I don't think any info about Boyang is more than speculation, since the coaching team seem determined to not to disclose their strategy. Though there was that open practice comp thing, they pointedly asked fans who attended to not to discuss the layout or music online. Even sp music was out only because at first they didn't ask soon enough. (What's the point of keeping music choice a secret though? )

I think JP TV just decided to speculate without any basis about Boyang's plans, due to Nathan saying he's doing 6 quads, which is no surprise at all considering he was already planning to do so (and did do so, though he fell on two) at Worlds. So JP media is just trigger happy for quads.

I think I might see beyond their choice to speculate Nathan+Boyang (NOT Japanese) = the crazy quadsters and Yuzuru+Shoma (Japanese) = All-round skaters and not crazy bc 5 quads instead of 6 - LOL.

As far as I know Boyang has said that he'll maybe add one  quad, which would make it five. I Never heard him or his team speaking of 6 quads and I follow Boyang pretty closely

Yes, it's what I saw as well, so was curious. Thank you everyone for the replies.

Well 5 makes sense for him and he should be more than capable of landing them. Along with his other general improvements, he'll be a force again this season.

Kudos to those fans though, it must be hard to keep an arena full of spectators quiet.

Is this Shoma's "4lz" https://livebarn.com/videoshare?locale=en_ca&vid=3 ?H5d2N4Bz0SBgikU1NXi7aRjZhvTc_2Fhxl34fxJ2VJJaCPitv6vsNliVOkYp_2FWRYfHW7Y_2F12Kh9GNqBJuVRhuimb_2FERASbBhOGaMVC475aQamOzBg16kQIKk_2B_2B_2Fa4632u3lm1C5rMWjtr9h_2FKM44qVymlwg_2B9BOsX&dt=2017-08-14T13%3A29&t=1488072.109728&d=30000

It's a FLUTZ clear as daylight. And I am not talking about the pre-rotation yet. The edge is so clear a flutz.

Do you think USFA and other specialists will let the cheated edge go when they have Nathan and Boyang who jump true quad Lutz out there? I laugh a bit at people who think you can fix a Flutz in a summer.

The video is on youtube here:

It is clear a  Flutz and UR... look at the hook in the landing

I am glad you miss me. But I just can not stand people who have no clue about skating who go around counting BV and think that fake technique can be fixed in a summer. Now we have clear evidence of how much it can be "fixed". I will just ran away.

Oh wow....

I can't understand why did he wants to add 4Lz when his lutz is still a flutz. Doesn't he try to fix it?

And oh gosh... the pre-rotation..

...maybe it's the angle, but why does the leg wrap and unwrap look funny to me?

...His timing is off, really off, that's not the optimal way to do a lutz. If I didn't watch the whole video , you could have fooled me into thinking that was a flip. The entry looks identical to his flip.

Well, I hope he thinks more for Beijing and just waits on his 4Lz, he's just rushing...At this rate, nevermind Yuzu, he might get surpassed by Boyang and Nate. PCS is something that can be grown into, but jump technique is another beast.

BTW, not sure if this is okay here, but I found a good ref for a lutz jump primer- Tom Z demonstrating the take off for lutz jumps:

Shoma has a lot of work to do. I don't think he's planning on adding the 4lz immediately. If he jumps with that clear of a wrong edge and UR in competition then yeah it should be and likely will be called and the points he's get for it would not be worth the effort. He's only training it now. He can't magically fix it over one off season but he can make some progress on it at least.

He has problems with him jump technique. He's not the only one. I do wish the judges would maybe be a touch harsher so there was more incentive to fix those technique issues, or at least so a good triple was worth more than a wanky quad attempt but it's not like the judges have all the resources and time fans do when they are making calls. They can't comb through hq slow-mos of every jump multiple times to find every error and I guess Shoma's been passable more than he has been obviously UR.

Apparently I assure you, some flawed jumps with PR and UR can be obvious in real time if you are sitting in the ice level which the tech specialists have always been... and the hook mark on the ice is very obvious.

Enough for now, I gotta run...
