Putting in Patrick's stuff for GP tracking hurt. ;A;
-
Oh I thought I was clear saying specifically in the GP events so far. But even with Lombardia factored in Shoma's GOE was just 0.71 points higher than Yuzuru's Rostelecom FS. And Yuzuru had 2 PCS over him. But yeah Yuzuru just needs to avoid pops. but it's easier said than done.
-
Yeah, depends what they do later on for their layouts but Yuzuru is certainly not relying on anything and he has time to get his 4lz stable and 4lo back to where it was last season. Yuzuru's definitely isn't leaving anything to chance.

I hate maths but boy has this sport got me real interested in numbers and spreadsheeting lmao

Catching up... I wouldn't worry too much about Yuzu this season guys. Some factoids: - So far in the GPs Yuzu has the highest PCS in SP and FS and he wasn't even clean. - Yuzu also got the most GOE awarded in the FS - While it's a bit early to really say Shoma has a trend going since it's only his 3rd senior season... While Yuzuru tends to do pretty bad his first 2 events and then do really well at GPF and Worlds Shoma so far tends to do well at his GP events and then do not-so-great at GPF and Nationals. - Yuzuru shows continuous growth from season to season. The only season he didn't show much growth was 14-15 and he bounced back from that tremendously. Last season he also didn't have (much of) an increase in his averages for GOE, PCS and average total score but is already showing bounce-back from that. - Yuzuru average GOEs for almost every jump are higher than Shoma's and Yuzuru has the downside here of me using data from 2010 onward. Is Shoma/Nathan/Boyang a threat? Sure. But. No more than Javier For someone getting labelled as being consistent, Shoma does not have higher jump consistency than Yuzuru. Even last season the only jump of Yuzuru's below 60% consistency was the 4S3T. Shoma has 5 jumps and combos under 50% for positive GOE compared to Yuzuru's 3 (excluding jumps that he doesn't use anymore or only attempted once). Shoma has a good momentum right now but I really worry about him peaking too soon or burning himself out. I guess we'll see how it goes but regardless Yuzuru doesn't need to rely on Shoma or anyone else doing badly, he just needs to do well and....rotate his jumps. Shoma is def getting some PCS fluffing but there's only so much hey can do with that. With all the top men in the same competition, it would be really hard to justify scoring anyone's PCS over Yuzuru's (unless he totally bombs but we're past the point where Yuzuru typically does that). Yuzu might not have the younger dudes on BV but he has them on GOE and PCS and the BV gap is not big enough for them to sneak ahead of him if Yuzuru skates clean by even the most generous of definitions.

Why is Yuzu such a meme he even gets cosplayed....... I'm so curious as to....why? A halloween thing?
-
Is this new? I remember seeing the beginning bit posted somewhere out of context like 'this is so inappropriate' lmao

guys, you're making me feel very breathless at the thought of being in the arena for Olympics!Seimei I'm gonna die.
-
Ah see I'm blessed because there's a lot of really gorgeous guys in Seoul to make my eyes happy but I like living that solo life and I'm no where near cute enough to get a boyfriend. I'm so happy you got to go!! And you got to see his first in competition 4lz! tbh I wasn't surprised at all at the news he doesn't intend to retire after PC because I honestly thought going back to 15-16 programs was a neon sign he wouldn't. Now it's just how long he'll stay for. I've always thought at least 2 more seasons but maybe he'll go for a 3rd olympics if he stays injury free *touch wood*

hmmmm if I could cook for him it would depend if I had oven access XD I like baking so I'd probably do some cakes for him, maybe go all out and make a little afternoon tea set-up with scones, fairy cakes, a little fruit cake... If it was an opportunity in my Korean apartment though I would cook for him, I'd just buy him some food If I had to be Yuzu's tour guide around Seoul I'd maybe take him to Haneul Park because it's pretty and you have a nice view of the city, then I'd maybe take him to Apgujeong/Garosugil to get him some nice clothes and pop into a good cafe and then go to the river for the view across the water of Namsan. Wouldn't actually go to Namsan though because it's right next to Myeongdong and always full of Japanese tourists. I love Seoul so much but I honestly don't really go out and do anything much here. If he came to my area of England though...I'd probably take him out of the city. There's a nice park near by hometown where you can go up a hill and get a nice view or leisurely walk down the canal. He likes squirrels so I could take him to Formby point which is a red squirrel reserve, or Delamere Forest, or some Peak District spots that are near me because a quiet romp around in nature is nice and usually when people visit England they go to London and miss all the pretty green places up North. My actual town is kinda crappy so other than nature places I'd just take him to Manchester or Liverpool. Or if we stick to my actual home town I'd take him to a rugby match since the team is all we have going for us and I grew up in a rugby household so I can explain the rules to him I thought about this too much LOL

I think Yuzu's manner hands are really sweet hahaha

I think Boyang won over a lot of people last year with Spiderman and La Strada. For me it was that he was skating with so much joy and this bright, bubbly personality that just makes him shine. I thought it was really smart of him to kind of make up for what he lacks in skating skills and transitions with personality and charm. And I'm genuinely very happy that he cares about raising his performance components through hard work on his skills and developing artistry. Last year I thought Nathan really lacked any kind of personality or style, and this year Shoma...his free program...is so boring and sort of makes his short seem dull in conjunction (bring back loco). I'm not as invested in Boyang as I am with Shoma but I'm very fond of him.

Just wanted to say I've updated my stats sheet for Yuzuru ^^ https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JKEpZyL6gJen3eaO4OtJbr53f7VyTpAF0IvZkjszfhw/edit?usp=drive_web I also made a similar thing for Shoma https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sYaoFMzzO_KuhqLruUmJgWwDfNBjRb780M9OGHAPBkM/edit#gid=0 Though it should be noted Shoma has less data and these are more things to track individual progress rather than comparisons As for combos...for the lutz maybe but Yuzuru hasn't ever really done many loop combos so I don't think the 4lo will get used for a combo. You never know though.

tbh I've never looked at Yuzuru ad particularly thought he looked like a girl. He looks boyish and has soft/more delicate features and can be a bit androgynous but he always still looks clearly like a guy. One of the things I really liked about him from Sochi was how he embraced it and played with it going from a more masculine program to a more feminine one. But. He's a guy playing with gender expectations. Idk I never found it that hard to get that there's not just one type of masculinity. I think Yuzuru is plenty masculine. Just maybe not in the same way as some other guys...

I don't think I'm really capable of comparing seimei 1 to seimei 2 yet for the same reason, my brain thinks of seimei 1 as the NHK/GPF performances that were magical and give me goosebumps. 2.0 isn't there yet. First at ACI Yuzuru was unfocused and not really performing the character and at COR he was noticeably slow. It's hard to know if some details that are missing will be reintegrated once Yuzu feels more comfortable with the layout (like...everything before the first two jumps, maybe some different details will emerge in time but it's understandable why some choreography has been outright lost there), I think seimei 2's stsq is better, there's a particular video from practice where the stq just looks ferocious but it's not quite been performed in competition at it's best yet (and he keeps getting a level 3 so who knows maybe it'll be altered by nhk), I love the additional choreography when the drums start up after the 4T/where the 3A2T used to be and I think he utilitises the flute portion before that jump better even though that lil' "spiral" is a touch on the why bother side (like, maybe some other transitional move could be put there instead, something he could actually commit to and make count) and I like the little exit from the hydroblade - things like that and the final 3A are going to be real spine-tingling moments when he performs closer to his best but...like...it's the start of the season and the layout is hard. I can't really expect him to perform his ass off right now. I just hope he performs his ass off when it really counts. Right now we're still just warming up I mean, this was the primary risk of going back to Ballade and Seimei, that people will think they've already been performed at their very best and can't be topped or matched. It's partially why I had hoped he would go for costumes that were less alike to the 2015-16 versions, to add a degree of separation so this season's performances can more easily be enjoyed as their own unique performances a little easier without that feeling of needing to overwrite NHK/GPF '15. But even so early in the season I can spot how his skating has refined since 2015 and which moments in the program are going to be real special when he nails it (I don't even particularly mean skate 100% clean, just when he really nails the performance and feeling)
-
gosh thats so lovely to know! I hope they all feel your love and the love of all of Yuzu's international fans! You worked hard I'm so glad you got that lil' bit of confirmation that yours swans/thoughts/love reached Yuzu and is appreciated
-
its cool, I can get why some might not be into his thing of staring into the middle distance. He was quite limited expression atm which hopefully he will work on in the next oly cycle seeing as how he wants to skate for a long time (and, you know, work on the jump technique). the only think i can't abide is zeroing in on his faults and totally ignoring his strengths which is unfortunately really common when it comes to shoma...esp coming from yuzuru fans which makes me really sad... While I am a Shoma fan I do find myself thinking this season I kinda hope other's kind of prevail over him. purely because his program choices are so dull i want to cry and I would like for him to have an intensive to try to bust out of the little comfort zone he's got himself in. I'm really on board with Boyang's heartfelt efforts to address his weaknesses so I root for him quite a bit. I see his effort and I enjoy it. obv i don't want anyone to beat Hanyu not anywhere that really matters anyway. I'm not that keen on Nathan but I'm warming up to him since there's a bit more in the way of TR and choreography going on in this season's programs and he's a lot more connected to the music and skating with some character which is nice to see but i'm still kinda meh because I found, once the wow factor of an assload of quads lost its shine, his programs last season were super disengaging. I'm hoping he manages to hold onto some balance when the quads all get added in to the fs but we'll see. Out of the squad my preference is probably Shoma-> Boyang-> Chen but this year, just based on programs, I'm probably Boyang_>Chen->Shoma. being real i'm going to be happy and sad whoever gets on to the olympic team for ladies. It would be wonderful for Wakaba if she made it but I'd be really happy if Mai made it too. And, of course, I want Satoko to be healthy and on form so she can earn her spot....
-
I just want to lie down and watch it until its ingrained in my brain the entry edge the height i love it its so pretty
-
I am with you in liking Wakaba! I'm very soft for Mai too. I'm gonna be honest I just can't bring myself to like Evgenia, better choreography would make me more forgiving of her flaws (I am too used to Hanyu coming in and out of his jumps smooth as butter, I find how she sets up most of her jumps really pulls me out of her program and she has some of the same crappy technique as Shoma just way less pronounced) but as she is right now I'm just not into her. I respect what she's doing with that mental strength and stamina and freakish consistency but I think she's overscored in PCS and theres a pile of ladies I enjoy more than her. and I barely follow ladies. To be fair....Shoma's programs this season are. um. not great. I would not be upset if he went back to Loco instead of using Turandot again for his fs. I'm yet to form on opinion on his short other than I got distracted by his Grey Velvet Pants of Sin even in the rather wanky quality of the lombardia stream But he went for very safe choices and its a bit of a letdown given his most enjoyable (senior) programs were Legends and Loco (even if the screaming was a bit much) which were slightly more interesting choices music wise. His step sequences are great though and i generally really like how he moves n the ice but. yeah. I don;t really expect him to grow on anyone this season when his program choices are the dullest of the top 6

Not wanting to dump myself in Med talk again but imo what makes her boring to some is really just down to poor choreography. All she really needs is the work with different choreographers and work on her performance/interpretation. I am hoping and praying so much that she will branch out after Pyeongchang. I would love for her to work with Misha, he could help her so much in terms of connecting to her music. Like, I can enjoy Shoma despite all of his flaws because where he excels in choreography (tho maybe not with Turandot), interpretation and performance which is pretty much exactly where Evgenia falls totally flat for me and makes it hard to engage with her skating. She has so many interesting transitions and her mental strength/stamina is incredible. There's so much she can do but it's choreographed so nothing really stands out as a moment to remember (and a lot of her programs are kind of...samey imo). She could challenge herself more technically i guess but I understand why she doesn't - there's not much point to do more than she is, and backloading with every possible GOE raising thing attached to every element is pretty challenging in itself. She could improve some of her jumps (but, like with Shoma and others, judges are kind of 'meh' about truly punishing less than ideal technique at the moment), or she could try for a quad (but why would she, honestly, it would mess with her consistancy and she's already scoring so much higher than any other woman. When other ladies rise to be able to match or beat her, then there's a drive to, but right now why bother) But really I'd rather she branched out with her choreography and relied less on kitchy mime and little gimmicks to distinguish programs first. It's a real shame I don't find any of her programs memorable. Tho I guess it's also unfair to compare her to Yuzuru who gets very involved with his choreo and characterisation and is So Very Dramatic to make his programs have that memorable quality. IA it's unfair to compare the consistency, or lack thereof, of the men's field/Yuzuru to Evgenia because they are so very different. But that Yuzu does push himself technically with new elements, is always working to further refine his skills and technique and pushes himself forwards artistically (though...repeating programs. but at least they are well choreographed, well-conceptualised programs that are upgraded to include additional touches to enhance the artistry of the piece...) is what makes him so special

Soju isn't that strong (literally half the alcohol % of vodka) but seeing as how it's like $2 a bottle.... I only plan on drinking enough no feel no concern haha I made a mistake of drinking half a bottle of wine during worlds fs and it just meant i was Too Emo after Yuzu's skate to watch anyone else though my tears lol

I'm super low on money too for another week or so ;A; I'm a bad adult ;A; Luckily soju is realy cheap so I might be able to rangle enough change for some soju to alcoholise my non alcoholic beer -__- somaek light i guess.
