Everybody in the Oly season playing safe ... look at the other chinese skaters choices... warhorses and more warhorses...

I do like Zijun's choice of East of Eden though, even if the music has been used often :) Also, I think Sui/ Han might pull of a very touching performance to Halleluhja, so I'm reserving my judgement on this one ;)

Xiangning Li doesn't skate to a warhorse neither ;) I think the problem with Boyangs sp choice is not that it's a safe choice (it's not actually), but that it's probably the bad compromise between people telling him to get a new program and ditch the Spiderman SP and people seing only the asian skater in him. Him skating to Crouching tiger is just like him skating to La Strada. I think he can perform it very well, but it's just such an old-fashioned choice, and while La Strada is at least widely known and established in skating, crouching tiger is not. None of young Chinese boys or men watch crouching tiger and think it's cool. And let's be honest, part of his PCS stem from him being the showman, exciting the audience, and people recognizing and identifying him with his Spiderman moves.

Yeah I agree with you that it's a bit old-fashioned (though tbh I'm just happy to see Asian music being represented more, despite it being the most culturally cliche thing possible...I'd rather that than European warhorses especially for Asian skaters). I do wish he kept Spiderman because the fun, playful vibe of the song totally matches his weird-ass goofy personality (in the best possible way). I can't help but wonder if the Chinese Fed/coaches really pushed him hard for the song. They can be so traditionalist and probably wouldn't have approved him ~representing China at the Olympics so frivolously~ with Spiderman you know?

That being said, I won't count him out on PCS if he can really channel the energy/vibe of the wuxia moves in his choreo/SS. It'd be cool if Boyang could do something with that :snonegai:
