[2017] Fantasy on Ice (FaOI) in MAKUHARI 2017

Featured Replies

I am sure I would feel offended if my people told me I don't sound like them.

well I don't sound like them, cause I am into stuffs they mostly never care about. And my way of talking and thinking isn't like them. But I am still the same as my people and I understand their attitude.

Thank you very much for pointing this out.

For the record, I happen to have been brought up multilingual and multicultural and I'm quite capable of expressing myself colloquially in whichever language I am speaking at the moment.

In a way i understand you. I'm not Japanese but i lived abroad for a long time, then i'm interested in lots of stuff my countrymates don't care about and most of times when i start talking, they don't understand me at all. So i keep it to myself and stand aside.

Yuzu's Interview FaOI!

Y: Although the choreography of this program is very different, I could put my emotions in it, and I feel the music in the same way I breathe.

Yes you do. And it was beautiful. :sad-smiley-046:

More news about day 3 show.

Thank you for those, morning programs aren't my fortune. ^^;

I feel a little bit bad for all the other performers at the show though, in all of the programs it sounded more like some single Yuzu thing... ^^; with the ice shows just mentioned as an afterthought... ^^;

In a way, it's huge pressure and expectation on Yuzuru as well.

Other skaters can get paid (well ice shows are for having fun and getting paid...) and move on without pressure. While Yuzuru has to become the headline.

I only remember this happened to Yuna and Mao. Now it's all on Yuzuru. Such pressure and expectation. But he is strong, he is used to it. He can get over it.

Yuna I never paid much attention to, not because of the supposed dislike of Koreans in Japan, but because I found it hard to deal with the fact that she by lots of reliable accounts was more a tool of her mother's by proxy want of fame - which no child should be! - than her own person, but I remember Mao very well. Those before her, as well. And it did happen to them.

And it's actually even more extreme for Yuzuru, because beyond ice skating, he is also things like "Touhoku's Hope," "Sendai's Pride," and lots of other similar things, in response to him doing the ice shows after the devastating earth quake to raise money for charity.

That he did this as an earth quake victim himself, while his home rink was destroyed and in shambles, makes him the living equivalent of all tragic hero tales of Japanese history and that he accepted that role and responsibility, without saying very much about it, makes him all the more the hero, for all of Japan.

I hope he has some kind of safety valve to release all the pressure he's under. I like to think he's smart enough to do it.

Headphones, video games, lol. Those are the things he talks about. I am sure there are others, but kept private.  For all we know he dances jazz at a dance club in Toronto, lol, where no one knows him :IrishDancingBanana: he can be totally anonymous!!

Yeah, the first part really sets the tone. He calmly stares down the judges while doing simple movements before heading off to start... classic and elegant.

If he's repeating programs, it's always good to have that association, at the start, to the previous one, even if the rest is changed in minor or major ways. Especially in his case, as Chopin is such a statement program so yes, I'm definitely in the camp of keeping the opening part, no matter what they end up doing after that.
