He is definitely a quadster, no one is denying that. It is just that the term is usually used to group the younger skaters instead of listing their names (or at least that how I usually see it used).
-
The new rules favors those with multiple quads (especially the 4F and 4Lz) and that is not Yuzu. The younger quad kids are also catching up to him in PC and even if he is always given the highest PC scores, a couple of points won't make a big difference compared to the BV and GOE of quads. @Anki does unfortunately have a point. If the ISU and the judges wanted to create an new idol, then beating Yuzu is the way to go because he is a legend. It is basically piggybacking on his fame and reputation. Afterall, who is the best skater in the world? it is the one who beat the legend We did see it in the media last year at the Olympics when they were pushing Nathan and always bringing up the fact that he is the only one to beat Yuzu (if you discount ACI which they probably did) in the previous year. I am not saying it is going to happen, but we cannot just believe that if he is clean he will win anymore. Give the other quadseters high GOE and PC (they are almost there) and they will win, it is just math. Yuzu knows and understand this which is why he talked about the new generation when asked about WR. Sorry for the pessimistic post.. I think Yuzu will be fine because his goals are not just winning but delivering great performances and the 4A. But I think we should be prepared to see someone else win over a clean Yuzu, as it very much can happen.

Guess the New Programs! (and win nothing if you do)
Neenah replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Not the actual music, but I did guess what Yuzu's plan may be a while back -
What kind of dark magic is he using to shed years like this, he looks younger everytime I see him Sorry, been watching too much supernatural these days
-
Hydroblade as a transition.. I approve I was honestly worried about the Hydroblade when they cut 30 seconds from the the FP, but I shouldn't have. If Yuzu wanted something, he will find a way to do it

I don't remember reading anything about the costumes (other than people speculating) but you could be correct. I've read too much in a short time, I am having trouble telling truth from fiction
-
Johnny definitely has a unique style that works for him, but I would rather he keeps it to himself It's not like Yuzu's own style is lacking in anything and he has been giving us beautiful costumes that fits the themes in his programs very much. He doesn't need to wear Johnny's style costume just because he chose the music Johnny skated to before. That would be too much tribute IMO

Any videos with the StSq should come with a warning. This is not good for my health or my non existent time management skills

The music for both programs is beautiful and I trust both Jeff and Shae to make something special for Yuzu. Of course, there is no need to say that I think he will perform it brilliantly like always. So, I am really looking forward to see the programs in competition I am also very happy he is skating to something that is clearly special to him
-
More importantly, who are the choreographers? is it Jeff and Shae?
-
This is not recycling.. He is not going to skate the same programs, just the music right
-
I am confused, is it really announced? where?

Caffeine.... Check Chocolate... Check Paper bag to breathe in... Check Work thrown aside because who cares... Check Okay, I am ready... Bring it on Mr. Hanyu
-
September 8th? of all the dates you could have chosen Mr.Hanyu, you went with the 8th Sorry, after waiting so long he chose the exact date I am moving from my home and would be too busy
-
NO That is the one piece of music I will not forgive him for using

You have a very pessimistic view of the sport, but that is your opinion and I respect it.. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree

you kind of missed my points, but I am having trouble explaining it anyway so it is fine. I think @WinForPooh did better job than I did with that. What I am saying is in our world it is perception and self image that matters most. What makes something sport or art? Why would someone who consider themselves artists care about an Olympic medal when they can compete for other prestigious awards in their own field. What I keep seeing is that ID is not a sport because it is dancing on ice and so I explained that while the dancing part may be considered art (because that's how dancers see themselves), the ice part and the skating skills required to transfer dance into the ice is considered a sport (because these are the basics of FS in general and it is an accepted sport). ID is a sport because it wants to be a sport and the ISU did their best to meet the demands and conditions that makes it a sport. This is not about some universal rule that you need to sweat this much or exert that much effort for something to be considered a sport, it is about the Olympics having a set of rules that needs to be met to b recognized as a sport. Any kind of activity (like ballet) can change and try to meet those demands to be considered a sport. The real question here is, do they want to? do they consider themselves a sport?

Many things came together to make Yuzu such an interesting person, and make it very easy to like and root for him His skating is beautiful, effortless, and elegant . If nothing else, you can admire the beauty he creates on ice. He is a likeable person.. kind, polite, funny, emotional, and relatable in so many ways His life story is inspiring. All he went through since he was a child and how he fought for what he wanted is very admirable and inspiring. His charity work and how he never forgets his country, the earthquake victims and people supporting him He also is a big success story against too many odds and hardships that you get to watch happen and experience with him, which is something that we as humans like very much. Also, he is flawed and not perfect, which makes him someone we can understand and connect with. Basically, Yuzu, his life, success, challenges, art and work are the perfect combination that make him special.

Glad that helped because I wasn't sure I was explaining myself well Just one more thing, I m not implying that the others are haughty or anything. I am just saying that they may see themselves differently and don't want to be a sport. it is all about perception and maybe those communities just don't think they are that similar. We should ask a dancer about what they think, that would be an interesting topic of discussion.

I did actually mention this is my post. Unlike other dances, ID shares aspects of it (the skating part) with other sports (singles and paris) so while it is dancing on ice, it is also skating on ice. Unless you consider only jumps, twists, and throws to be athletic in FS. ID is both dance and sport by its very nature, which is not something other dances can claim. Do we know if other dances actually want to be an Olympic sport? Because we know that the ISU did things in the rules and competitions specifically to have ID included as a sport. If the other dance displances don't want to be included then maybe that is the reason they are not

ID is a sport based on skill more than athleticism, which I personally think is fine. I can see why you have a problem with it but you are probably overthinking the matter a bit. It is a sport because the ISU and IOC (I think) made it so by devising rules and a scoring system that fits with other Olympic sports. This is how thing happen everywhere, you get the authority on the matter to say you fit something and it is accepted that you do. Also, ID uses skills and techniques shared with other sports (singles and pairs), so it does have more claim on being a sport than other dances. I am personally happy that it is considered an Olympic sport because it means we get to see those high level competitions and teams. ID is a beautiful sport and I would be really sad to see it disappear or be neglected because it is no longer considered important like the other disciplines.

My feeling toward the Worlds 2017 FS is pure awe. Everytime I watch it I find myself mesmerized at the perfection of that performance. But Seimei at the Olympics was the performance that truly hit me hard. It was a mix of joy, heartache, anticipation and admiration, it still brings tears to my eyes when I watch it and that is a real feat as I am not someone who cries easily. So it has to be my choice here

The only reason the ISU wants to have an artistic and technical segments is to give more medals. It is the same reason they introduced the team event at the Olympics as well. Why? simply because IJS made the competition fair and allowed small country skaters to compete almost equally with established skating countries. The ISU are not even trying to hide t, they said it is about the popularity of the sport and giving more medals and we know that they are only considering popularity in the US and Europe as important. So, they will invent a new competition that they can choose the winner to and give them a gold medal just to make the feds and their sponsors happy. The team event also clearly favored the big feds and was more or less a competitions on which color of Olympic medals Russia, Canada, and the US where getting. Now we have Olympic medalists who couldn't get anywhere near the podium in their individual events. I don't know why the ISU is soo desperate for the old markets and can't see the potential in the new markets in Asia and other places in the World. We are seeing talented skaters from countries no one thought would have skating and they need the support to build the sport in their countries. But the ISU is making it harder for them by giving more chances to stronger feds and cementing them at the top. I see this as a step backwards from the IJS and the ISU should really consider it carefully. Having more medals in not a bad idea but giving them should be based on a fair competition that does not favour any side or a skater, and the suggested format certainly does not look like it would be.
