Remember Mikhail and Nathan can't meet in the same GP event so they can't both do CoC. Unless you meant some other place for Mikhail.

The interesting thing here is that Yuzuru, Evgenia (and Sui/Han in pairs) will be able to be assigned to compete against basically anyone, because they're not seeded from the Top 12 at Worlds. We may be seeing a few head to heads early in the season, like it happened last season. Also, with the top 3 being given first choice most time, unless it interferes with a host's pick, I wonder what Nathan, Shoma and Mikhail will choose and what of their choices will be met. Nathan will obviously have SA and Mikhail CoR. Will Shoma finally get NHK? And if yes, will JSF allow Yuzuru there as well? Strategically it doesn't seem smart but this is the Fed that sent 3 of their top ladies to CoC to fight each other off a GPF spot. Or will they prefer Yuzuru at NHK (since he hasn't done a competition in ages in Japan) and have Shoma choose other two assignments?

World Standings for purposes of GP assignments for the 2018/2019 season need to be estimated as of July 1st (beginning of next season) since the current World Standings won't be the ones used for GP purposes. I'm copying in here some data from the peeps at GS: Top 12 at Worlds, guaranteed 2 spots Season's Best, guaranteed 1 spot Estimated World Standings beginning July 1st There are 72 spots for men (and ladies?) on the GP. Once the top 12 at Worlds all have their two assignments (24), that leaves 48 spots to be handed out. The top 12 from Worlds will likely be in the Top 24 Season's Best, so they already have their assignments, leaving a bunch more for all the skaters only guaranteed 1 spot.

Yeah, the info coming out seems to be specific for Ice Dance. I think the rules will just make certain dance teams move even farther apart in scoring from others, but we'll see. The GOE rules for singles, though, will have to have some differences, if they're going to use +2 as a baseline of a good height landed jump, otherwise I've no idea how they'll work around differentiating jumps. Though I guess this new scoring system might be less about differentiating the good from the outstanding, but just making it harder for anyone to separate themselves from the pack and getting those max scores often.

Wait, they keep asking him? Or was this that statement he made a while ago after Yuzu won Olys?
-
*sigh* Even though I think this is just Raf trolling (or trying to 'scare' the competition), at this point I guess that's all Nathan has left to do jump-wise. Though I feel like he'd have better luck with a -4T combo.

Yeah. Basically he was sort of tricked by media into having to say if he might compete at Beijing because it's not enough for people that he got two gold medals, he must now get 3!!!!!! *rolling my eyes to the heavens* So he went noncommital, saying maybe or if he does, he'll go to win.

There's nothing to worry about. Brian likely means he's just not certain when Yuzuru will be back in Toronto to train, and if it's in time for A or B competitions, that's it.

How many Yuzuru mentions/articles is the Olympic channel/twitter going to make and write before the season's over?
-
Or.... 4Lz 4Lo 3F // 4S3T 4TLo3S 3A3T 3A if one wants to keep the two 3As.

I noticed that too.

This is my favorite meme of them all. Edit: @SparkleSalad, we're twins in thought.

BTW, I have now realized Yuzu broke all superstitions about wearing gold at the Olympics. He had it everywhere, from costumes to floofy blade covers, and still no jinx hit him for it. He also broke the no men's World Champion wins the Olympics and the no repeat Champion curse. Maybe the Seimei and numberology things were too stronk for any other jinxes.

Happens to me too sometimes.

Probably not. The spot just isn't taken, I guess.

Because your name isn't taken off the submitted list if you WD, you just get bumped down to Substitute. Same with Zhenya or the Shibs.

I expect it was the VR camera.

If a high, wide, fully-rotated and landed on one foot jump is in itself to be marked as +2... what will happen to the 0 and +1 GOE and how much will one need to do to earn +3-+5? They're basically moving the ballpark to +2 instead of 0... so +2 will be a normal jump? Will +3 to +5 require creative entry/exit/steps/rippon/etc?

I can see the spot where he'll start to bald.

He'd get 1200 instead of 1080, yes, and it would add 1200-1080=120 points to his ranking, so still below Yuzu. But with the new season, starting July 1st, World standings will be reset and points from the 2015/2016 season will be lost, points from the 2016/2017 season will be at 70% and everyone will start at 0 points for the 2018/2019 season. As such WS will shift and Yuzu will drop in his ranking to 3rd or so. Missing GP season hurts quite a bit for the standings.
-
Exactly. Each placement gets you certain points. Worlds and Olympics have different points than 4CC/Euros (a 1st place in the latter is only 840 compared to the 1200 of the first). However, a fourth place at Worlds would net more points than a 1st at 4CC, for example, so those would be the points added to a skaters ranking under Championships, since the highest points of the season are added to the ranking. However the math of the ranking is not as straightforward since it eliminates lowest points in each category, which is why someone winning a certain amount of points doesn't always translate into having all those points added to their total.
