  1. I get both sides here. I'm in Seoul and into kpop so I can say it is super common here for fans to rent out ad spaces either in heavily populated areas or areas near whether the idol's company is, not just bus stop but the sides of buses, in subway spaces, inside subway trains, inside cafes (on the calling bells that let customers know when their drink is ready) literally anywhere they can get them. It's is partially as the gesture for the idol, partially for promotion, but also partially as an ego thing for the fans. I'm sure the fans that put the birthday message at the bus stop outside TCC meant it as a purely sweet gesture and I see that. But I also see how it's kinda creepy a touch intrusive and it just doesn't really translate well there. He's not an idol. He doesn't need promoting. Especially not in Canada... Not when he's mentioned pretty explicitly a few times he doesn't like being treated like an idol and sees tcc as his little safe space where he can walk around freely and not be bothered. Idk it might have worked better if put up in Japan or hell in Korea with a good luck message for pyeongchang as a kind of way to promote him as an olympic medal contender? send picture of that to the internet and hes bound to catch wind of fans in different countries doing that form him... I don't want to put down the fans for doing it because i understand where the gesture comes from, as someone who has chipped in for a subway add for my nugu fave's birthday. But there are, uh, negatives. Hopefully he won't be creeped out by it and will take it as the heartfelt gesture of fan support it was intended as. Also yeah, if he mentioned something he wanted he'd get flooded with it. a member of a korean boy group mentioned he wanted a macbook and received like 10 from fans. any time an idol mentions something specific they want now they get called out for fishing for fangifts. It would be WAY better if Yuzu fans were to take any Kpop birthday-event trend they dont get gifts and don't rent ad spaces but instead raise money for a charity and donate in his name. That and sponsoring chunks of land for forest restoration are probably the best birthday projects i see happening.
  2. Icing doesn't necessarily mean it hurt? It's part of good muscle care when you use muscles that intensely. It helps reduce fatigue in the muscle after intense use - ice after exercise, rest, then use a heating pad or something later. I wouldn't be surprised if he commonly takes ice baths after training or competitions.
  3. I have been summoned 'Bouncy' just makes me think or if we are doing 'bouncy and energetic but cool' but realistically Yuzu is more of a meme
  4. Yes. I could almost weep at how sad it is we're not going to see a Hanyu 3A for like another 4 weeks.
  5. We can only dream. I think Shoma could win? but I don't think any of Yuzu's records will be beat. tbh i don;t even think either will reach/exceed 110/219. get close maybe, but hit it? for Nathan, not yet. His programs are good but the quality and performance isn't there yet, and with Shoma, his tech quality isn't there and his programs are..........womp womp. Though i guess you never know when you've got some judges trying to hand nathan 10s....
  6. I would love for Adam to podium *__* This GP has been a mess *shakes head* Yuzuru sprained his ankle, javi got food poisoning at COC, Shoma got the flu with a temp of 39 and was asleep for 4 days, Boyang has sprained both his ankles????, Adam dislocated his shoulder at the beginning of his free skate but popped in back in and kept going. and that's just the top men.... I hope everyone stays wrapped in cotton wool up to the final tbh. At least Yuzu has a good chance of being in good condition for Nationals.
  7. If we are going off performance in the gp placements, likely podium will be Shoma, Nathan, Mikhail. But lbr anything could happen. hopefully the trend of every gp event being a disaster ends with SA...
  8. Human Informatics does sound pretty interesting... I did my degree in photography and was really into the media studies side of things and did a lot of research and writing on visual culture and the function of images as communicative media in human culture/semiotics/all that fun stuff. All the more social studies type stuff I did thinking about how people interact with media and how media functions was my favourite part of my degree. Sounds like the kind of course I might have taken if I had actually taken critical thinking at A level like I wanted to and had been better at psychology...
  9. I very much hope Yuzuru is ignoring all outside opinions. If he does what many are saying and loses Olys due to another skater having a BV advantage it will be 'ohhhh he should have had a harder layout' and if he loses due to a fall on the lz it'll be 'ohhh he should've reduced the difficultly'. Either way if he skates clean he wins. With the lutz he had a better chance of a more comfortable margin so him being relatively underscored/ other skaters' scores being inflated won;t be so great of a threat. He's got to do what he wants to do ant what he thinks is right. Anyone who isn't directly part of his team or one of his doctors/physiotherapists/whatever helping with his recovery doesn't have any business throwing in their 2 cents tbh. I'm sure his team has a plan, and back-up plans, for the recovery and re-strengthening of his ankle. We're probably going to go nuts from there being no updates on his progress until nationals but i'm confident he will be okay so long as Yuzu follows his rehab program, does all his physio and doesn't over-do anything, eats his proteins and looks after himself.
  10. oh mannnn thats so cool. But this just made me super emo that it's going to be so long before we see a new seimei hydroblade moment, whether he plays with the exit or not
  11. lmao i bet kid yuzu loved doing that thing where he looked like smth out of the exocist
  12. He could just be real honest and admit he'd look really weird with facial hair. Some facial structures just look way better without it. But he's probably gonna say some crap about looking the part and making a good impression on judges and it being part of musical interpretation or something like he did when he was selling shampoo . I can't wait, I love it, the way he talks in adverts is the way I do in job interviews (it's very effective, I was offered all the jobs I've had before the interview ended. so. life tip i guess. want a job? pretend your Yuzu in a p&g advert)
  13. I lowkey can't wait to hear some high grade bullshit from Yuzuru about how shaving is important to figure skating in some way.
  14. idk about in japan but in the uk P&G had made like full 5 minute adverts for these kinds of things. they tend to not be ran very frequently because they have to rent out the entire advertisement block to show it, so they'll have shorter variations, but i bet with things like the Yuzu ad and youtube being a thing it's way worth making a really long one.
  15. Hangeul is super easy to learn and maybe the whole ~it was invested to be easy as shit to learn~ part of it would interest Yuzuru's nerd brain
  16. ...... is that really how he wrote it? ..... that is so cute...... ka-moo-sa-moo-ni-da I'm dying that is so cute but maybe Junhwan should help him brush up on some crowd pleasing basic phrases before Pyeongchang
  17. Because we might need it now... What are your favourite clips or YUzu laughing, smiling, being happy or being a dork?
  18. I enjoy that thing he does to add stress where his voice goes hella squeaky lmaoooo Also I am so confused by british vs canadian vs american 'sorry' I say 'sorry' with a short 'o' sound. like...'Orange' -> 'SOrry' Canadians say 'Sorry' with an 'or' sound? s-or-ry? Americans say with an 'aw' sound? s-aw-ry? ew. that's ugly. ew.
  19. No it's not just you, he does say things kind of muffled. Maybe a lack of confidence in English thing. I'm also super used to hearing Asian-accented English so I can decipher him pretty well.
  20. Haha it's really odd to have RP kind of careful pronunciation (I try to not let the ends of my words get muffled the way it does in my region) with standard Northern vowel sounds. But I think Brian Cox's accent is a fair approximation. But I used to get teased for being 'posh' in school for my little bit of RP hahaha I could help Yuzuru speak a lot clearer anyway I'd do it for free!
  21. Yeah. I'm North West English (kinda like this guy) with a tiny bit of Liverpool and a touch of RP because I had speech therapy when I was small and naggy parents.
  22. I've been an EFL teacher for 4 years Though I mostly teach kids. And I lived with second-language speakers through university, though they were mostly Indian. I get teased by my family now because I sound more American than I did 4 years ago because the kids found it super hard to understand me. Though I still can't say 'can't', 'water' or some other words the way American's do and my vowel sounds are often harsher so the kids make fun of me Some American accents are okay but most of them annoy me hahaha
  23. Korean/Japanese/Chinese guys tend to have real shitty facial hair save a rare and magical few. I don't Yuzuru would look good with face fluff sadly. I wonder if he ever gets super lazy and lets it grow? How long would he have to not shave for to get a good bit of stubble? haha I think Yuzuru's English is pretty good? I think it's hard in competition environments because he seems like he'd get pretty frustrated at having a limited vocabulary so his brain is crafting these great responses to questions and then he's having to cram those thoughts into English. It's like trying to write a novel out of alphabetti spaghetti. His pronunciation is pretty neutral which is good because American accents make my ears sad but he sometimes blends sounds weird or slurs a bit or outright over-pronounces which is a odd combo but there you go. He's clear enough to be understandable though. He is pretty good at sentence structuring which can be hard going from a SOV language to a SVO language. He has some vocab issues ('I was feeling very hard' when he wants to say something was tiring or difficult or he was trying very hard) and issues saying the wrong form of words that share meanings but has a noun form and a descriptive form (keep my pride/to be proud, Yuzu says 'keep my proud') but doesn't seem to have noticeable problems with things like tenses. And he seems to have pretty good audio comprehension. All in all, not bad. I would maybe do a bit of phonics work with him and he might benefit from a conversation partner who isn't also using English as a second language but he meets the basic requirement of being understandable. I don't really hear him say anything in English and have zero idea what he meant.
