Xiupia
3 hours ago, SaluYuzu said: How is it possible that Yuzu is not be the first ???!!! Figure skating is not a top 5 sport in Japan and baseball is arguably top 1. Every time Yuzu manages to top surveys or break into top 5 with the general public like this is very monumental, because baseball players will be known to the general public in a very natural way, while most would never watch figure skating. This type of result just indicates he is much bigger than his own sport in a season where he had actual poor results and didn’t compete much. Amazing. Link to comment

Geo1
8 hours ago, SaluYuzu said: How is it possible that Yuzu is not be the first ???!!! To understand why Shohei Ohtani is so popular, you have to understand that he is a unicorn in the sport of baseball just as Yuzu is a unicorn in figure skating. Just as Yuzu is a one-of-a-kind, never to be repeated type of skater, Shohei Ohtani is a one-of-a-kind, probably never to be repeated, type of ballplayer. For those of you who are not familiar with Shohei Ohtani, he was born on July 5, 1994, the same year as Yuzu, and is the same age (27) currently. He was also born in Tohoku, the region ravaged by the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. I will put further details of why Shohei Ohtani is special under the following spoiler, for those of you who are interested. Spoiler Shohei Ohtani is a Japanese baseball player who has been playing for the Los Angeles Angels of the MLB (Major League Baseball) American League since 2018. He is not just big news in Japan, he is big news in the United States where his nickname is "Showtime". He is the first true two-way player since Babe Ruth over 100 years ago. He is an ace pitcher capable of throwing fastballs over 100 mph (160 km/h) and hitting home runs. In 2021, Shohei Ohtani was the most valuable player in the American League and won a spate of other awards. He received a special award from the MLB Commissioner recognizing his historical significance as a two-way player. He was the first player in MLB history to be an All-Star as both a pitcher and a hitter. He was the starting pitcher and starting hitter in the 2021 All-Star Game. To put it into perspective, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Toronto Blue Jays had the most home runs in the MLB in 2021 with 48. Shohei Ohtani whose main job is not hitting baseballs had 46 home runs. Shohei's talents are not limited to pitching and hitting. He can field and run as well. Despite his size (193 cm/6'4" tall, 95 kg/210 pounds), he is one of the fastest runners in the MLB and had 26 stolen bases last year. So, like Yuzu, he is an all-around player and also studies the sport. Also like Yuzu, he is very respectful and humble. Whenever he sees trash on the field, he will pick it up and put it in his pocket until he can get to a garbage can. When a piece of a broken bat comes flying close to him, he will pick it up and hand it to one of the bat boys or ball boys instead of making them do it like most other players would. He is always respectful to umpires even when you can tell that he disagrees with the call. He does not act like the superstar that he is. He is very aware of his many fans and dedicates time to autographing baseballs and jerseys. He seems to be particularly aware of young fans and will go out of his way to sign a baseball or toss a baseball to a child or his or her father if the child is too young to catch it. Like Yuzu, Shohei has a lot of charisma and people say that there is a different vibe when he enters the room. Just like other figure skaters want to have their pictures taken with Yuzu, other baseball stars want to have their pictures taken with Shohei Ohtani. Shohei Ohtani is also generous. He was invited to participate in the Home Run Derby at the 2021 All-Star Game. The top prize for winning the Home Run Derby was $1 million. Even before participating, he pledged that he would divide whatever he received to the working staff (not players or management) of the Los Angeles Angels which would include employees like janitors. As it turned out, he did not win the home run derby, but he did receive $150,000 and true to his word, he made out individual checks to each of the employees and personally handed them out to show his appreciation for their unsung work and support. As the following video shows, Yuzuru Hanyu and Shohei Ohtani have mutual respect for each other. It is incredible that two amazing unicorns were born in the same year and in the same region of Japan to become the best in their respective sports. This is another video about Yuzu and Shohei. Apparently Shohei Ohtani was offered the People's Honor Award, but declined, saying that it was still too early for him – I.e., that he had not accomplished enough to deserve it. 8 hours ago, SaluYuzu said: So probably the respondents to this survey were mostly men. Darn! I wouldn't be too sure of that. Shohei Ohtani is tall, dark and handsome and has a lot of female fans. Edit: I put in the following spoiler a couple of short videos of what people are saying about Shohei Ohtani. One is a sports commentator and the other is a former MLB National League MVP and three-time All-Star. I wish that people were this honest and complimentary about Yuzu. Edit: OMG, the paper cup, haha The international Olympics Twitter also posted this. This really shows that there must a at least one Fanyu who is in marketing/social media at the Olympics. Just look at the details in the illustration. On top of the more obvious things like Yuzu's costumes, Olympic gold medals, and Pooh, there are the special edition Bing Dwen Dwen from Shiyue and Xinyu, the earphones, and even the water cup! These are things that only a Fanyu who follows Yuzu news closely would know about. Link to comment
