If a bunch of you are gonna to stream the morning news from japan I assume some will try to screen record? I will stay up for the interviews but not for the practices and likely won't be awake to stream japanese morning tv XD so I would really appreciate any video clips being put up
-
I mean luckily this is happening right as i start my 2 week vacation from work So staying up til like 1am for at least any news that will come out of the interviews is fine
-
I just figured out I'm around 13 hours ahead of Toronto??? So 11am is midnight here. 2:30 is about 3:30am for me and 5pm will be like 5am. I'm either doing an all nighter or waking up very early to trawl through 20000 pages here XD
-
11am, 2:30/5pm Toronto time? hahahahahahaha i'm not gonna be able to sleep i wanna die I wish this was japan time instead fml
-
ah yes now we have a date for when this site will potentially implode
-
I'm so curious how the outfit will change, if at all.
-
hahaha when I saw Sunghoon's free skate costume I first thought of Yuzu's Chopin. It's a really pretty outfit (I took a lot of photos of him haha He's a real photogenic kid)
-
Oh, well, yeah there is that XD 4T is real solid and is really close to catching up with 3A as a super reliable jump. Average GOE isn't nearly as high but another good season with it and it'll get there
-
well his 3A is too valuable, it's his most reliable jump with the most consistent high GOE of at least a +2 so he's almost always getting around 10.5 or more points for it which is as much as a so-so quad effort and more than what he would get on a quad with a fall or hand down. I'd rather he stuck to 4 quads and 2 3As than went for 5 quads and just 1 3A to be honest...
-
Oh I know he's not afraid of showing weakness, but just doesn't like making excuses! I just didn't know how to word it succinctly >< He has good self-awareness I think. I get the feeling he learned a lot from Boston....

I kinda understand where he's coming from but he will have a lot more knowledge than me because I only studied psychology at A level (which is the UK is this weird bit between high school and university age 16/17-18/19) but studying things like that can really help with self-awareness and you can develop some self-correcting behaviour or at least become more sensitive to recognising when you have problems that need to be talked out/dealt with (I recognised it within myself I, however, opted to ignore my need for help and chose my illness over wellness because my problem has a tendency to warp your mind in that way. yay. At least I was self-aware I guess). I remember clearly that after studying about sleep and dreaming - particularly lucid dreaming - I kind of taught myself to lucid dream (having never experienced it before) and even analyse dreams as I was sleeping. My college had an entirely separate course on critical thinking/cognitive psychology I was interested in but didn't have time to take up as part of my studies. It makes sense to me that he would be interested in those fields (cognitive and behavioural psychology, education and all the theory that goes into the psychology of learning from the standpoint of the educator and student etc) since 1) it's interesting and 2) a large part of skating as a sport is dealing with pressure. I like that he seems interested in both physical and psychological self-care since he can apply some of what he studies to himself, which will do him a world of good, but also help people around him especially if he ever does get into coaching. It seems fitting he'd be interested in psychology and physiology since a good balance of the two is kind of the key to succeeding in a sport like figure skating, which an individual sport with pretty much everything riding on a single performance (or, at least, two performances per event) as opposed to team sports like rugby or football where the pressure is a bit more spread out across the entire season. I'd love to hear him talk more about this kind of thing since I have my own interests (though I veered off into media theory and collective psychologies, though I am considering studying education more), but I get it might be kind of personal considering he does seem to be taking his study and applying it to himself in some ways. Having a diary of competitions and practices including physical and psychological conditions so he can analyse what causes for mistakes were and how to address those causes to avoid them in the future is hella interesting. He seems to not really like publicly letting on to any kinds of 'weakness' (not mentioning injuries until after events, never discussing boot problems when he has them, downplaying injuries or mental pressure, rarely discussing his asthma...) so I dunno if he'd ever go into any detail about what things he learned and applied to himself. It seems to fit in really well with some of what Brian has said about his general approach to coaching. No wonder Brian's method seems to work so well for Yuzuru. I wonder how he's getting along in University... Having a genuine interest and complex motivations usually yields good results but you never know I found this interview really interesting lmao.

My 2 cents about posting hateful comments to vent frustrations: I have been a fan of a particular idol who, since the very beginning of his career, has attracted a lot of negative attention (through no fault of his own), false accusations, personal attacks, death threats etc. with very little fan support to counter-act the negativity. It is natural for any public figure to attract haters, it happens to everyone who enters the public eye and sadly the internet emboldens many people the say and do disgusting things just because they don't particularly like a particularly public figure. The best thing to do is to block and report these people when you see such posts, and counter-act with love and support as much as you can. If Yuzu is one to self-google and check in on fans and becomes aware of this site, all I want him to find here is fans talking about his activities and his skating, enjoying what he does, appreciating his hard work, admiring his skill and cheering him on - not flame wars and drawing attention to anti-fans. We can't protect him from all hateful comments, we can't rid the world of people who dislike him, but we can choose to not draw any extra attention to these people and their vile comments.

My photos from the senior free skate are uploaded! https://www.flickr.com/photos/157328995@N05/ My heart breaks for Junhwan, I really had hoped his injuries were not serious. What a horrible way to start his senior debut. I really hope he can recover before the GP events and fix whatever is causing the problem.
-
Anyway he's June-Hyoung at the gala doing 나야나
-
I've done some snooping on Naver My korean isnt great and I just scanned articles so I might come back to correct myself later when i actually attempt to read these articles properly but: - Junhwan has been having pain in his hip and possibly both ankles. could be related to training 4lo - June-Hyeong will go on to Nebelhorn to try to get an olympic spot for men, he will need to come 6th to get an olympic spot for korean men - June-Hyeong mentioned possibly upgrading his layout for Nabelhorn and improving his 3A. Mentioned training a 4F but I doubt he's gonna add it tbh whatever he's thinking of to boost him BV for Nebelhorn I hope is not as risky as adding a 4F... He mostly just said he wants to get his 3A higher and more stable. - Junhwan's injuries do not seem to be serious, but bothersome enough to affect his performance. I'm hoping the injuries and the boot issues as fixed for GP series.
-
Junhwan didn't come out for the ending ceremony but I dunno why. I feel bad for him. Not sure what his injury is but with him not coming out I wonder if he had to leave becaus eof an injury or if he was just really crushed about coming 3rd...
-
Everyone was really good! I need to study up more on recognising elements but watching live is really great. Especially when you can see the differences in speed and things. Yerim was really impressive and Soyoun also really stood out. It was also really striking how much popularity/hype Junhwan/Brian Orser has lmao. Everyone just wanted to see Brian
-
Also, I think Soyoun's Black Swan was very beautiful! I got many good photographs of her| http://jinab.tumblr.com/post/163559226078/park-soyoun-at-ksu-qualifying-event-sp-black

I'm in the process of editing and uploading my photos from today! I see some have already been posted here but he's where I'm dumping all of them: https://www.flickr.com/photos/157328995@N05/ as well as on twitter. I just have senior men left to process, they should be done soon.

I like NPD but for the wrong reasons - like his reaction to sitting on his butt mid spin and his embarrassed little head tilt being the absolute cutest thing. The music cut is nice but it's also a bit...boring. I didn't like RJ2 for the same reason. Yuzu suits music with a bit more punch.
-
oh his recent talk of feeling very motivated and enjoying skating along with his smarter attitude towards his health has me extremely hopeful for the future but with hope comes fear lol
-
oh definitely olympics is not the time to break out of...whatever his comfort zone is. I can only hope he does see value in hanging around for a while after the olympics... seimei 2.0 with or without different music cuts is going to be incredible, no doubt, but I worry but anything I worry about is something Yuzu and his team have definitely considered and come up with some kind of solution
-
I am torn about the possibility of his bringing back seimei. On one hand, I worry it would be viewed super unfavourably for him to recycle two programs from a recent season, and it may be held against him and possibly be used to Yuna him. But on the other hand, it's totally understandable why he would and it's a great program that i feel still has potential, even in the transition choreography, to be built upon and improved considering, considering how complex hope and legacy was. I mean, Chopin is coming back for a third round and we haven't seen the finished product but it already has added touches that elevate it from the hand gestures in the spins to the ina bauer moment in the step sequence... after seeing the H&L at Worlds I watched the NHK/GPF seimei again and it is astonishing how much he increased the complexity of his programs in such a short space of time on the back of a foot injury??? imagine Seimei with an upgraded jump layout and a smattering of extra touches in the transitions (tho tbh he doesn't need much added there) step sequence (cuz you know he's gonna still be salty about the level 3s) and maybe the choreographic sequence or some added flare to the spins?? Not even if he took it to the kind of complexity H&L had just smoothing it out so it flowed even more seamlessly from element to element...the confidence and comfort the program could give him plus any additional touches that would just be there because he has grown a lot as a skater over the past season... gosh. especially finishing last season injury free with improved physical condition and a keener interest in avoiding injury and getting fitter. That program with him at his best ever fitness? um yes please. I do kind of hope for new music but I would be unhappy with seimei 2.0 I would maybe worry that, especially if he did skate 2 clean programs at olympics which I really, really want for him, he'd maybe feel like that's it - the best he can produce, he can't surpass it in competitions. and that would be tragic because I personally do think he does have more to give because...he's sorta reaching his peak and isn't close to a decline yet imo. I'd love to see him for 2 more seasons or so experimenting with different styles, maybe taking Chiddy's post-Sochi attitude of wanting to compete for personal satisfaction/a good performance and not really focusing much of winning titles (though....Yuzu...is a dragon and likes his gold)

I guess it will depend on how the +5/-5 GOE is applied too. If judges are a bit more stingy with the GOE only give +4 and +5 to jumps that don't look laboured, aren't telegraphed, have good air position, good take off, good height, good distance and strong landings then having good technique and quality to jumps will be worth it, but if it's like now where jumps can get over +2 just for being landed without a serious error (even if they look really laboured) then it won't really matter. If PCS value is raised and points are given outside of a PCS corridor, without points being given in PCS because the judges were impressed the skater tried an assload of quads, and GOE is applied a bit more consistently then maybe there will be more balance between quality and quantity. But lbr right now it's worth it to just try it and land a so-so quad vs a perfect triple because judges will be more generous with GOE and PCS to those who pack their programs with quads.
