He did the 'skating while injured to preserve places' in 2013 and got the three places for the Olympics enabling Machida and Takahashi to go ( much good it did them) and I didn't get the impression that anyone was especially appreciative of the effort. He's not 18 any more, it's not a pre Olympic season, Uno can step up to the plate and will and if they want to go, so can Tanaka and Mura. I don't want to see him injure himself further for places that won't actually lead to anything for that third participant if history is anything to go by. Keiji and Mura are capable of placing higher up, it's just an issue of skating cleaner. Keiji skated better at 4CC, especially as Shoma is perfectly capable of getting the gold if he goes clean. WinForPooh
Posting here from gen chat: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2018/03/01/figure-skating/can-japans-women-skaters-catch-russians/#.WpfnXZqgfIW Quote “Satoko’s performance skills are of the highest level,” the coach added. “You are talking about such small differences.” While some may be concerned about Japan’s female skaters catching up to the Russians, the coach isn’t one of them. “The Japanese are not quite as powerful as the Russians, as commanding on the ice,” the coach stated. “But the Japanese are such beautiful skaters. “I believe the Japanese women have the best yet to come. In the next four years, they will emerge stronger than they have been in the last two years or so.” *screams into void about PCS yet again* What is that trite saying about insanity being defined as doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result? golden
i dont really understand how the japanese ladies aren't as commanding? what are wakaba's programs if not attention catching, commanding, dynamic? flimsy justifications, they'd be equal or even better in most cases if judges marked according to the handbook. I would actually kind of agree with the coach towards the end- Japanese ladies may have the best years to come. For a reason- many of their ladies are probably closer to being through puberty and done with the growth spurts. And many of them have actually only improved their jump quality recently, such as Rika's 3A, so most of what we currently see are things they might be able to maintain longer. I'm not sure if the Russian ladies can sustain their quads, think there was a russian blog that actually measured the jump height and rotation speed of junior ladies jumps. In that one I think the russian ladies had very fast in air rotation speed, on average faster than the japanese counterparts, but the japanese ladies had a lot of total height distributed through their jumps. In that sense, the japanese ladies depend less on rotation speed, which is something that will decrease as you grow older and larger.

I’m really only following ladies for Wakaba. There are a lot of talented skaters, artistically and technically, but none grab me like Waka does. Dynamic is the word for her. I hope she stays for a long time. Her future is so bright, judging be damned. 1 hour ago, kaeryth said: Kaori!!! (hope someone uploads the video... huhuhuhu...) Can Kaori just be on TV 24/7, please?
