@Xen Omg sorry I think I should have published the videos not as stories but regular videos, but oh well. Beside from my big face, I shared an ever so smol basic spin and some balance exercise.

Yesterday I actually felt my back was a little better, but as you can see in the balance I am totally rigid in my upper body LOL. Balance is so hard!

I fought for like one whole hour together with my friend before my outside edge finally showed every so slightly. I easily do balance with inside edge, don't ask me how it's possible HAHAHA.

I am far from an authority in all matters posture but one thing I’ve learned is even if you bend your knees to a point that feels ridiculously low, you’re still not bending deep enough.

Your posture doesn’t look all that bad and you probably just need to bend your knees deeper for starters. That will come with feeling more comfortable on the ice, just give it some time!

LOL that's the thing with skating. You might feel you are regressing as much as you are improving :yznotimpressed: (but usually you are improving you just don't realize it!)

Today was a lot better and I’ll say it’s definitely because I tied my skates just right and not at all because I’ve skated the day before and not with like a week in between and I just need to get back into skating regularly nope not at all  :acceptable:

Hmm, not as bad as you think you're doing.

Only thing I'd suggest for your posture is don't look down. =) There were a couple places where you were not looking down at the ice it seems, and your outside edge was better. When you look down, it seems like you are stick your neck a bit out and down, which is probably making it harder to square your shoulders correctly for holding the outside edge.

Other than that...hmm, don't think so much about swinging your leg out. Instead try to hold your free leg slightly behind your skating foot heel, then pass it forward (gently), and not outwards and forwards.

Your spin looks really goodd! Are you a lefty? Or do you just like spinning clockwise? I remember when I first started spinning I liked spinning clockwise, but my coach told me to spin the other way. Which was smart because I think I'm clearly right-footed.

Yes, it's true, I do believe I'm still not very comfortable on ice and I have to let go to the feeling more and bend more. Every time I talk about doing these things I would like to go to the rink and practice lol xD

(Also today for the first time I saw what people are saying about Alina's broken back!)

Ah! They told me not to look down. I should really think about it when I skate. I will try to think about it more! It does make me more rigid in the upper body... it's hard to think about every part of your body when you are concentrating on your feet so much.

(What's your IG? Have I followed you? I followed a couple of people LOL)

I think I'm kind of a lefty! Because I also prefer jumping clockwise. But I'm practicing spinning in both directions just because. A la Mihayara. You never know what you might need xD

Also, I did my first three turn with my left foot. And my left forward crossovers are kinda better. Sooo I think there's a pattern xD

I don't know if the knees thing is that you have to bend it low. I bend mine, but definitely not that low, and can still gain speed. Instead of low, I would say your knees should be "bouncy" and springy, so it should be nimble to flex and bend/unbend depending on what you need to do. It's really an issue of stiffness.

Also, if it helps, you don't have to always hold your arms up very high. Just keep it at a height where you can balance, and have some degree of softness/flexibility, and you should be fine. As for looking down, since it seems inevitable that everyone will look down at some point. Don't look directly down, instead, if you have to look down, look a small distance away and downwards (like maybe a spot about a meter or half meter away). That way your alignment won't change as much and you'll get more used to holding your neck up a bit.

(I want to go back on the ice this week and skate!!!)

That sounds like a very useful description of how it should feel! And true, sometimes it's confusing because for some exercises the teacher actually told me not to bend the knees!

So I finally made an Instagram account. To celebrate, here's a crappy spread eagle because I suck at just about everything else :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

How did you work on straightening your legs? Or did it come natural to you? I try to do spread eagle but my knees are so bent I end up going into Besti territory xD

Yesterday I started doing some spirals! I'm glad because I got to show off some flexibility that I've been working on for more than a year now.  It's hard to keep the legs straight though.

Everything else is pretty much a disaster lol

I did it little by little, but I got lucky because I already had a ridiculous amount of turnout. Even when I started my legs were fairly straight. Of course, this is a double-edged sword, since I have to work very hard to keep my feet from turning out at the wrong times...

One of my friends at the rink is a guy with an even more ridiculous amount of turnout. He took a few ballet lessons and the instructor told him he had "just gave birth" hips :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

I think I understand you on turning out at the wrong times. Trying the spiral, I was opening my leg on the side instead of behind lol!

Aaaah, I should train today and do skme stretches... but the weather is horrible and I just feel lazy ughh!
