Skating on the Planet

Classes at our local rink are a joke lmao.

Ah, that is worrying... well, for now I can see the other ladies in the class doing jumps and skating pretty decently, so as far as I know my teachers are pretty good.

I just decided that by the end of the year, I want to learn at least the Waltz and the Toeloop, and to spin on one foot upright quite decently. I'm not sure I'll be able to, but well.

When I first saw videos of my crossovers I got depressed. Let‘s not compete over who hs the worst.

Instead of bending my knees and ankles, I am STOMPING while crossing over, doing high knees. Just. Just. :headdesk:

Dont worry about it yet! It can’t be worse than teaching yourself and it’s great that you‘re assisted from the beginning. I bet your coaches are decent.

Those seem to be pretty realistic goals! I bet your first waltz jump will happen sooner than you think.

I tried crossovers today because there was no one else on the ice. I'm always a bit scared to do crossovers when there are other people on the ice...but I have a cold and my stamina has been bad so I was out of breathe really quickly. If I'm feeling better tomorrow I'll try to film it. Lol being sick really saps your stamina, which I've never noticed bc before I started skating I'm really inactive most of the time anyway. lol.

Ah, on the subject of recording oneself, I recorded myself for the first time in a while yesterday. It's so depressing. :headdesk:

My waltz jump is tiny, and my crossovers are so slow. But one good thing is that my posture and form are pretty decent. Yay for my ex-ballerina coach and her obsession with posture.

I'm also learning the Salchow. But jumps freak me out so much. I understand the technique, and I knooooooow I can do it, but every time I freak myself out and can't get my feet off the ground. I tend to find a lot of stuff scary. It took me a while to get used to leaning to the side on outside edges, so for a while my outside edge looked like this: | :13877886: My coach keeps telling me: "Why are you so scared? Spread eagles are much harder, and you can do those just fine." But my brain keeps freaking me out... This sport is just as mental as it is physical...

I hope so, I am a jumping machine off-ice. The other day I put a big chair in the middle of the terrace and spent 10 minutes jumping across it for increasing leg power, making my mother get heart attacks :68556365: I am not afraid of falling.

But the spins... might require more effort cause of my posture xD

Ah, my mom is so glad I took up figure skating. My posture had always been awful until I started skating. I don't see my parents very often, since I live in another country, but last time I saw her she said, after seeing my posture: "I should get your coach flowers!" :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

Is your coach Eteri?

Once you guys get back crossovers...maybe you can try hydroblading. =D

I tried. It didn't work out.

(Determined to learn IB and SE tho. I have enough hip opening. I just have no idea what an edge is really!)

Well, she thinks Brian's training program is quite good (one of her skaters did a summer there and improved a lot) and likes his training philosophy, so I think, the answer to your question, is an emphatic "No." :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

Omg I really have to buy knee protection. I am doing holes in the ice with my bones.

Please get knee pads. They're pretty important especially when you start jumping. Depending on how you land, you might look into hip protection pads too when you start jumping?

I actually fell doing Balance, lol! But yeah I will definitely buy them before going back to practice.

Also, could you suggest how I can really really stop my back from going all the way forward? the back is straight, I'm not curved - but when I do pretty much everything on Ice I tend to go down with my back. Is it because I don't put enough weight on my knees/ankles?

Well, what did your coach say?

If you have videos, maybe we could take a look, but I'd say go with what your coach is instructing.
