*more snort laugh* So the two top Japanese men can have the 4Lip and the 4Flutz between them.

They have the right number (and character) of letters to the jumps between them... :smiley-laughing021: So that makes it the perfect jump if we combine them together?

I know, but he usually doesn't make these declarations so... specific. Like, winning Olympics? Doing his best? Winning Worlds? There are multiple strategies that are possible for each and it leaves room for him to train and figure out what works.

To me, it;s the difference between saying 'I declare I will bake a cake you will absolutely love for your birthday' and declaring 'I will bake a chocolate fudge cake with peach coulis and sugar butterflies'. Unless you have been making perfect sugar butterflies for yourself in trials, that's a big difference and it's really making my head go all wonky.

Well there's no way you can really be coy about wanting the 4A lol it's not like he can say 'I want to do my best to break new grounds for jumps'...there's only one left right now : P anyway his goal seems to be twofold - his more 'typical' principle-like goal to put more of 'himself' in his programs (probably through trying new music/program styles) and slowly work his way to the 4A (a concrete result). He wouldn't come out and say it if he hasn't got reasonable belief he can do it, I'd say there's always more that people do in practice than they ever show in competitions.

He actually framed the OGM as a 'results related' goal in the interview and it makes sense. I've never felt he was only aiming for the gold medals in his competitions or stuff like 'I want to repeat as champion' for its own sake - it was always kind of the byproduct of delivering an ideal performance and pushing himself to higher levels (and indeed he was somewhat unsatisfied with some golds he got when he won but didn't deliver his ideal). But I felt like the 2nd OGM was one of his few concrete 'I must achieve this result' goals. So again, I'm so glad he did that.

Nah, Shoma has floop instead of a flip. Sorry, not taking that!

I agree with everything you say. Him mentioning a specific jump as a concrete goal just makes it so odd, makes me so suspicious like, really, how long have you been landing those, tell us, we won't tell anybody else.

Flip (lol) side is that I hope I'm in the minority because his usual way of only stating goals that he can either make happen himself or has a set time limit he cannot help (like Olys) could put him under much more pressure. He does have a track record of landing his new jump with +GOE in the first competition of the season. After everything he has said about the 4A, I'm honestly a wee bit worried about people just cutting him some slack and not expecting him to keep up his previous track record.

Actually..Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike said that ´Today Kodaira sensyu and Hanyu sensyu are here,  so please give me your autograph later.´ she livened up the atmosphere.

I don't know...I think he just uses the media declaration as some form of pressure on  himself to deliver and face things. Kind of like "I declared it, so I must execute it, no regrets allowed."

King of pressuring himself
