  1. tbh my main gripe with the no rep quad rule is that it reduces the freedom of skaters. Add the idiotic max 3 jump in FS and GOE proportional to BV and options become pretty limited. Till now you could have 2-quad guys going over 300. But with only 2 quads in the FS it won't happen (it would be a layout like the one Yuzu's had back in 2014, with one jump less). Some of the highest scores were, again, achieved with only 2 types of quads. Yuzu with just Sal and Toe still got more than 6 quads with Lz and F (and with repeated 4Lz other than 4F, everything else staying the same, Nathan would have be only slightly higher). And at Olys Yuzu could go for a challenging BV thanks to the chance of repeating quads. I shudder to think what he would have done with no quad rep allowed, he would have gone for the Lo at the very least even against a not threatening Nathan because Shoma even without 4S would have had one whole quad more. And multi-quadsters can change their layout if they are sick or injured but still keep competitive BV because they can replace their hard quad with another quad, thus minimizing the BV loss. Now it will be much much harder to let go ANY of their quads. And then there are skaters like Kolyada who replaced 4S with second 4T but now he won't have ANY choice at all, he'll need to go for both 4S and 4Lz unless he wants to stick to 1 quad only. Or let's say a skater has a lisfranc injury in his left foot, he can try and repeat quads that put a bit less strain on his left foot but now dropping one quad will be even less of a possibility because they can't exchange a quad for a quad, but only a quad for a triple. (Also, just checked and at worlds Kazuki did 4Sx2 but no 4T...so another guy who probably would like to repeat his reliable quad instead of going for a different one) And if you want to ensure more #variety, then the bonus for all 6 types of quads+triples made much more sense, because with this rule it's still possible for skaters to skip one type of jump (for example Shoma can still avoif the 3Lz, he doesn't even need to do the 4S to do that, or Kolyada with 4S 4T and 4Lz can still forget that the flip exists...tbh I think he could even forget the loop if he wanted...) Also, a bonus would be another push for ladies to go for all 6 types of triples, and it wouldn't be a selective rule for men only. It would also reward lower-tiers skaters with no quads but whole set of triples... I'm kind of accepting the "only last jump in SP get bonus" because, after all, skaters are all able to do more than one jump after 2 minutes into the FS, so it is "reasonable" that it's not that much more phisically exahusting to do 2 jumps in 2nd half (tho then one would ask why only a few do that) but I find the max 3 in the FS ridiculous. If you want to limit backloading, which apparently is the Worst Thing Ever and deserving to be prevented ASAP despite being still a rarity in Ladies's and completely non-existent in Men's, the Canadian proposal made much much much more sense, while still allowing skaters decent freedom with their layouts (freedom in the sense they have multiple strategies to garner around the same points, but 4-3 is what basically everyone can already do why should anyone want to challenge 3-4 or 2-5 if there is all to lose in doing that? Also me vs JSF I'm also extremely annoyed at Japan sabotaging its own skaters. E.g. both Shoma and Yuzu (but also others like Kazuki) have reliable 3A with good GOE they can backlload in SP and they can also backload a combo, so from their fed's stupid proposal they are going to lose the advantage they had by backloading 2 jumping pass (and I'm thinking that non-bonus Axel won't be "like" doing another quad anymore). Also, jeez JSF, you have a skater like Kaori who managed to consistently execute a fully backloaded SP, and other skaters enough technically sound to be able to backload more, at least in the SP (like Waka unless she jumps the 3A, or Satoko who has fairly stable jumps and could use a bit of BV to balance her low GOE, even if only by a fraction, but it could still matter against US skaters or skaters like Caro where the game can only be on BV because PCS is out of question with how judging works) and you do what? take away something they could get and that was not based on reputation And it's not like the upcoming Jr Russian girls won't be consistent if they start doing 3-4 layouts... this was the funniest thing and the comments in this thread were even better LOL But ISU is wise, you know, let's just skip USBs and use what the rest of the world is using...no physical support needed for music, so no more expenses form poor skaters to by a dedicated device, no risk of losing it, breaking it, stomping on by accident or forgeting to bring the right one (like Nathan in Milan practice), everything on cloud, so no risk there....but oh my, I guess that would make ISU freak out even more than poor risky USB sticks. Also, the whole debate about "sakters must skate in music" was just as funny, with people worrying if skaters can't skate when there are pauses in the music, and if voices are allowed and so on (also, skaters must skate on music and stop without, does it mean they can't stay still while music is playing? LOL) RE: no change in PCS factor about that I actually agree with both the decision and the reasoning I've said this already, but ISU already has a lot on its plate for next season between goe, bullets, bv and one jump less so at this point it's better to wait for that... tho that you can't change PCS only for Men but need to change for other disciplines too is really dumb, it's not like the PCS factorization is the same Re: no separated set of judges for GOE and PCS I didn't had much faith in that on ebeing approved tbw, I feel it's been suggested time and time again but apparently they don't care judges have to deal with a chaotic interface and with too little time for review and spend most of their time looking down at their screen instead of watching the skaters and hey, apparently they have even hard time at recognizing steps, how on heart is it possible they can judge both PCS and GOE? How are they supposed to evalue SS and TR if they only lift their nose for jumps? And can they see the mistakes at least? or those are controversial, too? this too, maybe even make the bonus higer for jumps done much later in the program. Right now in SP sakters would go for 2 jumps 1 spin last jump right after the half mark and it would not be as hard as going for the last jump after all the other elements, and and for FS it would be still more convenient to do all 3 backloaded jumping pass one after the other right after the half mark instead of doing like e.g. Kaori who had also other elements between the 2nd half jumps (or H&L 3 Lz at the very end of the program)... if you have to give the bonus to only a few jump, let's at least differentiate between very tìdifferent possibilities...
  2. I've put it in the to-do list (along with carrot cake and other things sitting there for a while whops) Some of the info are in the ForumRules already but tbh I think most of the pepole mostly stick to the Yuzu subforum so and INTRO there would probably reach more people (also it's likely forum rules&guidelines isn't the first thread a guest usually visits whops). We could link to some of the more relevant threads like the Compilations and the translation subforum, the skating chat (that sometimes gets lost), the forum rules and so on....(the glossary of course too) Even something titled "Where to find..." I've linked a few things on the glossary but of course it's not meant to be a map. I'm used by now to the Planet and I think things have been improving a lot but sometimes people still get lost searching for things like broadcasts or don't know there are those amazing compilations. Even that thread along the lines of 'what a fan has to absolutely see' could be linked, as there were many good suggestions there to fans who are just starting with their YouTube binge watching and have not dived yet into tumblr and translations... It's just that anything Yuzu-related soon gets out of hand (like the general chat LOL) @OonsieHui I've added in the introduction post a link to a google sheet, it's the easier way to keep the entries in alphabetical order even with new additions (for now it's read only). Sadly no Yuzumoticon there also the links I've added here on the thread are still missing there, but at least all the terms are there already if one isn't sure in which section to start searching otherwise I suggest the use of ctrl+F (yes, sometimes I get lost whops)
  3. sorry to barge in the middle of ACI talks so enviousssss but here some more requests for our beloved Glossary (yeah, I know there's still half stuff missing and I still haven't added many of the suggestions you gave me, I just have random thoughts popping in my head so asking in case I forget later) I would like: a visual example of squishy Yuzu face @xeyra can I add the warhorse bingo? and if yes could you link it to me? a VERY GOOD example of LGC hair has any of you a gif of a beautiful 4S3T at hand? I'm sure there was something else but I can't remember also, @Yatagarasu as you were asking about our beloved Nessie, maybe you could check if you like it Also, was it you the one who came up with the name? (also, when if Zu lands Nessie, I might move it to Iconic Yuzu figure skating moves) Sorry for the interruption and please go on
  4. I'm gonna steal this one
  5. I should also add YOLO, tho I feel the need to come up with a VERY GOOD definition
  6. omg thank you for that editorial remark it was meant as arm, but it came out as harm, maybe a freudian slip (Borser must have gotten inside my head) I'm sure there are more slips here and there, everytime I re-read I find something to fix then when I go to edit I've already forgotten what I had to fix so corrections are welcomed!
  7. @wingman I will add squad to glossary, basically what moonkat said, it's used for the young guns with lots of quads (and less whole package) and in particular those three who opened the BV race (Boyang started with 4Lz and 4quads, Shoma continued with 4F and Nathan with 5 and 6 quads) and have been podium contenders in the last 2-3 seasons and rose quickly through the ranks after their senior debut (Shoma and Boyang have the same age, Nathan is younger but all of them got a medal at a major competition like worlds or gpf their first senior season) ps: Yuzu got a medal in a big international competition his first senior season, tho 4CC isn't as prestigious as GPF as often feds send (or used to send) their second tier (tho Patrick went to 4CC several times and Japan usually sends top skaters e g. Daisuke T. and later of course Yuzu and Shoma). But he was way younger (he became senior with minimum age requirement iirc have turned 15 by July 1st of the year of debut). The only reasons I can think about Yuzu not being counted in the sQuad despite his multiple quads are 1) he is the definition of whole package, so to call him a quadster is a bit reductive 2) anagraphical, or more accurately that he's been around and winning in senior ranks for so long that people forget how young he is and dump him with the Uncles like Javi and Patrick (Yuzu is the awkward middle child LOL) You could say he's part of the "establishment" while sQuad are those who want to overtake it. Tho now they are shifting towards being the establishment themselves and new people will rise to challenge them Funny enough, Misha Kolyada isn't really part of the sQuad but he's often dumped in the "fresh and upcoming" group despite being only a couple months younger than Yuzuru
  8. I remember that too, so he sometimes goes out in Toronto and we know he's sometimes gone out for groceries too LOL. Also, iirc he's been to some park in Toronto, so maybe he's just more interested in nature than in buidings and streets (possibly nature he can easily reach from his home so not to detract precious time from all he has to do, between training and university and music and games, things he really enjoys). As for Niagara, I would go there asap but I am a sucker for everything involving water AND heights iirc Yuzu said he doesn't like heights, so Niagara falls with all the noise and the height could be very close to his nightmare...
  9. Finally! But I forgive them, they took the time to piece together a whole article instead of going for copy-paste like all the others! Mostly things they've already reported in other articles, but I quite like the piece! Good job Olympic channel! mandatory Pooh mention of Pooh but it fitted and they kept it as closing fluff (also what was the flower girl doing at the end of the Pooh rain video? o_O I've never paid attention) *ugly bawling* The montage of UA Zu Zu having fun, Zu being fierce, Zu winning...but the Zu thanking the ice and the audience is what really killed me Thomas Bergersen and Yuzu are always a good match Zuzu if you want to go for something epic but new you can search there too...oh wait, you've already chosen the music for next seasonbut maybe an EX, in the future...I can wait
  10. thank you, I'll add them to my to-do list! Some are already sitting in my word file but I'm both lazy and fussy and that's an awful combination to have things done quickly Currently compiling costumes Nessie is sitting in my word file too, it was one of the first Actually, given you're some kind of a fairy godmother for our Nessie, do you think it would be better in the general Yuzu lingo or in the Yuzu skating moves and Onomatopoeias and Programs and other stuff I've not decided yet more skating-related? Or better to put Nessie with carrot cake and competitions acronyms and some more general figure skating words? Also, I found out there is a limit of 78 emoticons per post I had to cut some already, it's so hard well, in the worst scenario I'll just have to further split the glossary
  11. with all those hints they were sending to Yuzu to go for a 3 peat, I think it's only about China wanting to ensure successful Olympics, and if they can have a strong OGM contender it would draw more attention form their general audience... and they know Boyang has all the technical goods to be that but needs work on areas where TCC excels (and probably they also want to do something about Boyang's "reputation", because they are smart and they can draw the same conclusions we draw when we compare Boyang and Nathan's 6 quad program and the PCS they got) So all that long interview where Zhao talked about Yuzu (among other things) was part of their big plan for world dominance Boyang's move
  12. I'm waiting for the Olympic Channel tbh (or have I missed it?), it's surprising they haven't said anything, with all the random Yuzu stuff they've been tweeting...
  13. thank you for quoting me kaeryth, I'm so happy to see her! Please stay healthy bb Nastya, I want to cheer you on again next season!!! Zhenya's Experience program made me think about Nastya a lot of late, her wilderness fit quite well in the madness concept of her SP (one would think it would be too much for a 13th years old but she did well imo)
  14. have you already watched all five Kenji's room episodes? the host is Kenji Miyamoto, who also choreographed some of Yuzuru's EX programs (Hana ni Nare and Requiem among them). They cover many different subjects. It's very hilarious but also poignant and very informative (can't thank @¯\_(ツ)_/¯ enough, I still cackle everytime I remember Yuzu's "Like.A.Hawk")
  15. happy news! Isn't it amazing to watch the making of a Legend? I'm so happy I can witness all of this! And the older fans must feel even prouder! And his family and Zuzu Congrats and thank you, Yuzu, for you truly bring a lot of happiness idk why I was only going for pics, LOL, the gif is perfect!!!
  16. Show acronyms are on their way, as well as costumes (tho waiting till tomorrow, sorry, gotta go to sleep, it' already late, how is it possible I always forget to look at the clock until it's too late gosh it's right there in the darn corner of my screen) keep the suggestions coming guys! (suggestions can also go in the Glossary thread, I was asking here to get more contributions) how to ruin an ice cream (and make it look ugly) sorry Zu, I do love you I can't be on your side if you commit a crime against ice cream @OonsieHui is right, but we can't help but overanalyse every little bit of news quoting myself from the Coaching changes thread 'cause why not, it can help
  17. to brighten things up
  18. I don't want that, bad things happen when Yuzu is left training in Japan by himself Guys, guys, I have a new word! OVERTHINKING, aka what Yuzu and we fanyus do all the time this thread wouldn't be >3600 pages otherwise
  19. that's what matters the most for me. As long as Yuzu thinks whatever relationship he has with his coaches works fine for him and his goals, it's ok, even if somewhere in the depth of my mind I wonder and wonder. My innate reaction is always to be protective of Yuzuru, but I'm trying to be optimist and to trust Yuzuru. I also trust Brian has learned from both his split with Yuna and from his ups and downs with Yuzu. Probably if Boston had not happened (medals aside, all that was going on behind the scene) there would be much less worry now, but it happended and we know that 1) Yuzu had the tendency to keep things for himself and keep them boiling inside 2) the coaches weren't always able to understand that he was indeed hiding things. I try to remember there was also Helsinki, tho, and then PyeongChang and there the team worked amazingly well, better than anyone could have expected or dreamed, so I will wait and shove that nagging voice in my head somewhere deep for now... sorry, can't help you there, I need reasonable satellites too usually I need a very conscious effort not to go full-blown hyper-protective sister mode so me writing reasonable things is me trying to persuade myself to be reasonable I do feel somehow Brian's relationship with Yuzu is different. I'm sure he admires him a lot as a skater (after all, he called him the greatest, and even if he was just PR talk he still said that only about Yuzu, and even in Javi's documentary he said Yuzu floats on the ice). But on a personal level, even if Brian has said that for him both Javi and Yuzu are like sons, I feel there is a difference in affection. Maybe because he had Javi for longer, maybe because Javi was alone and needed Brian more on a personal level other than as a coach, or that simply he can get to talk more with him and about "normal" stuff, but I feel there is an... unbalance, if you want. And it's fine, as long as he does his job as a coach and in PC he did that and none could have asked for more. But I'm also extremely biased towards Yuzu and maybe I'm just overanalysing things and reading more than there is, so if for Yuzuru it's ok don't worry too much about Brian not caring for him as much as for Javi on a personal level. also re: Brian stating many times he asked Javi if he was fine with Yuzu coming to TCC, it could be because 1)his knowledge of Javi's past issues under Morozov, imo quite likely as they are indeed so close that invites Javi at his lake house, and 2)maybe a conscious or unconscious way to make Javi more relevant, as he's aware Spain doesn't care that much about FS while Japan does, so it's like taking a bit of Yuzu's popularity to lift Javi up a bit (you can also see how in almost every interview about Yuzu he talks about Javi too, to counterbalance how everyone always want to know about Yuzu, even when talking to Javi) It's sad that this would be needed, but that's the reality of the sport being unpopular in certain countries and popular in others. And also remember that Yuzuru also has Tracy and Ghislain there (and he credited them for their help in the period after Boston), so even if Brian sometimes makes weird comments there's that too. iirc in her TSL(?) inteview Tracy talked about how Yuzu would laugh often, and that struck me a lot because it was maybe the first time I had my image of Yuzu being a shy and quiet guy dispelled, when I still hadn't learned a lot about his character. It was a revelation for me. If only Brian could made a similar comment now and then, instead of the same old sentence we know by heart by now! Anyway, who wonders how long it will take for Boyang's english to get better than Yuzu's? LOL If Yuzu had the same interest for English as he has for earphones, Axel and maths he would likely sound like a native-english speaker by now But he improved a lot, if you consider he uses english only at the rink, and probably he doesn't even watch english channels... ETA: wow not one but a whole bunch of people have beaten me at the same reply
  20. they're headphones buddies, after all, so that's a bit more he has in common with Boyang than with Javi (plus the love for everything Gold). Oh, and they both spent the day after their Helsinki medals being totally adorable nerds one all alone rewatching his SP and the other "celebrating" with cup noodles tbh I don't expect Yuzuru's off-ice life to change that much, it's just how he is (he himself described himself as an introvert) so, even if he loves goofing around with others during galas, he probably values his spaces a LOT. I just don't think he needs to interact with many people all the time. I bet even at home he stays holed up in his room most of the time, but I'm also sure he appreciates a lot having his mom to share things like meals with him...
  21. here, have a Yuzu-kitten comparison to lighten the mood thank you also, more questions for our glossary Anyone has one of those pics with all those magazine covers featuring the White T-shirt? Is Jedi Yuzu a thing or not? (re: FaOI 2018 OP costume) Is Prince Yuzu a thing or not? (re: FaOI 2018 finale costume) is the hip roll a thing? (re: the attempt at a sexy move in Vertigo) do we call the sideways lunge pistol pose? do we ever use WL for White Legend? should we add the Ugly gloves? LOL I'm getting carried away Also, should we have something like "FS commentators, journalists &photographers, coaches and other significant people in Yuzu's life?" For example P.Hersh and Minoru Sano could go there, if we want (or even add some of the most common nicknames for other skaters? It would be only very marginally related but it could go under "general skatink lingo")
  22. Oh, I'm so sorry to read Jason was in the slumps after 4CC, he's always so sunny and smiley one forgets he wants to give his best evertytime and is disappointed when he fails to do so...but I'm glad he seems to have got better and he sounds very driven! I didn't expect he would declare he wants a 4 years plan, whoa Tho who knows, maybe if he can get a consistent quad, with the new rules he could make it (tho from a purely cinic point of view USA have Nathan and Vincent, unless suddenly judges staring seriously punishing Vincent's UR habits, and then most of the more promising junior, already eligible for senio, are from US so it will be quite though...) re: the part about Yuzuru you're probably right and I hope you are right and thank you for being the voice of reason, tho I'm still quite baffled by those words and I wish Brian had approached Boyang's move the same way he approached Zhenya's move (and Yuzu's in 2012). Boyang is a direct competitor after all, Med isn't, tho I guess Med's name was a bit more "probleamatic" in her own right, with her being a top skater and possibly also the shipping circus, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Yuzu's team to request that Zhenya cancelled all the photos as conditio sine qua non Yuzu's non-reaction (in Brian's words, reported by Phil) can mean a whole lot of things, but of course when you drop a bomb like that on someone, it's...a lot to take. Or Yuzu doesn't care at all or he already knew *her imagination already starting to cope writing ficional backstory of Boyangman chatting with Yuzu in PyeongChang and Yuzu inviting him to join the fun in Toronto* tbh the sentence I'm more ????? about is that "I'm sure if there was an issue, I would have heard about it by now." It sounds weird, given their past, but hey, if it means Brian is absolutely confident that Yuzuru tells him everything that goes through is mind and speaks out everytime he's troubled, that's good. They've got their share of misunderstandings and communication issues, but both parties have learned their lessons, I guess btw reading the whole article is a lot more reassuring than reading only that quote. How they made it clear to Jason his move wasn't possible if he wasn't fine with being a team effort + the last couple of lines about how they're going to handle things are reassuring and make me think they have put all the necessary thought into this catch'em all
  23. added the charts + cacti backstory
  24. re: glossary nagging @Hydroblade again for the pancakes chart and the cacti moodboard, if anyone else has the links thank you in advance (well, I did save the links somewhere but my pc is so chaotic rn I don't even know where to start searching) Also, anyone has that tweet with pics of the Yuzu fanboys + Yuzu all wearing a sparkling white shirt? They were all side by side with Yuzu in the centre, iirc the other guys were Mitsuki and Sota Among costumes, I'm going for both DoryYuzu and Yuzudory since it looks like we can't settle for one But would you like The Yellow Duster too? (it looks like that costume unleashed our imagination) Some more questions for knowledgeable satellites: Zazura is it from commentators mispronouncing Yuzu's name or fans' own creation? Sources for the Paprika accident? ETA nevermind, found, Gotta thank @OhYuzu for answering that question some (thousands) pages ago How would you define the Harem? @Xen, looking at you because to personify jumps as Court ladies is your idea also your contribute on Machine-gun talk CoD was Combo of Death or Combo of Doom? And how was it renamed? I remember something in the other place involving @Yatagarasu Is ther a name for season 2014-15? iirc it has something to do with Hell but I don't think it's that used so I am confused Yuzu's demonic gaze is called DemonEyes, right? Or Demon!Yuzu? DemonLook? (also, is there a pic with side by side Nice and Helsinki demon eyes?) is fan uncle a legit term? (meaning, is it ok for the glossary? Also, are they middle-aged or I'm doing like Yuzu who called "ossan" people over 30? o_O) Also, other than photographers and commentators are there other people? do any of you has a video of Yuzu being a racehorse (speeding up as soon as he gets on the ice at practice, leaving others biting dust). I have the scene in my eyes but I can't remember from which practice it could be... a REALLY GOOD pic of a Yuzu scrunchy smile? a definition for Lord Zu please (or a VERY GOOD pic) what was that twitter thread comparing Yuzuru with cats? (needed for Space Kitten) how would you define "squishy"? what's the Japanese word for Quintuple jump? I was really undecided between TheReturnOfTheKing season and 2017-18, but I went for Olympic season because it's the most recent and the only one I've followed form start to finish and despite all the rollercoaster it had a happy ending (and Yuzu's Oly practices and Oly fluff in general made me deliriously happy), tho I would have picked all seasons if I could...
  25. thank youuuu I fear I'll abuse your help in the future
