  1. *tries to look really really hard to see the jumps* Guys, I don't see them. Are they special or something, like you have to be able to do them in order to see them?
  2. On the other hand, he at least has a round doughnut spin. Watching junior men's, I dreaded how many flat doughnuts we had. I'm not sure what's the properly name for that spin, but it's not pretty, and most are not even folded over enough to sell it. What should we call it? Crepe spin? Eclaire spin? It has to be a flat type of sweet thing to go with the doughnut theme. Also, check out Yuzu's broken leg spin, the position is pretty low and he sticks his leg out straight.
  3. Probably a bit of that-most men tend to lose their bielmann's spin over time. He has been losing it slower than the other men. I forgot where, but someone said that you can watch whether or not he does the bielmann spin to tell if he plans to Yolo, since it takes a lot of energy to do it well. Bielmann's spin (and spirals) are not just about flexibility, there's a LOT of thigh/butt/leg/upper back strength involved. I tried to hold that position once with friends helping me push my leg up so I could grab it-honestly, flexibility was the last thing I worried about. It was just so taxing to hold my leg in place, my glutes, thighs and upper back were screaming.
  4. I've been checking my salchow jumps tracings and think I need to work on them a bit... for some reason, the tracing on the exit edge makes me suspect a bit of UR. Was thinking I might not be holding my entry edge straight enough.
  5. Actually, one day compare Yuzu's back sit spins to the back sit spins of other men. His are a bit lower, a lot of other men sit higher than 90 degrees on their back sit spin.
  6. Timeline wise, you are correct. He is still healing, and his schedule for 18/19 will depend on how he heals and how fast. So I guess for now, all speculations about his competing schedule next season is just speculation. =) It's probably confusing because people in the main thread are talking about his ice shows, where he will be an MC of sorts in the Continue with Wings show (April 2018), and probably the Sendai Parade (April 22 it seems?).
  7. If you are thinking of committing for real, go to a good pro shop. Check around and ask the coaches/teachers at the group lessons which shop is okay, and if they have any brands they recommend? Then I would still recommend that you go and visit a shop and try out different brands and see which you prefer. Supposedly Risports are more narrow than Jacksons, but I find Jacksons a bit low for me in the front (pressing down on my toe a lot), but Risports fit perfectly on the ball of me feet. But anyways, on the topic of shoes, which boots fit depends a lot on how much support you need-this is dependent on which level you skate at, and your weight. Blades is much more level dependent I think ( you don't need to get fancy pattern 99's at beginner level, a nice pair of beginner blades to start, and then mid level blades at 1 foot spin time should take you up to axels). How many hours you skate per week, and how fast you progress up, determines how long a pair of skates or boots last. My current pair (Risport RF3s+Coronation Ace) are about 7 months old, and I haven't skated them out yet. =) Granted, I do less than 10 hours a week.
  8. Quite a bit of japanese kanji has different meaning from their counterpart in modern Chinese. Sometimes reading japanese kanji it works, but often enough it's a bit like comparing modern english with middle/high english from Chaucer. It might mean he's good at ancient texts, so the boy can probably kick my butt at translating Confucian quotes into something understandable.
  9. Yep, if you skate 2-3 times a week, it pays itself really fast. And sometimes they have discount sales, so I got mine last time when it was about 30% off. Win-win.
  10. I skate at a commercial rink here and instead just by year long membership. It's about 600-700 USD for an entire year, you can use anytime it's public ice time (because the ice is rented out to hockey teams about a third of the time), and on public sessions and even private lessons, you have to share rink with public skaters and about a third of the ice is walled off for hockey lessons. Otherwise it's about 10 USD for 2 hours.... Only time to get empty ice here is lunch time Mon-Fri. But the ice is usually bad since it's right after hockey practice, and they haven't cleaned the ice yet (no cleaning until 2:30 pm).
  11. Okay, found one that a rinkmate talked about: Note, her final score in the FS was 141.3, and essentially beat Chen Hongyi, the skater who is represented China at the JWC.
  12. Hi Xeyra, aren't spins GOE values factorized by 0.5, unless I'm missing something? And steps are factorized at 0.7 of the GOEs?
  13. Well I've tested this around with a hypo layout. It's a bit...scary. Full explanation of what was done: - 7 jumping passes in 4 minutes, 4 in second half - Assuming that GOE is tied to percent of BV, in which case each +1 GOE=10% of BV - no reduction in spin or stsq requirements Jumps BV GOE (perfect) Final 4Lo 12 6 18 4T 10.3 5.15 15.45 3F 5.3 1.86 7.16 4S3T (x) 16.28 8.14 24.42 4T1Lo3S (x) 16.72 8.36 25.08 3A2T (x) 10.78 5.39 16.17 3A (x) 9.35 4.68 14.03 FCCoSP4 3.5 0.88 4.38 CCSp4 3.2 0.8 4 CCoSp4 3.5 0.88 4.38 StSq4 3.9 1.37 5.27 ChSq1 2.0 0.7 2.7 Subtotal 96.83 44.19 141.02 Which is a bit ridiculously high. And if you check, due to the factorization, spins and steps take on even less significance, and normal triple jumps such as 3F have a final value that is less than under the old system (old system of straight up GOE is 7.4). If I increase with each GOE as 5% of the BV, the difference still exists, only even more drastic between jumps, spins and steps, but the final subtotal is a bit better (118.92). If I did a straight +5 GOE with no percent tie to BV, the total perfect TES goes even more ridiculous at 151.4, but the percent weight of each type of element won't change (still 80% due to jumps, 20% due to other elements). So I also fiddled around, and I think the closest I've gotten to something keeping the balance was one, where triples up to 3A do not receive any BV reduction, all quads receive a 10% reduction, and GOEs for spins and Step Sequences are straight+GOEs with no ties to BV. In this scenario, I got a total perfect TES of 144.12 with the above layout. However, spins and steqs were about 21% of total TES worth, and jumps accounted for 79% of total TES. In this case though, the 3A in second half is extremely significant, as a 3A2T in second half with perfect +5 GOE (tied to base of BV) ended at 16.17 points, and a 3A second half solo jump with perfect GOE was 14.03-worth more than a solo 4T in first half. This is the closest I've gotten to using base BV % for GOE without having jumps weighing too much. If I tie the %BV for GOE and factor it as just 5% per GOE, then the subtotal is125.47 and jumps only account for 76% of the TES. Still, in both scenarios, 4T gets kind of shafted, and 3A rises in significance. All other triple jumps suffer due to the 0.7 factorization on top. So...congrats ISU, I'm not sure how your rules will work to decrease the emphasis on quads. But regardless, in all scenarios, the quad powers win. Though the third alt I have does give 3A guys and spins/jumps guys a chance?
  14. Bringing us back onto the topic of FS, instead of the psychology of fans (which I don't get at times), I want to bring up the axel jump. In light of what was mentioned. I was playing around with fisk8 app and found a potential 7 jump layout. If this is valid, technically, you can do without a 3A provided you have a stamina, in a 7 jumps setup. While I don't think it's realistic since most skaters don't have a5 types of quad jumps, given BV differences, guys might seriously aim for it (so many have issues with 3A). If the judges and ISU want and demand variety, and still think the 3A is a valid, difficult, separation of the men from the boys type of jump, then they do need to amend the rules a bit. Either that an axel must be performed in the long, or only 1 quad type jump can be repeated in combo etc. Or if they decide to do a BV cut, do not touch the 3A. Putting under spoiler so no heart attacks unless you want it. I think honestly, if we want judges to justify their GOEs or even monitor and teach GOEs, is to list out all the bullets and have judges press the bullet points they think apply. Let the computer do the calculations. And then we have more knowledge of where judges may be differing and they would need to justify why. I am also thinking of those standout -3's and +3's etc during the Olys, and wondering if there is a way to flag them so the judges can get a second look at their scores? A -3 really stands out when the skater doesn't have a fall or any other clear reason for a -3 (steps for example in SP). @LadyLou: I was rewatching Tarakanova again, and think she might have the best axel in Eteri's group. She had pretty good lift on a 2A that had nearly no speed into it at JGPF. Unless my perception is really off? We're possibly looking at the one Eteri Girl who could try a 3A since they're all on that quad/3A craze?
  15. off topic, but sorry @xeyra, I mentioned them, saw them in the full twitter context of fanwars before coming here.
  16. I'm waiting for the day some anti says his loop technique isn't proper, or his toe tap on the toe loop is messy...seriously, he's got one of the best jump techniques in men's figure skating right now. He's got one of the deeper curves for the salchow takeoff, just that he's so darn fast about it. Where's the popcorn?
  17. I think a better title is Founder and Aide TM to PM Pooh. Bet it will be white, but a different pattern. So it shall be known as The Other Great White ShirtTM
  18. I was thinking a special session where little kids can skate with the skaters, for like ten mins. Would be awesome and jsf future secured.
  19. I'm eyeing all the boyang fans who haven't posted in a while....
  20. *hyperventalates* *takes a deep breathe* *Goes and checks anyone who has liked anything posted here and start counting who has done nothing but like posts* we will find you lurkerAntenna....
  21. More importantly, we get commentator/talk show host Zu. The antics might be more than normal
  22. Well, we did say something about suspecting he lurks... maybe if not personally, his antenna beams just lurk everywhere. Kind of like: Yuzu: *closes eyes, puts fingers to side of head* Let's see what is the interwebs saying now.... Yuzu: *hair strands start standing up into antenna formation* Let's see...pride at my medal, naturally...hmm, some anger at antis, oh....jokes about the purple pants and me doing POTO 2.0, nah why are they thinking that? ....oh, some suggestions that I act as a commentator for ice shows.... Yuzu: *opens eyes, hair antennas flatten* Not a bad idea...I fulfill both obligations to sponsors and fulfill the wishes of fans in one move... *If he does lurk, I wonder if I'm mostly known as the weirdo who makes too many jokes at his expense*
  23. Han Yan will be missed. I hope that he would look into coaching at some point, or study choreography. Zhao said that right now China doesn't have the people for it, but Han Yan has wonderful artistry and SS, I hope he would consider it so we don't always need to worry about communication or language barriers. Now China only has Jin Boyang... Go Spidey
  24. Love google translate. When I used google translate on the webpage of the show, google made his name Hanyu Yasunori. Under information, it seriously translated it as:
