged will ever become him. Not right now anyway. If it does, it's going to have to be when he's much older where he'll maybe develop a Clooney-ish sort of rugged/rakish charm. I can sort of see that, I think.
  22. he looks and seems like a good guy/boy next door most of the time but if you're wondering if he can pull off the sexy villain/bad boy/billiard player/bartender look, I guess you can wonder no more. If the ladies are doing bond girls, he should really consider doing a bond villain someday. (He can also pull off fierce scary demon banisher like whoa. He's even fiercer now, like when we saw him at CoR.) I mean, I've always known he's versatile but it's pretty amazing exactly how much when you really think about it.
  23. It's really unfair how Hanyu copies stuff and then manages to nonchalantly outdo the original in both design and how he looks in them. He even outdid Prince, which I thought could never be outdone. If he ever sets his sight on world domination outside of simply fs... ...well can't say I'd resist. He'd make a better ruler than most of the monkeys in power these days. I did think the design was weird at first, though I always liked the vest bit, I thought the pants were too high...until he sold me the program (LGC wasn't really a fave of mine from Prince, though I like his other stuff) and I finally saw. It's still due largely in part to how his physique is shaped though. He's got an upper torso that has a very defined v-shape to it which I definitely think helped him pull off even stuff like this. The vest tapering off at the waist was definitely an ingenious touch that accentuates his waistline and gives the costume a 2-piece feel instead of a 1-piece one.
  24. Out of all the Japanese ladies with the highest potential currently of making it into the Oly team, Miyahara's style is of course the most developed and mature but then the next one whose style I find most mature is Higuchi, who's like the second youngest of this bunch. Pretty ironic, huh? She also looks older than her age. Mihara's has a fresh feel to it that, at 18, I'm beginning to think if that's just who she is. Sakamoto's isn't so much as immature as it is rough around the edges so when she develops and polishes it a bit more, I think we'll see something very nice from her, especially since out of the five, her jumps are likely the most clean, precise and solid, judging from what I've seen of them at SA. I haven't seen enough of Honda to comment much of anything (cos her programs make me zone out halfway) so I'll reserve judgment until later. Probably. If her future programs can hook my attention for their entire duration.
  25. Lol. This just drives home the fact that the last of the medals that signify Hanyu's 4-year reign is basically a giant yellow plastic badge, or a giant casino chip. The stars they awarded at IdF this year were at least unique. Well, Uno, at least, will have a good chance of getting a medal of a quality that eclipses the one he got last year. Hanyu will have to live with his for a bit longer. Hopefully a shiny gold or two or three later in the next few months will help dampen the salt a bit. The sugary sweetness of a gold-plated Choco Pie, would be the most effective in covering it up, methinks.
