[2017] GP Rostelecom Cup - Men Free Skating

It's funny how Hanyu just got silver and almost everyone is happy sunshine  .....but here's the same

I feel this performance had so many good points already.

First 4Lz - without major error on landing even, pop to triple, Biellmann spin, the point average,..... while still leaving much room to improve and perfect in the future.

Also did not see too many judjing !!??s, so quite happy with the podium.

Sure makes me wonder how those who kept squealing and squeeing over how cute and utterly adorable he was in Sochi will react when they see this...thing...on the ice in PC.

Well, it's been 4 years since ... the cute kid from Sochi is this powerful, amazing young man ... so they must handle it ... lol

I'm actually super happy  Because me being superstitious, I just want the 2 silvers to be done with  AND HE LANDED BB LUTZ

Now I'll be super worried if NHK goes wrong :tumblr_inline_n18qr5AMus1qid2nw:

I think everyone is happy because Yuzu is happy. He was smiling and joking and that reaction from Brian after he finished the free was also quite reassuring. It was a clear indication that they had a plan they were following and that it worked.

Sure it would have great if he had won, but winning is not everything and Yuzu has many battles to fight other than the competition itself. So all in all it was good showing and good result

Talking abt NHK ... I wonder if he's going back to Canada now and then, in 3 weeks goes to NHK or is he going directly to Japan and trains alone until NHK ....

So...basically, "Kid grew up like WHOA!"?

But the Pooh stays though..I mean I imagine there's gonna be a bunch of them thrown on the ice so it'd be kinda...difficult to reconcile it with...the thing.

But Yuzu got closer with Brian and Tracy so I'm hoping he'll train in Canada... I'll be worried if he trains alone..

That! And he is too focused on his Oly season  to stay 3 weeks without his coaches in this moment...

I am one of those who thought he was cute and adorable then and I STILL think he is most of the time (hence my avatar that I love).  He hasn't visibly aged that much and most of the time he is just a cute cinnamon roll.  But his body is definitely more muscular and matured. I was actually noticing even more how impressively defined his thighs are now. You could crack a walnut with those things. And then when he puts on the murder face...yeah, I get it

Oh yeah, and here's my...twenty bucks about today's men's event. Sorry to those who thought they might've been spared my spiel this one time:

Definitely the best outcome for Hanyu in this early season, and a natural upward trajectory outcome from ACI. He's not putting out jaw-dropping performances here and winning just yet, which would likely cause people to get anxious about whether or not he can keep it up all season long. But he's also doing pretty strongly for a season starter with plenty of success where it truly matters- 1) debuted new quad in comp 2) hung on well enough throughout to score decently and 3) did more than simply remind but reinforced the absolute stunning majesty that is SEIMEI, teasing us with its potential and getting us all on board and hungering for it to be perfect at the Olys, because a perfect, or at least near-perfect, version of *that* will absolutely rock the world and change people's perception of men's  FS  once and for all. He also did good enough for the judges to find it worth remaining on his side, scoring-wise. Okay, I guess being the reigning world champ helps as well.

All in all,  he's not overly pressurized by topping super high scores the rest of the season nor does he have to be crestfallen by rock bottom ones, and can concentrate on the pressures that *truly* matter (gradually building and growing his programs and increasing his average to reach their max potential, which from the look of things won't be as arduous a road as past seasons--thanks to his programs being what they are).

Only slightly worrying point is his 4Lo not working out (turned into a frozen popsicle in his FS even). Hopefully, that doesn't become a thing.

And I have never seen a bigger creature of habit than this guy. Let's hope winning at the Ollies is one of his many unbreakable habits.

Also, here's a well-deserved shout-out and hats-off to Chen and his good outcome, as well. He flubbed the last time around when he went into competition as the only skater who overcame Hanyu that's actually younger than Hanyu. He gets another chance to strengthen his resolve as someone who recently finished ahead of Hanyu and do good the next time the two clash again, hopefully at the GPF. Would be really good to see his growth then. (: I really hope he keeps up his pattern of skating clean because I think it serves to drive Hanyu into doing the same. The more consistent clean skates by all the challengers around him this season, the better.

Back to Chen, not being a fan of his FS but a huge one of his SP,  I dunno,  I really like the guy's skating--outside of comps when he doesn't have to worry about his quads. I'm okay with his SP in comp, though a lot of the finer details got axed, like I expected they'd be. His showing of his SP at the JO gala was really, really nice. The kid can really skate. Maybe it's a matter of taste. When the guy can simply freely skate, I find that his skating is up my alley. Not quite the special bullseye spot that shall be occupied by Hanyu now and forever more but it's in the same alley, just somewhere further down it.

So I find myself rooting for him the most out of all the younger guys. Jin has nice jumps but jumps aside, I'm not sure if his skating is really my cup of tea. Uno, issues aside, is really just not my cup of tea. At all. If anything, his style and skating are more like coffee to me, which, while I admit has great aroma, is something I simply don't drink because I don't like the taste. If his issues weren't what they are, I might have felt more benevolent about him, since style is subjective, but as it is, I just find it hard to root for him above anyone else.

All said, as a fan and supporter,  I find the results of CoR17 highly satisfactory and encouraging. It's sort of triumphant, even. ^__^ Looking forward to see how Hanyu continues to fine-tune and build on his progs come NHK. It'd be good to see him stabilize more of his quads and have room to pay a bit more attention to the finer details. But neither of them have to be smashing records again just yet. They just only need to inch closer to it. Maybe a 10-15ish point increase to his overall scores?
