  1. Wow there's some really gorgeous photos here
  2. I went for Notte Stellata, both Chopin costumes, Seimei and the 2nd POTO but RJ1, H&L and Requiem are also favourites of mine. I think his Chopin costumes are probably the closest to a standard/classic costume (as in, other skaters would wear something like it) Yuzu gets but he pulls them off in a special way, both are really pretty and well suited for the program, though I do think the gold accents improved to costume a lot. Seimei and POTO2 (& RJ1) were perfect for the programs' character. I like the ornateness of Notte and Requiem and just the fact that I cannot imagine anyone else wearing anything like it without them looking stupid while Yuzu just looks stunning in them.
  3. No problem, I got cross-eyed too when I look at protocols and scores and doing all the math and stats for his scores. So I feel your pain :space: I think 2015/16, due to NHK and GPF, it is just a given that his average PCS is going to be higher than 16/17 season. But his average performance this season imo is better than he has ever been in his entire senior season :D Anyway, this site is my go-to for the summary of his TES and PCS, (and protocols). You can check this one for reference instead of going through each protocols, it is easier  http://skatedb.net/modules/skateDB/index.php?page=player&playerid=618 Omg I wish I knew about this before XD Also if anyone was wondering, the final piece of the puzzle... Combined score averages and trends: 2010-11: 214.61 2011-12: 238.87 (+24.3) 2012-13: 257.25 (+17.38) 2013-14: 273.95 (+17.70) 2014-15: 267.01 (-6.95) 2015-16: 295.18 (+28.17) 2016-17: 289.75 (-5.42) I think both 2014-15 AND 2015-16 should be counted as outliers  IA that while the trend might go down for the 16-17 season it's more because 15-16 had some extremely high scores that mess with the average, his scores were fairly stable this season. The points difference between the highest and lowest combined score for 2015-16 is 70.89 points while the difference for 16-17 season is 61.02 (which is still pretty big but it's also Autumn classic vs Worlds)
  4. Jina, I think there is a mistake here. His PCS for 2014/15 season in the LP is still pretty high. CoC : 84.02, NHK: 82.48 GPF: 91.78 (nats: 91.6) World : 88.64, WTT: 93.36. The average can't be 71.19. Also, the 2016/17 average PCS, is it really 96.6? He only received over 96 once at worlds (97) but the rest is below that so I think the average should be lower. This is his PCS from AC to worlds, respectively : 86.60, 88.12, 92.52, 92.36, 94.34, 97.03 You're right! whoops, I think I forgot to put a score in when I was calculating: 14-15 PCS Average is 88 so he was actually +1.24. 2016-17 I typo'd I was supposed to write 92.6 but this is also wrong because I made a mistake on the gpf score (I also included WTT) LP average: so it actually comes to 92.08 (-1.7) *goes to edit the OP* Thanks for pointing is out! Also, welp that means this season is the only one where he had a pcs dip
  5. Great stats. The upward trend in scores is not surprising because of all the tech he's added. What would be interesting to see as welll is stats on margin of victory (i.e. indication of dominance in the field). If he won gold, by how many points vs silver and bronze? If he won silver by how many points did he miss out on gold and win over bronze? Any noticeable trends on the margins? Another interesting stat to see would be increase in average score vs. BV. How much of the increase was from tech and how much from average better execution? 2010-11 SP BV: 36.50 SP average score: 73.73 LP BV: 79.39 LP average score: 140.87 2011-12 SP BV: 41.90 (+5.4) SP Average score: 78.35 (+4.63) LP BV: 79.85 (+0.46) LP Average score: 160.5 (+19.64) 2012-13 SP BV: 43.96 (+2.06) SP Average score: 87.77 (+9.42) LP BV: 87.71 (+7.86) LP Average score: 168.48 (+7.98) 2013-14 SP BV: No Change SP Average score: 93.72 (+5.95) LP BV: 90.12 (+2.41) LP Average score: 180.23 (+11.75) 2014-15 SP BV: 44.36 (+0.4) SP average score: 90.14 (-3.57) LP BV: 90.62 (+0.5) LP average score: 176.84 (-3.38) 2015-16 SP BV: 47.15 (+3.09) SP average Score: 99.47 (+9.33) LP BV: 95.19 (+4.57) LP Average score: 195.70 (+18.86) 2016-17 SP BV: 49.75 (+2.6) SP Average score: 93.90 (-5.5) LP BV: 103.43 (+8.24) LP Average score: 195.85 (+0.15) Average PCS scores (this is excluding Nationals cuz I can't find the score cards) 2010-11 SP: 33.17 LP: 68.48 2011-12 SP: 36.72 (+3.55) LP: 79.15 (+10.67) <- !!!!! 2012-13 SP: 41.65 (+4.93) LP: 81.16 (+2.01) 2013-14 SP: 43.84 (+2.21) LP: 86.76 (+5.60) 2014-15 SP: 44.41 (+0.57) LP: 88 (+1.24) 2015-16 SP: 46.73 (+2.32) LP: 93.76 (+5.76) 2016-17 SP: 46.23 (-0.5) LP: 92.08 (-1.7) What this shows: a steady increase in BV is matched by PCS but the rise in PCS was pretty rapid, Yuzu has a comfy PCS cushion for when his TES goes sideways, even if tech issues are reflected in PCS. Average score increase is balanced between BV rise, PCS rise and GOE rise (program quality) but the sharp BV rise this season didn't exactly pay off - PCS is either a reflection of the problems he had with jumps or the judges' lack of enthusiasm for the programs (H&L is likely a bit of both) edited to fix math errors
  6. I just hope Yuzu has come to the realisation that these stupidly high standards FS commentators/writers/fans have for him are...stupid and should be ignored. No other skater is expected to skate perfectly every single time, no other skater is expected to hit new high scores every time they skate. It's bloody rediculous. tbh I think it did feed into the pressure he put on himself this season, I just hope he reached the point mentality where he knows they best he can do is train, try to go into a competition healthy, calm and do what he can. When Brian said 'trust your training', honestly I think that's the best advice. Errors are going to happen, but none of the programs are impossible to perform clean in competition, every part of it is something that has been trained.
  7. LMAO I imagined Yuzu huffing and going to his costume maker: Yuzu: "Apparently the white pants make my legs invisible so make them purple with a colour graduation so EVERY CONTOUR of my legs is enhanced" Costume maker: "Ummm are you sure you want to do that..." Yuzu: "Yes. Make them tight, make them bright, make sure the audience can see everything whether they want to or not "
  8. I really like the first one
  9. I don't mind the high standard, but ACI(gold)-->SC(silver)-->NHK(gold)-->GPF(gold)-->4CC(silver) is not sliding into irrelevancy. Lol it's ridiculous that anyone would look at this season and think Yuzu is sliding into irrelevancy. His Gold-to-Silver ratio for 2013-14, 2015-16, 2016-17 are exactly the same (except 2013-14 he did more competitions and I'm ignoring WTT). The competition is getting tighter but Yuzuru is far from irrelevant. He's not at the stage where anyone can reasonably think he won't make the podium for any given competition and he hammered that home at WC - even if he's 5th after the short you still have to assume he's taking a medal home Wow, thanks for this analysis! It really shows how FS progressed during last few years and of course how Yuzu is getting stronger and stronger. Bonus! Average BV increase for SP: +2.2 Average BV increase for LP: +4 Biggest BV increase for SP: +5.4 (White legend->Étude) Biggest BV increase for LP: +8.24 (Seimei -> Hope and Legacy) Total BV Increase for SP (White Legend->LGC): +13.25 Total BV increase for LP (Zigeurwissen->H&L): +24.04 I suppose another way to look at his growth would be to figure out his average PCS scores but....can I be bothered to look up every scorecard for every competition since 2010.......
  10. Yes yes, It's really amazing, having the top two skaters in a same place is never easy, it's always bound to be dramatic but thankfully we don't have to worry about that, my poor heart wouldn't be able to stand too much drama  It is a miracle there is no drama between them. It's a magical combo of Javi being a nice guy, Yuzu being a nice guy, and the training team at TCC obviously being real careful to not favour anyone and focus on the skaters as individuals more than the skaters in comparison to the opponents in competition. Brian seems to be really careful in his coaching approach to keep a kind of situation/environment where competing skaters can be friendly.
  11. Random: so in creating my Figure Skating Notebook of Doom I noted Yuzu's results through seniors and worked out his season averages. - through his senior career so far, he's won gold 49% of the time and silver 28% of the time. In the past 3 seasons (2014-15~present) he's won gold 58% of the time, whereas in the first half of his senior career (2010~2014) he won gold 42% of the time, half of which were achieved in the 2013-14 season. - His season average has been on an upward trend every season except 2014-15 and 16-17 (tho his LP average went up by 0.15 this season, his overall average was down by 5.42. His overall average for 2014-15 was down by 6.95) - the difference between his average combined score from 2010-11 and 2016-17 is 75.14 (the difference is sp average is 20.17 and lp is 54.98) - Each season his scores increase by an average of: +3.4 for SP, +9.2 for LP and +12.5 for combined scores (rounded to 1dp) - His highest season average increases were 2015-16 (when compared with previous season +9.33 sp +18.86 Lp +28.17 combined, if compared to the 2013-14 season it's +5.75 sp +15.75 lp and +21.23 combined) 2011-12 (+19.64 for lp +24.30 combined) and 2012-13 SP (+9.42) Ah figure skating, the thing that makes me do maths even though I hate maths.
  12. The other difference between the flip and the lutz in the lz is counter-rotated, the curve of entry and the curve of exit is the same for the flip but not the lutz which is why the lutz is harder and worth more points. I'm assuming a wrong edge flip and lutz will still have the same general rule, so a lutz with an inside edge will still have to exit on the opposite curve to the entry to still be a lutz and not a flip? I could be wrong but the edge isn't the only difference between flip and lutz. And yeah the flip usually has a really short set-up while the lutz is a bit longer. Yuzu has a real short lutz entry compared to other skaters. I'm not great at recognising flips, i typically just think 'was it a real short entry and i dunno what it was? probably a flip' XD typically with the flip the toe-pick leg sorta swings back while with the lutz the toe-pick leg is extended back as the skater sets in on a running edge. I feel like I'm okay at recognising Yuzu's jumps but will get totally lost watching other skaters except for obvious ones like axel and loop. Yuzu sometimes messes me up with his toe-loop-disguised-to-look-like-a-salchow XD
  13. depending on the level, lvl 4 stsq would have x0.7 factor so the max GOE is 2.1; while lvl3 stsq would only have a factor of x0.5 thus the max GOE is 1.5. ahhhhhh i was confused about this too because the isu pdf with all the goes values doesnt seem to have it factored *adds this too my notebook of doom*
  14. Thank you so much for such a great explanation! So, do I understand correctly, that choreo has a BV + GOE (is it up to +3 as for jumps?) and for steps the BV depends on the levels and then the judges award GOEs? yep so for the stsq the levels are B, 1, 2, 3, 4 with B being it doesnt even meet the minimal variety of steps (less than 5 different steps and turns) and 4 having complexity (11 turns and steps), the base values and 1.5, 1.8, 2.6, 3.3, 3.9 from B~4 then the highest GOE is 1.5 for +3. Choreo sequence has a BV of 2 and highest GOE is 2.1 for +3
  15. I'm till learning so someone can correct me if I'm wrong~ Choreo sequence is a bit easier to understand cuz there's no levels on it, it can be any number of steps or transitional moves in any pattern, it should have good ice coverage and should be recognisable, it can include non-listed jumps. GOE is given for good energy, execution, clarity/precision, good commitment of the whole body, creativity, appearing effortless, enhancing the musical structure and the character of the program. Step sequence levelling is harder to spot unless you recognise steps and turns (I...am getting there, I know what steps there are but can't really recognise them) but level 4 must have at least 11 difficult steps and turns, rotations CW and CCW covering at least 1/3rd of the patterns, use of full body movement for at least 1/3rd of the patterns, and at least 2 combinations of difficult turns on different feet with a clear rhythm. It can be any patterns but should have good ice coverage. GOE is given for similar qualities as the choreo sequence. to tell them apart, the stsq will have more foot work and the chsq will have more things like lunges, hydroblading, ina bauers etc.
  16. Like many, I watched the sochi olympics singles event and loved him haha I wasn't interested in figure skating but out of the winter olympic events it's the only one I wanted to watch, my family watched all of the figure skating events out of casual interest. I didn;t like some of the performances because they were a little dull and like they were just going through the motions but then Yuzu came out and performed PW and he was so refreshing with so much personality and charm I couldn't help but to root for him! I didn't keep up with him afterwards other than the occasional youtube video or something, but I knew vaguely what he was up to (getting WC, the COC accident etc) and i was mostly wrapped up with work and other fandoms but this year I got bored with my main fandom and because of YOI suddenly a lot of FS stuff was coming on my SNS feeds so I started getting more involved in following skating. since 4CC was in Korea and I could go, I got a ticket and started trying to learn more about fs so i'd know what i was watching and finally got sucked in haha If I had discovered FS fandom earlier I would've been sucked in much earlier :space:
  17. dunno if it was ~the start~ but when I was helping archive stuff I found an interview from 2012/13(?) where Brian says he thinks Yuzu will do 4A 'soon'. So I blame him. Idk with the quad race going wild and Yuzu having been throwing out he wants to do a 4A for years, and Boyang doing the 4lz other skaters are bound to start thinking about it too...
  18. I will bring it up and we'll try to find a solution. In the meantime, if you wish, you can deactivate the display of signatures in your profile: User Control Panel, Board preferences, Edit display options, Display signatures: no  Thanks for the reply! Just as I posted I remembered that forums usually have such option and switched it to "no". At the same time it's sad to deactivate them at all because I really love many signatures. It's just the size of some which is bit overwhelming. >> I shrunk it If it's still too big let me know i'll either shrink it some more or just delete it. I'm just playing around I don't want to bother anyone
  19. To be honest, it would be boring if Yuzu had Evgenia's (freakish) consistency (It's enough that there is one person dominating ladies, singles would be a snooze if Yuzu dominated in the same way) and part of the reason he doesn't is because he's constantly upgrading and improving and trying more and more difficult programs. Even if next season he isn't adding the 4lz you know he'll be packing his programs with ever more difficult transitions and stuff. If he was doing just what he was comfortable with and just enough to get level 4s on everything, then he likely would be way more consistent, but his style is to go above and beyond
  20. thank you! I assume that at the end when they say 'if he hadnt won WC we'd be questioning if he can deliver under pressure because he hasn't for three years' they mean the two years he hadn't managed to get gold at worlds, despite managing to maintain GPF gold...but, those two years had issues, 14-15 was just...a mess of a season full of injuries and 15-16 he had a major injury when it was time for worlds...in which case it wasn't a problem with delivering under pressure. Though I guess that was the question forming through the season since he had the pressure of the previous season and the weight of next season looming over him... But Helsinki was a nice little reminder to the reckless youth that even if they have higher BV and even if he bombs his short, he can win because he is that much better than everyone else on the feild.
  21. Yuzu's puppy eyes are on another level... He could ask me to ruin my life and I'd at least consider it if he looked at me like that.
  22. Jinabee we want to see it, please post the link here ahahaha I was wondering how you'd check for them! banner attempts!: http://jina-bee.tumblr.com/post/1602606 ... nyu-banner here's the drawing i did for it too hahaha: http://jina-bee.tumblr.com/post/160260986908/ta-dah
  23. I posted one haha I'm not great at this stuff but it was fun to do a drawing in photoshop for it
  24. Random but today I was at a art thing and I bought a pin and thought of you guys~ It's a space kitty! And I chose the closest to Pooh colours :3 Edit: I think the picture is messing up the forum so I deleted it
