Is the lady part of the ANA camp or the JSF one again? I'm a tad confused.

While I agree Ballade is probably the most strategically sound choice for him this season, where a slightly more conservative strategy is more likely to pay off than an avant garde one--let's face it, it isn't as though he hasn't already gone down the latter path when he was younger and more reckless, and came out on top still--and I'm happy he went with it now that I've seen what he made of it since (and that was still early WIP to boot), contrary to what Shirota has been quoted to have said, I think LGC would probably have screamed "I'M THE REIGNING CHAMP HERE TO DEFEND WHAT'S MINE YO! ALL YA PEOPLE CAN TRY TO TAKE IT FROM ME BUT YA WON'T SUCCEED IF MY SPARKLY PURPLE OUTFIT HAS ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT" louder than Chopin ever could.

That one is the ultimate showman piece if I've ever seen one. And it really, really suited him (he's the only skater with enough pizzazz and innate cocksureness on the ice to pull it off, something he's fully convinced the fs world of by the end of last season's GPF). Had he the confidence to pull it off going into the season, and I'm thinking he probably would have if he had managed to skate it clean at least once late last season, it would be the kind of in-your-face program even the most casual of fans would remember for life, since it would also have been a fantastic tribute to Prince. It would make even non-fans seat up and take notice. Imagine the amount of new fans that would have brought the sport. With that as SP and SEIMEI for LP, if he skates them both clean on the Oly stage, he would quite literally singlehandedly change the world's perception of the sport.

LGC would've been every bit as worthy of being part of the reigning champ's path as Ballade is. And I can't help but lament the fact that we won't be seeing it where it would've shone the brightest.

The alternative is lovely in its own right, however, and gives him the kind of comfort he can't afford to not have this season, plus there's still SEIMEI to pull in new fans so it's all good.

This. LGC plus Seimei would be incredibly epic. (And I admit, all the skaters switching programs nowadays make me wonder... lol). I understand all the arguments in favor of Chopin and, indeed, unless he got over his mental blocks on LGC, it could turn out badly. BUT, if he managed to get over those and do LGC perfect consistently, most probably upgraded, as well, because this is Yuzu we're talking about, it would have a much bigger impact. I think what bugs me  - and I sometimes worry it might bug him, too - is that it seems like he lost confidence that he can do LGC clean. I want him to do whatever he's happiest with, but I don't really want him choosing a program because he's lost confidence in another (and someone encouraging him to choose it over the one he lost confidence in is like that someone also saying they don't have the confidence he can pull it off, and that's not really a message he should get from his own team, IMO). So, it's not so much about the choice itself, and it's not even about choosing the safe option. It's about the implications it might have about his self-confidence.

Oh and I think Shirota is ANA, but that's just from what I've seen around, myself.

I think his choice of Chopin is more about rising the average than about losing confidence. LGC is a program that is very unforgiving of mistakes and a little lapse of concentration can cause  him to lose a lot of points as we've seen last season. Also, didn't Brian say that he thought Chopin was the best option as well? I think the choice was more or less a team decision and they all agree that it is the best thing to do this season
