Well, what did your coach say?

If you have videos, maybe we could take a look, but I'd say go with what your coach is instructing.

She's a sweetheart, but she didn't tell me a lot for now (just that I'm almost folded in two xD). She definitely tells me multiple times to bend my ankles and knees more (yesterday one of the coaches asked me if I tied my boots too tightly on the akles, but no, I just didn't bend voluntarily!) Yeah, maybe I will send a video soon! Like an SOS for help, lol.

Wait, if you are folded in two, do you mean that you are kind of like a "<" sign on the ice? So to a degree, you're sticking your butt out backwards too much? In which case, you are bending at the waist and hips, but your knees are kind of not bending?

Hmm...would this help?

Yes, my butt likes to stick out, I can't help my bending forward especially when I try jumps (two footed). I do feel a kind of floppyness to my upper body. I wonder what I could do to assure that I am using my abs and I am as stable as a rectangle.

So you're leaning and stabilizing towards the front of your blades? Hmm, but for going forward usually you balance towards the middle of your blade, somewhere like between the ball of your foot and the arch of your foot. How to put it...it's a bit like getting up from a squat position, where your knees are kind of bent, but a bit bouncy, and you're almost completely straight and standing up. =/

Yes, I think it will take me some time to become aware of it and correct it every second... I think I am terrified of bad technique not going away because I've had similar issues with the violin (bad habits I could never correct) xP

Floppiness is my number 1 enemy in skating but I always attributed it to just being generally unfit :squishedPooh:

Mmmh maybe it's more like connecting your whole body... in my course there are women you wouldn't really consider fit, but they have waaay better posture than me!

My posture is still sh*t but ballet class definitely helped! I am remembering to mind my core and straighten my back more often and it might just become a habit one day. Especially plie exercises help alot. You bend your knees while being super conscious of your knees, core and back.

Also I am getting braver and falling more yayy

It would be a lot easier to help out if I shared ice rinks with you >_<

If the swelling is mostly gone and you're walking without pain you might be fine to skate by now, as long as you ease into it and don't do anything that puts too much stress on it. An orthopedist (and one of the coaches at the rink) told me that it's usually ok to skate before a sprain is completely healed because the boot is stiff enough to offer support. It's also good for the ankle to get exercise so it can regain strength and flexibility, otherwise it becomes stiff. I mean, I'd check with an orthopedist or physical therapist first, though, especially because you said you had a stress fracture or something like that iirc, right?

But I feel your pain, soft tissue injuries are so annoying :13877886:

Super annoying. And I've never had a sprained ankle, or any broken bones or major injuries before so I have no idea when I'm okay to do anything.

I'll probably go skate, currently my leg muscles are a bit weak due to lack of use for weeks. Skating might actually be easier than walking or running, since I just need to push once instead of requiring my legs to be constantly in motion. I was able to still do hydroblading, and spin the day when I sprain my ankle, so I think it should be fine if I do easier footwork. Spinning and jumping I'm actually not afraid of losing, it's actually footwork that I'm worried about losing.

@Xen Omg sorry I think I should have published the videos not as stories but regular videos, but oh well. Beside from my big face, I shared an ever so smol basic spin and some balance exercise.

Yesterday I actually felt my back was a little better, but as you can see in the balance I am totally rigid in my upper body LOL. Balance is so hard!

I fought for like one whole hour together with my friend before my outside edge finally showed every so slightly. I easily do balance with inside edge, don't ask me how it's possible HAHAHA.
