[2021] Japanese Nationals (22.12-26.12) - Men's FS

Featured Replies

is it just me or does the rest of the program (after the 4A) seem relatively easy for him :fingerscrossed:? honestly i'm happy with him just going for the 4A (IF he lands it, he'll beat Nathan's FS record or at least come close to it without any other changes, I'm sure). A 4A with + GOE would be at least +10 points from his current score (he got 4 and change for his 4A<<) along with probably a small PCS increase. Plus there's no reason that Nathan would get the exact same score he got at GPF. So IMO there's no reason to add 4Lz or even 4Lo back in there because those two jumps seem to require more effort from him and are less stable, and he wants the 4A anyway.

Adding the 3F and 3A3Lo would also be a huge increase so he wouldn't even really need to get +GOE on the 4A, even a 4A< is fine. But there's probably a reason why he doesn't do any flips or lutzes.

ETA: heck, the 3Lz instead of the 3F would be even more BV (+4.6 total in fact) and we all know he prefers the lutz more lol

Thank you everyone for the all the video sources and translation <3

I had to go out right after the victory ceremony so I couldn't follow all the interviews as they came out.

:tumblr_m7etfqA8wS1qb1380: for Yuzu for the *behind the scenes* he revealed, we really don't get but a glimpse of all the hardships and heartbreaks he goes through, but I'm so damn proud and happy that he got this victory, with these two  skates (and considering his words about never having a clean sp RT abd 4A attempts without hard falls only recently, these skates were probably way beyond his own expectations, let alone ours)

4A might have been a DG here, but now I hope he can work on it with more serenity and confidence, after having tried it in the most stressful conditions, after injury and such a long period off ice.

Yuzuru really is a miracle boy, a Phoenix rising from its ashes. It's painful that unfortunate circumstances (and terrible people, too) have so often forced him to do the impossible - so unfair!-, so I hope that he's already gotten his share of pain for this season and that he'll be able to grasp much happiness from now on.

Still can't fully grasp the magnitude of what he did - just how strong his heart and mind are, to go there in Saitama with so many burdens from the recent and not so recent past, and do what he did. I'll need to rewatch properly when emotions are settled, so I can properly give this Tenchi justice.

The panel's selective calls pissed me off, but that's not new. I'm just grateful that, by his own strength, Yuzuru could rise above everything and show once more to everyone- and hopefully to himself too - why he us unique and irreplaceable.

Yuzu aside, I'm very happy for Kao, he's improving and in this comp he showed that his is more than mere *potential*.

Sad for Shun tho :/ being sent to JWC feels a bit like a punishment to me, even if it will certainly help getting more spots for jpn jr men... especially since he got no other major sr assignment. Such a pity, he has been showing improvements too and he has a set of good programs this season.

I can only hope that JSF will not be for him and Kao and additional burden holding them back (as it'sbeen till now). I really wish both of them can be strong in the following quadriennium and become real contenders for 2026 (tho there's the whole program change after this season, on top of the uncertainties of the sport)

I don't really remember much else of the comp, I was just too nervous waiting for Yuzuru, I'm so GLAD he survived this comp and Nessie attempts in one piece (hopefully)🥺

My dream layout for him would be to change the 3A2T to 3A3Lo* But that would require changing the solo 3Lo into a quad** which,,, considering its place in the program, which is approximately 2s after the 3A combo,,, it’s too hard. Zu would have to adjust the layout quite a bit if he wants to upgrade any of the jumps he has atm. The pain of having an intricately choreographed program.

*changing to 3A2Lo is possible too, I guess, but BV isn’t that much of a difference, is it?

** this is of course taking into account he is not doing F and Lz, probably bcz of the ankle. And the quad can only be 4Lo or 4S, but for Sal, he would need to jump 4Lo as his 2nd jump instead.

I’m giving myself a headache.

oh my god i'm crying i love him sm

In my wildest dreams he would do 4Lo combo. As I said before no Lutz, not now.

Without 4A:

4T

4S3T

4T1E3A

4S

And if he will jump 4A he should jump 4A, 4T3T, 4T1E3A, 4S

I dont know anymore.

Re: jump layout, I think he did 3F in the 24h TV Hana ni Nare, is that right?  So that was in July.  It is possible that his most recent injury prevented him from doing it at JNats or maybe he can still do it now.  He still has a bit over a month till Oly too.  Also, it could also be that he hasn’t really considered upping BV (except for 4A) given he only decided to go for Oly the day before JNats (lol, just GOAT things!). So maybe he will think about it now.  He also said that jump-wise this is definitely not the most difficult he can do.  Selfishly I really want to see his 4Lo and 4Lz again since they are the most beautiful ones in the world.  (And I need more  3A-3Lo footage!).  I wonder how his 4F is coming along.  OK I guess I am being greedy at this point!

I think 4Lz and 4A is too much. But hey, 3F is doable I hope!!!! I just really wanna see that 3A-3Lo. would be a first, wouldn't it?

Couldn't he do the 3a-3loop and then those little steps into a 3F instead of the 3loop? That is possible, right? I always feel like just the 2T after the 3A is just too easy and he could maximize that sequence, now that we know he can do the 3A3L combo.

I think he didn't do 3A3Lo because it's significantly harder and he didn't want to increase the chance of messing up the rest of the program while he was focusing on 4A. I think he fell a couple of times on it during the practices, so it's not the most stable combo in the world, and he'd also have to do it right after 4A and 4S, which would increase the risk of falling and/or underrotating the 3Lo.

I don't think there's any particular reason to think he can't do 3F or 3Lz (3F would slot in to the existing choreo with fewer changes imo, but 3Lz is obviously a tad higher BV and a better jump for him overall). He just chose not to mess with the rest of the program, which I think makes sense for this competition because he needed the rest of the program to be clean/close to clean more than he needed to squeeze every single point out of the layout. But now that he's proven he can attempt 4A and still have stamina left for the rest of the program, he might consider upgrading. He's going to be practicing 3A3Lo anyway since it helps him with 4A, and this is the easiest way to increase the program's scoring potential without having to add a quad (which would also require making some pretty big alterations to the choreo).

I would be inclined to think Yuzu wants to avoid 4L and 4Z b/c of injury, but then again he learned 4F this year just for fun so I think he may be just fine. My dream is to see him squeeze every single point out of his FS by landing ratified 4A and including 3A-3L at Olympics. He may be considering that now, but I guess only he knows what is too much work the next few weeks vs worth the risk when it comes to prioritizing practices and such. He'll def analyze his program from every angle to come up with the decision he's most comfortable with.

'Don't make such a cool face when you were actually so relieved' he is messing with himself:smiley-laughing021:

I agree, I don't see him adding another quad, especially considering that both 4Lo and 4Lz are harder both physically and mentally (both burdening the same right ankle that needs to land Nessie). Using -3Lo and 3F (or 3Lz, but it would need more choreo changes, plus 3F still retains some of the circular sweeping feel of the loop, so it would fit music and his image of it better) seems like the best way to up bv, tho it adds another element of instability, plus -3lo combos are in general harder for the hips. I certainly hope he can be healthy till olys and consider that option, the world deserves to see his gorgeous 3A3Lo.

But getting a fully rotated 4A and landing it will already be hard. I won't give for granted that he can also do clean the rest of the program easily and add more and more risky elements.

So, while I hope for this bv upgrade, I want first and foremost Yuzu to be able to focus properly on the one thing that matters to him the most.

I'm glad that he stopped chasing for fraction of a point from the very people who are ready to tear him down at the slightest imperfection, and who made him feel worthless :curse:

let's be real, if he holds the edge for the 3F just a second longer, it would become a 3Lz
