  1. Whoa this sounds so weird, I guess I'm not used... (tbh I find re-enacting cringey even when I don't know the real people involved because it always comes across as kind of fake and over-dramatised... and I find many japanese doc I have seen, Yuzu's included, over dramatised, tho I'm getting used to that kind of narration) With Yuzu being pretty much alive and kicking and events being so fresh it feels it has particular cringey potential....I suppose this is what happens when the guy gives media no juicy footage of those months 😑 only hints hints hints...ngl, I can emphatize with the desire to "see" what happened, heck, I wanna know too But idk, it's so weird that someone will "play" his character, mainly because it's about something that still feels like the present to me... I only hope it will be respectful of Yuzuru, his words and his feelings
  2. I think it was David, that nape and hair looks more his than Brian's....iirc in the video the hair looked a bit on the greysh/fair colour, while Brian has (had?) darker hair....tho, why on earth do all those men have similar hair cut? jeez, those guys should make it easier for fans to recognize their napes or are they helping us hone our detective skills for when Wild!Yuzu appears in other people sns? iirc even in the video we couldn't see the man's face... there was another snippet where Yuzu sat down with Brian (knelt?) next to him, but it could be another moment. If you watch Brian and David side by side at the start of Yuzu's FS you see the difference in hair colour. At 0.15 there is a clear view of Brian's profile, too, and at 6.53 Brian's back. And my quest is getting really creepy so I'll stop also, LOL we've already been thorugh this debates some time ago, it makes me feel proud I am now a senior fan LOL
  3. can I steal other people's suggestions? LOL My bets/crazy-but-I-want-to-see-Zu-pull-this-off: SP: some Latin or tango thingy with tons of snap (I SO want to see if Yuzu can do that too) or something Jazzy, but please don't ask me to name a song. Suggestion by Jeff, Yuzu and all of us will go "really???" but then he will prove everyone and himself he can do it. Choreo by Jeff, of course. Crazily fast stsq incomig (please Zu don't trip) and some new #IconicPose (after pistol pose, zusaaa and the sensual IB) FS: something chosen by Zu, epic/dramatic with some soft moments from some score from some film or so. Choreo by the lovely Shae. OMG they will have to sacrifice the InaBauer or the hydroblade nuoooooo EX: I would so love something upbeat and fun, but I'm betting on the SP for that and Worlds will be in Japan so for EX I'd bet on some soft japanese tune that will make me melt in a puddle. Choreo by ????????, maybe Kenji again, or some other choreographer. ngl, I'd be shocked if Yuzuru changes choreographers for any of his programs but at the same time I'm curious to see what kind of programs he can have working with other people... ah I've never witnessed the very important NEW programs reveal, I'm sooooo excited
  4. Mmh I suppose my live-feelings of OMG!whattheheckgoshNO! influenced my perception then, I haven't rewatched that performance (so he did pop one jump instead of going over the boards, whew, I had forgotten)
  5. Like @hoodie axel said, I read Boyang had not trained a lot (or at all I mean, no SP runthrough before official practice in Milan, wut o_O) between Olys and Words, and tbh in the Kiss&Cry he looked as if he wasn't surpised he had bombed (the opposite of how crushed Vincent was, for example). It's true he had some more expectations to shoulder as a serious podium contender (possibly as the only Chinese man in Milan, too, who had to grab the spots), but he looked a thousand times more emotional at Olys, tbh. Maybe, as he said, he was too "relaxed" going into Worlds, as if he didn't feel he needed to do his "absolute best" there....(tho idk if we can trust his words, we know *someone else* who refuses to make excuses for his bad outings and blames his "mindset" only, so I hope Boyang is ok. He looks ok in his off-season stuff). imo it's crazy that in Worlds FS he didn't pop those quads, it must have felt like driving down a cliff without hitting the brakes, I almost covered my eyes because it was really scary to see I think he needs to train in smaller rinks so when he's in a bigger rink his jumps will have some more room to spare...jk I read TCC rink is a bit smaller than olympic size rinks? *me subtly sending hints* ETA imo he kinda gave up, as if he accepted jumps just weren't going to work (but still during Cantina theme he tried to sell the program, I thought he was back on tracks but then...not really)
  6. But PCS also include technical elements so maybe those judges could focus on things like edges, change of direction and so on plus how well upper body works and if all of this fits the music etc.. things like steps and turns can be the technical and "concrete" elements to analyse one after the other to keep judges focused, and at the same time they don't need to compute the scores for each one of them right then, right there separately so they can also look at the global picture... I haven't tried the mock judging myself but just yesterday I was watching skaters I had never seen before and I focused on their feet and while some programs did feel boring to me, my mind was still quite busy assessing the footwork and speed and carriage (LOL I wasn't naming steps and turns live, I'm not that good yet, at all, but I was comparing with how skaters I know move). I think there is enough to evalue in the quality and quantity of movements, so judges would be able to stay focused, imo, but without feeling overwhelmed with their tasks as they are now, when they have to assess so many different things at once...maybe
  7. oh no, my fave wild child still nothing confirmed about the new coaching arrangement for Polina? She had such bad bad luck, and if she's been abused by her coach because of her body type and healt issues...I have no words. Wow. Nice article form Hersh and nice words form Orser. So it is true that this things can be arranged really quickly with TCC But back problems also? Poor Zhenya ETA: that shade about not gonna hide her lutz in a corner tho... well, maybe TAT bought herself time so she could prepare that humoungous interview jokes aside, she did a sensible thing waiting to hear what both sides had to say. Sensible choice , I'm happy Zhenya got her blessing too. Also, @Lilona thank you for bringing so many russian sources here Re: Boyang in Toronto? Lori is in Toronto, right? What are the chances Boyang is only going to work with her and never say hi to TCC? I don't want to get my hopes up, this off season has already given me enough rollercoasters to last for a few months...or years plz Brian, I know you have your hands full rn but how EPIC it would be to have Boss Tian wildin' for a teeny tiny while with your other no chill kids? Anyway, TCC is gonna be quite crowded next season and under the scrutiny of so many Feds not to talk about fans talk about a cosmopolitan environment they could have some UN meeting there
  8. Re: Zhenya moving to TCC so it is done now, and while just 3 days ago I would have said "no way in hell that split and move can happen" now I am really happy, and even happier for Zhenya's maturity in realesing such a wise statement. I believe her when she says that she wants to keep growing, and while she did improved on ss in this last season, TCC has a lot to give her in that department, and more choreograhers to challenge her with different programs. Hopefully she will be able to improve the quality of her jumps too, but of course the most important thing now is for her to complete her rehab properly (Yuzuru I'm looking at you too) and slowly rebuilt from there and get her jumps back. TCC has (sadly) tons of experience in handling injured skaters and help them get their jumps back... I'm crossing my fingers for Zhenya and TCC, and, as one of my teachers would always say, ad maiora! (to greater and greater things) tho allow me a moment to mourn over my almost certainly shattered dream of Wakababy going to TCC
  9. Yay this is happy news day! happy Yuzu is the best Yuzu and hopefully he will have tons of fun and enjoy skating for the crowds at all ice shows! as long as he takes it easy and doesn't go around showing off jumps he shouldn't do but I trust he has learned his lesson and won't do anything that would make (more of) Brian's hair fall😅 poor man deserves a bit of rest from the drama Also sorry I'd like a collab with the one (1) kind spanish man even sbs stroking exercises would be enough, I'm still salty about Jackie Wong gushing over that sbs oly practice and cameraman freaking cutting most of Yuzu and another collab with his fanboys...and a program with Misha/Misha choreo/both...and original Seimei stsq...and a new program....and H&L stsq...and and and ok whatever, as long as he skates and is happy
  10. RE: Zhenya & Eteri *looks at her shattered rose-coloured glasses* I do agree that Eteri's flame sounds like coming from a mixture of pride, hurt and a perceived deep, deep "betrayal". Heck, I can even feel sorry for her, apparently she can't get past her hurt and so she turns spiteful and aggressive and it's just sad. But wth, with all her past experiences she still can't sit down for a while, let the hurt cool off and rein herself? Probably acting tough and spitting fire helped her to survive and become successful, but as an adult and a coach her attacking Zhenya like that is wrong, it doesn't even matter how entitled to her anger and hurt she is... if she is, at all. Possibly yes, in part. But so is Zhenya, who went through what for her was a nightmare of a season and pushed herself to her limits only to find it wasn't enough. I do believe the injury/recovery managment wasn't ideal. Not that TCC has always been successful in that department either, but this past season there were so many parallels between the two clubs and even if medals at Olys say Eteri did slightly better, TCC really set an example at how to keep a "good" rivalry and a supportive environment amidst all kind of s**t (repeatedly) happening all season long. Now I can only hope Zhenya will keep being the mature one (kudos to her for what she's done till now!) and I pray someone can help Eteri to learn dealing with disappoiments in a more mature wau, for her own good and that of the people around her. Lashing out certainly is a perfectly human trait, but so it is the ability to take time to cool off and re-think and analyse things calmy and rationally and rein the emotions. I hope after this storm Zhenya will find the quiet and support she needs to bounce back better than before Re: Polina I hope the rumour of Eteri gutting her chances to skate elsewhere isn't true Re: Misha working with Raf I am bit perplexed, imo he would benefit more from some help in the mentality department more than in the tech. Nathan's relative "consistency" with his quads looks like a combo of (relatively) smaller jumps and easy entry and less "tiring" skating between elements, Misha is quite different... can he learn to jump smaller? Unless Misha wants to bring back the flip, than maybe it could be good to have a technician help him there and watch Nathan's correct edge F
  11. locked for me too ETA working now
  12. OMG what if she's learning to troll already?????
  13. Re: Zhenya Whoa I am...so surprised? I mean, of course I knew about the rumours and I was following the whole social media drama but I still thought it couldn't be Call me naive, but if I really had had to bet my money on a split, I would have bet on an amicable split, not all this...drama I don't understand, they always looked a solid team and Eteri was hugging her and comforting her after her silver in PC (and people where complaining about Alina being neglected). What's happened behind the scenes? Argh, I'm dying to know, too bad we might not know like EVER (same with some other notorious post-oly splits) Anyway, after the first-moment shock, I'm actually quite thrilled It's possible Zhenya felt that she needed to leave her nest and spread her wings (I really hope it was only something like that, tho it clashes with the whole social media drama) hopefully this split will make her land to a coach that will take her skating to the next level. I wish her all the best if it's true Zhenya will join TCC...idk, it feels weird to me idk, it's just my feeling, tho it would also be kind of funny. Personally I'd be happier for a Boyang or Wakababy joining TCC, mainly because imo TCC can offer what they need, like good packaging, lots of different specialists, for SS, spins etc (and maybe a bit of PCS boost that they could hardly get otherwise). Maybe Zhenya would benefit the most from a coach like Raf...but Zhenya is a tough girl and clearly had all of this planned, and she made the bomb blow while she is on holiday(? is she? I've read this somewhere) and dropping cryptic "hello" tweets all of a sudden, so I trust that she knows what's better for her Anyway, I'm excited about which kind of programs she can have, when working with different choreographers, with (maybe) a different approach to skating Also, ugh, I really hope there won't be any ugly bashing/shipping, I wish all fans could be reasonable and keep their own personal fantasies separated from reality and real lifepeople And I really wish all yuzu fans could bear in mind what he said about reading nasty things and act rationally towards other skaters OMG this is too hilarious (but yeah, RIP Brian's hair)
  14. I think I know which video you're talking about the sequence was Waltz-1A-3A (+high kick) https://www.instagram.com/p/BNxblU9hiAr/?utm_source=ig_embed Btw, while searching for the right video I found this one too https://www.instagram.com/p/BOboHM5h8Qx/?utm_source=ig_embed and this (Javi's music the jump is at the end, on Shoma's Piantao it looks like PW 4T tho ) https://www.instagram.com/p/BOfw9WXhCE8/?utm_source=ig_embed
  15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE PLANET!!!! Thank you, Yuzu, for bringing all of us together! And lots of hugs and thank you to everyone who makes this place so lovable! Also, thank you for the Planet birthday banner! I’ve been playing catch up with this thread for a while and somehow I always woke up with 50 pages left to read LOL but I've made it in time for today, yay! there were a lot of serious mood swings in the past pages and I love it! This thread is a bit crazy, a bit extra, a rollercoaster of emotions, just like Yuzu! So far the off-season feels more lit than the season tbh, but I’m not complaining. I’m very happy Yuzuru is going to be in FaoI, he will get the chance to play and joke with other skaters, be a dork, soak a little more in the love of the fans... and gift us with more smiles!!! Finally, to celebrate the day, it's worth reposting this fanvid. Everyone, let's squeal and laugh a bit at our #LifeOfAFanyu (also, the Planet gets a special mention!)
  16. oooh as an Italian it makes me proud by proxy that their commentaries are liked and translated (while some of my compatriots' words make me *cough* Sonia Bianchetti *cough*) while it's true that some (many?) commentators and journalists might use Yuzu's name because of his popularity, Max and Angelo are NOT among them. They have been praising Yuzuru since he was very young, way before he was famous (and when other commentators couldn't even get his name right). They praised his skating skills (and components in general) in 2012 Nice FS commentary, comparing him to someone like Daisuke Takahashi who had back then a (deserved) reputation for deserving good PCS. Just sticking with the same competition, for example Rai commentators said Daisuke still was miles ahead than Yuzuru in components (just because Daisuke was Daisuke, they didn't go in depth about the different components, while Max and Angelo talked about the different components and of course recognized Yuzu was still weaker in some of them, which, given the age difference, was to be expected). For most commentators Yuzuru was "the future" back then, but for Max and Angelo he was already pretty much in the same league of the big guys. And then we can also talk about the London 2013 FS. That was far far far form Yuzu's best showing (or best program), but they recognized the qualites that skate had. Everytime Yuzuru had less than stellar skates, they have been supportive (and tbh they are always supportive of every skater on a human level. That's what happens when you know how hard all skaters work) and they have NEVER EVER dismissed Yuzuru, not even when he wasn't winning. I kinda LOL everytime I re-watch their Helsinki FS commentary and Max states: "If he has the skate he has in mind, he can WIN this competition". This while everyone else thought Yuzuru would be lucky to even podium Max respects Yuzuru a lot, both as a skater and as a person (he gushed about off-ice Yuzuru a lot too. And being a huge nerd of the sport himself, I guess he relates a lot to Yuzu being a FS nerd too) AND he views Yuzuru as the golden standard in the sport he writes about. So why wouldn't he mention him a lot? That fan has no reason to think that Max only tweets about Yuzuru to get likes.
  17. Whoa I got a Worlds Prediction bronze medal I feel a bit like Wakababy and J/C, finally efforts paid off! tho Alina and Caro and Boyang really tried hard to make me sink but Shoma and Nathan saved me! And Wakababy a bit too! But most of all ID and PAIRS I was so afraid I'd jinx Aljona&Bruno and J/C but they made it Congrats to all top 5! and to those who bombed...been thereI feel you
  18. @¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Joey was giving GOE like judges would (so using range -3 +3 on every element) and I guess then factorized them to get the final score. I made a quick calculation and those factored goe for Yuzu are indeed about 26, as Joey wrote the factoring for 3A and positive goe on quads is 1, for negative goe on quads is >1 tho (so -3 from judges becomes a -4, so mistakes on quads weight a bit more). On triples (not 3A) +1 is 0.7 and +3 is 2.1 and iirc same for stsq and spins... Solo double and single jump have different factoring too
  19. but Kaori has a team that can package her really well (and actually understands the current scoring system). In time she will become more refined and she has already improved during the season (tbh the only thing she lacks is the push of the fed to raise her pcs ) But I love her with Mai, I don't want to see them separated, they are obviously helping heach other so much I am already too excited about the rumour of Wakababy going to TCC, I'll be disappointed if it doesn't turn true If Wakaba goes, can we rename TCC as the Axel Club? I am a bit out of the loop and still recovering from Milan (yes, I'm superslow), but I saw lots of rumours floating around. What is this thing about Marin? And I heard Didier Gailhaguet wants P/C to leave Marie-France and go to Marina Zueva? Of course Marina is a great coach too, but I'd be sorry if they were forced to change their coaches because of that man *now off to catch up with other skaters' threads* (I'm dreading to catch up with the Gen Yuzu Chat tbh) now a bit of ranting time @¯\_(ツ)_/¯ <whole post > I agree! I'll be forever salty for Yuzuru's 4CC 2017 and WC 2017 SP 3A that didn't get full +3 (while other 3As with easier entry and exit and less gorgeous in general got full +3 from ALL the judges... I'm not saying those 3As didn't deserved those +3, but if they get +3 than Yuzu's 3A should have got +4 at least, and that some judges gave +2 is an insult. At least this season Yuzuru always got +3 on his SP 3A... maybe finally ISU held a seminar to show that counter-3A is freaking harder than a single SE into 3A) I'll forever be salty for Yuzuru's undescored WR in Helsinki. And I'll forever be salty when I see jumps prepared for the whole length of the rink and no flow out get +2, when Yuzuru has to kill himself on crazy entries if he wants to get the same and the smallest flaw results in goe being knocked down. And I'll forever be salty about the US judge's score at Olympics, too. I don't doubt Yuzuru enjoys killing himself on crazy entries, it is how he conceives jumps, as part of the choreo, but still...it should be reflected in scores properly. It's the comparison that drives me mad. I mean, there are objective bullets that judges should consider but one could say: this judge is really strict, for him/her a jump needs to be Boyang size to receive the bullet for good height/distance, or have multiple counters to hit the difficult entry bullet... but then you see the same judge gifting +2 for flawed jumps (flawed technique or hitting no bullets) AND, on top of that, also tech panels forgetting to be as strict with other skaters' elements as they are on Yuzuru's (or Boyang) and that can't be explained if not with blatant double standards. For how nice Yuzuru is, I'm sure he is pissed looking at some protocols, but the only thing he can do is not to leave room or reason to judge to underscore him. Hit 7 or 8 bullets if 6 aren't enough. Do bigger jumps, with better flow, more intricate footwork. True, he works double to get the bare minimum he deserves, but hopefully he takes pride in making his elements better every single time. more useless and repetitive rant under spoiler, so you can skip it btw has the Ari Zakarian interview been posted here yet? I'm a bit confused about what I read here and what I read on twitter
  20. Thank you for clarifying. I don't follow Daisuke closely and of course I have to rely on translations from jpn interviews, so I have to trust translators and their interpretation heck, even my own views and expectation can influence the way I interpret other people's words when I'm reading those translations The only direct "impression" I can have about him is from watching his facial expression and the tone of his voice as he speaks of other skaters and to me it always felt like genuine admiration. Anyway, I wonder if there will ever be the chance to see Patrick and Yuzuru share the same ice again. I think Patrick isn't often invited in Japanese ice shows (or has he ever been invited in the last years?) and who knows if Yuzuru will ever tour in NA shows...it's such a pity Patrick and Yuzu (and Javi) have been there for so many years, sharing the ice in GP and Worlds and Olympics and I think that Patrick was the only non-yet-retired male skater who could somehow understand the pressure of being on top of the world, the kind of expectations that Yuzuru has faced each competition since Sochi, and how it feels like when you fail to meet those expectations (imo Javi's experience and pressure was a bit different, he was and still is the one to beat in Europe but I don't know if he has really felt that the whole world expected and demanded him to be always perfect, or if he's gone into any WC touted as the overwhelming favourite) It's a bit sad that the era of Patrick Vs Yuzuru has ended sorry for bringing the gloominess
  21. Last round, yay! So, who should I jinx this time? jk Ok, if Nathan loses he'll know who to blame But hey, I'm just being fair, I've predicted Shoma gold for GPF and Nathan silver, now I'm doing the opposite, I call this fair jinxing I'm feeling rather optimist abou jpn ladies but I'm feeling bad for leaving Kaetlyn out of podium...but hey, at Olympics she did well and upset my predictions big time, so...maybe I bring her luck? Pairs: Vanessa & Morgan, please grab a medal please (nooo I'm still sad S/K had to WD from Worlds too) I'm mostly excited about ladies and pairs tbh
  22. Warning: incoming boring wall-text Strage enough, I've come to appreciate Patrick and his skating only after I learned to pay attention to the lower body and I learned more about figure skating. At first I thought he merely was a sore loser but he looks like a likable and funny guy when he's not talking to the press and I think he can be proud of the contribute he gave to the sport (including being one of the "walls" Yuzu had to overcome and giving him many kuyashii canadian silver medals LOL). I think CBC commentators often give a bit of perspective on how hard it has been for Patrick to come back in 2015 and suddenly find out the world hadn't stopped while he was away (on the contrary, it was racing ahead and leaving him behind). To miss the world and gpf podiums must have been hard to swallow... (more so, I think, after winning over Yuzuru in his comeback competition. I bet it made Patrick a bit cocky) Mind you, I have not read all of Patrick's interviews nor watched all his competitions, so I could be wrong, but IMO Patrick's big "limit" was that he did not lost soundly in the quad leading to Sochi (last gpf aside). He knew he could have the edge in his tes and pcs and he thought his nerves would magically hold on the biggest stage, when in fact he had messed in many of his biggest competitions in the couple of years before Sochi, when he was facing the pressure of being The One to beat (tho he still won some of them). In retrospective, I don't think he had the same hunger for gold that shaped Yuzuru's whole career, and that reflected in his mindset toward competitions and competitors (for example, I'd think the first thing one who goes to "battle" does is to check what the heck his opponents are doing...) Imo part of the reason why Patrick has been able to (finally!) recognize Yuzuru's qualities is that he has made peace with himself not being the top guy anymore (and maybe olympic team Gold played a part too), tho somehow he even manages to turn his praises to others into a praise of his own character development tbh it made me a bit sad that someone who Yuzu so clearly admired and respected (and who had pushed him to get better) couldn't muster half a nice word for him...so it was very nice to see a bit of friendliness and Patrick's recent words are more than I could hope tbqh Daisuke T. has also admitted recently that only now he is a commentator he is able to really appreciate the strenght of all skaters instead of being defensive and focusing on the flaws (thus imo reassuring himself that he was good enough to face his competitors). In different ways Patrick and Daisuke's attitude kind of clash with the open and challenging mindset Yuzu has. Each one of those is human and understandable (I am quite the Daisuke type tbh) but I can't help but think that Yuzuru's attitude is a better example for all the young skaters to always appreciate what everyone can give to the sport and work on constantly improving themselves (and it can keep them humble and grounded). And I also think that there isn't better ambassador for the Olympic values (and for figure skating) than Yuzu, just like he also is a wonderful expression of how one can love his country and respect his cultural roots while also learning from other people and other cultures. Aaaand this ended in a OT shameless gushing over Yuzuru Re: "Sochi Patrick Vs. Yuzu" like "PC Yuzu vs Nathan" While there are some parallels (age, the current number one vs the young prodigy) it is worth noting that: 1) after being the leader of the change, Patrick became blind to the change itself. On the contrary, Yuzu had seen it coming years ahead and, tho maybe some things happened faster than he thought, he was ready to the challenge. He only had particularly bad luck because all his injuries slowed down his technical advancement of at least a season/a season and half (but if we count all the off ice time, regaining his jumps and rebuilding stamina, it could as well be two whole seasons tbh). And even with that he is one of the few guys in the world who landed 4 different types of jumps in competition, and the older one (and the only one who can do up to 4Lo out of steps. I still haven't seen the same from the quad boys, not with the harder jumps). So much for being "technically behind". 2) Yuzuru might not be the one out- jumping everyone rn, but he is the best jumper quality-wise. Currently he gets the highest goe and he does so while actually checking all the bullets. His goe could already eat part of the gap with Patrick's pcs pre-Sochi. Patrick had great 4T (planned in combo in the SP, so not really out of steps), no 4S, better 3F but way worse and unreliable 3A. Yuzuru had a more airy 4T (also out of steps in sp), 4S bv and an uncomparable 3A. He did many of his jumps and combo with transitions in and out. Plus he had better spins imo (tho score-wise they were comparable). His chsq was an actual chsq. No judge would have ever given him any +2, let alone +3, for a single spread eagle or cantilever. 3) back then Yuzuru didn't even receive all +3 on his axel tho it checked all the bullets. One could Tell he was rather underscored in goe (compared to what he would deserve by the rules). No candies for him, not in goe nor in pcs. And Javi was doing lots of quads back then, but his pcs hadn't risen to 9s because of that. Different era. Yuzuru had to actually work on pcs if he wanted to stay competitive. And his coach forced him to do so and suggested him to drop the Sal. The opposite of someone telling: yeah go for the quads boy, and: hey, th boy does a single spread eagle before one of his jumps, this is artistry, what else can you ask, he already does the quads! (rough gist off the top of my head of Raf's words about Nathan's FS last season... 4CC iirc) 4) back then, no youngster could dream of pcs comparable to those of veterans right off the bat. Yuzuru had to built his reputation over 4 years and he had already got a world medal in dramatic fashion (and conquered many hearts) at his world debut. Oh, and he had set a few world records too, so he had the points to beat a clean Patrick. It's likely Yuzuru didn't dream to completely close the pcs gap with Patrick tho, because literally NO ONE could back then, but only to reduce it so his total tes (bv+ GOE on ALL the elements, not only jumps) could place him ahead. Worth noting tho that people like Max &Angelo were advocating he was close to Daisuke in pcs (at least in some components) in Nice. That was before the TCC make-over on his skating skills 5) Yuzuru had actually beaten Patrick to gpf gold in both sp and fs. I'd think it has a different weight than a win with 2-3 (questionable) points of margin in the first gp of the season. 6) no one can legit say Yuzuru sacrificed choreo to jumps. His PW sp was wonderful, his RJ2 fs had stamina problems but had complex and nuanced choreo. Yes, he went for a bit more backloading than Patrick (and one more 3A) but he wasn't just skating around between the jumps. At the very least he was going for quality 7) Yuzuru's injury helped the narrative of the next big thing leading to PC. With him out, the young guns played their game and Nathan got a bit of a upper hand (tho Boyang was injured too). If we were to trust patterns (and Yuzuru quite sticks to his) it's quite possibile Yuzuru would have won gpf and put a wrench in the whole narrative. On the contrary, Gpf 2013 and Sochi Patrick was healty and well trained and leading to Sochi he was still the biggest favourite. He was still the favourite along with Yuzu after team SP. 8) in Sochi: Yuzuru didn't belonged to the holy trinity of figure skating (Canada, Usa, Russia) Patrick did. In PyeongChang: Yuzu still didn't belong to the holy trinity. Nathan did So even fed politics-wise, 2014 Yuzu was not on the same boat of 2018 Nathan Nathan (or his team) tried to channel the image of Yuzuru (program with modern vibe, upcoming prodigy, winner of gpf just like the last teenager OGM). Many expected to see history repeat (conveniently, they remembered only the most recent piece of history, forgetting that for a long while before Yuzuru the OGMs were all in their 20s) just because Nathan is young and promising and he has the potential (tho Yuzuru came into Sochi with more than potential and he was never touted as the biggest favourite for gold...and all the latest male OGMs had all been older, it was hard to bet on a mere teenager) but what happened proved that in Sochi the young prodigy won because he was Yuzuru Hanyu, not because of BV or age. People will have to wait at least for Beijing if they want to see another young gun win, and tbh right now it looks like the current crop of "young guns" won't make things easy for the next big thing (and tbh at the moment I can't still see the next big thing among current juniors)
  23. Re: new hypotetic goe factorization It's also possible they'll keep the different factorization for positive and negative goe on quads, so mistakes on quads will be punished more but a +5 won't make quads (those with higher bv in particular) totally and utterly unreachable... Also, tbh while I can see the sense of different goe factorization for different number of revolutions, I don't see why +3 on 4Lz should be much different from +3 on 4T. The difference in difficulty between 4T and 4Lz is already evalued in their different bv, to have positive goe linked to bv will only make the gap between different types of jumps bigger, regardless of their actual quality I thought that was NOT what ISU wanted... *gets ready for major meltdown when the new rules will be out*
  24. tbh I'm waiting for the day when someone will claim that Yuzu's axel technique is wrong...I mean, there MUST be something wrong if those 3A are so big and consistent and gorgeous, that ain't normal, obviously Yuzuru must be doing something really wrong, how dare he be that good? if he used other skaters's technique he would be struggling too, right? It's so unnatural, his technique just can't be right.... some people are so delusional, they are really shooting themselves attacking Yuzu's jumps, and lutz and Sal among all. ...like, seriously, are they really that desperate? But of course they are, wasting their lives being livid about someone else instead of making their lives worthy and joyful I am honestly amazed at how dedicated and inventive they are and Yuzu's only sin is that he is so good... Now back to more on-topic matters I thought the change of goe range and cut of men fs to 4.00 minutes was already confirmed, but we'll actually have to wait till June(?) for the official decision (and formulation), is that correct? But the new goe range was used in the test event iirc , plus that jpn judge addressed those changes in that talk show when talking about Yuzu's 4S, so I guess those changes will be confirmed. I'm actually more worried about the idea of changing the bv of jumps...without prior testing of how well new goe can actually work. Also, I was thinking if it's possible that they'll make incremental of positive goe by 0.5 ( eg: if there are 10 bullets in total, hitting one gives 0.5, hitting 5 results in 2,5...). Imo it would be quite useful, right now there is no chance to distinguish a 3 bullets jump from a 4 bullets one (of course, only if judges strictly assess the bullets for goe). I'd like the "it is recommended to score so and so when the jump satisfies x bullets" (non verbatim) will go away and become "if it hits a bullet, just score it like this". There is going to be already so much subjectivity, I'd like to know if judges are just having (big) troubles assessing bullets correctly or they just flat out disregard the guidelines... but I'm not holding my breath for that Finally, I wanted to say this, because this is actually the first thing who drew me to her: out of all the young (junior) skaters I've seen, boys and girls, actually the one reminding me of Yuzuru the most is wildchild Anastasia Tarakanova. There's just something in her skating, all unbridled fire and wilderness that reminds me of Yuzu's RJ1, unrefined but passionate and sincere. Actually, I felt the exact same emotion I felt when I watched Yuna Kim's Tango de Roxanne and made me like her instantly, and when Yuzu's Nice FS cemented my love for his skating in my early fanyu days. And the girl can jump! (Tho her air position sometimes bothers me) That's why, even tho I reckon Alena Kostornaia is a superior skater and I love love love her free skate and I reckon Sasha is freaking good and I love Rika's 3A and SP, little Nastya is actually the sentimental favourite among all my young favourites. I just see an enourmus potential, if she can harness that fire in the next years I hope she won't be hampered by puberty...or swallowed by the depth of Russian ladies' field And it looks like I like a certain kind of skater, powerful jumpers with some rawness in their early days....tho I also love grace and delicacy and I have a strange fixation for hands and fingers (I'm talking about what I'm drawn to instinctively, not what I can appreciate through knowledge and awareness of what it's really happening before my eyes)
