The Great Glittering Planet Hanyu Glossary (or welcome in fandom lingo)
sweetwater replied to EisElle's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
@LadyLou Thank you for this amazing glossary! It's so fun and full of memories I didn't know Mezamashi made it here By the way, deko-dashi is from DOI this year. In the Special edition of day3 and the TBS terrestrial digital version, there was a segment where Yuzu commentated his past DOI performances. When he saw the footage of Hello, I Love You, he first said he was scared and nervous because the performance was full of mistakes. Then he explained it was the first program he made in Canada and one of the things that changed his mindset back then, and that he started deko-dashi (showing his forehead) from around DOI2012. You can hear him saying deko-dashi around 1:07:20 of this video. And "puku puku" is from the backstage fluff of WTT this year, I guess. When he saw the fan decorated with the photos of him now and back in his baby-boy days, he said his (younger Yuzu's) face "プクプクしてる." (Puku puku shiteru) Puku puku is a word that expresses the way something looks swollen like a soft bubble, so I guess he was looking at the soft chubby cheeks of his young self. -

Thanks! I was watching NHK Trophy official site and wondering if the news was official since the site has not been updated. I am so happy for Kao! Congrats to Rino and KoKo as well!

Well, Plushenko was 29-30 at that time, although the relationship between him and the coach might have been a bit different from that of Misha and the coach. If Misha had an option to skate whatever he loved to skate he would have done so, and if he wholeheartedly agreed to his coach's choice, he would have reacted to the question differently. I guess he was trying not to lie to his feelings at that moment while respecting his coach's decision.

Not officially confirmed yet, but it looks like Kao's gonna compete at NHK!
-
It's not surprising if Misha ditched a program according to Mishin's suggestion. Coach Mishin did the same with Plushenko when he was competing. In 2012, Pasquale Camerlengo choreographed Plushenko's SP, and Kenji Miyamoto choreographed R&J as his FP, but we didn't have a chance to see any of them because the coach didn't find them promising. Something similar happened for the next season as well. Some say Plushenko is always Plushenko, but I think it was partly because of coach Mishin's approach. My impression is that the coach has a strong opinion on what is a good program and doesn't sit back and wait for his students to find something new and make it theirs.

It's a new content of FOD (Fuji On-Demand), not a TV program. The video will be added to this page at 00:00 tomorrow. (JST) https://fod.fujitv.co.jp/s/genre/sports/ser1202/ The website is available only in Japan, so you need a VPN and a subscription.

Wishing Rika good luck too. I hope she can find someone good to treat her injury as well. Stephane once took Koshiro to Toronto to heal his injury, so I guess Toronto has good physicians or doctors? According to Asahi, coach Mie Hamada will continue coaching Rika as well. ETA: "Team Brian" mentioned in the posts shared by @Anni are Brian Orser, Tracy Wilson, Paige Aistrop, Ghislain Briand, and Brian Wilson who choreographed her FP for this season. https://hochi.news/articles/20210908-OHT1T51041.html Announcement from IMG https://imgjapan.com/client-figure-skating/rikakihira20210908/ Looks like Riku/Ryu and KoKo are going back to Canada as well. I love all of them, but the one I love most is the one in Haru yo koi, in which he was smiling wildly while blossoming.

Congratulate skaters with their Birthdays
sweetwater replied to Deliverpooh's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Happy birthday, Rika! She says this cake was a present from her grandma. She was surprised because the cake was so big, but was happy because she had never had a cake like this! The cake, the photos of Rika with the cake, and her comment are all so lovely -
Shoya Ichihashi, who had skated with Riku Miura until the beginning of 2019, has paired up with Miyu Yunoki. Miyu had been skating as a singles skater in Hokkaido until the end of the last season, but now she is based in Kyoto. As I see Kansai Univ. in the background, they will train there, I guess? Miyu will continue singles skating as well.

COVID-wise, the situation is probably worse as a whole than in April. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/japan/ Nearly half of the population here got vaccinated since then, so the situation has improved in that respect, but now, we are facing stronger opponents. It is hard to predict how long it will take to flatten the curve. Having read the recent news, I am almost sure that JSF decided to forgo sending their athletes to international competitions because of the suspension or abolition of the athlete track system that would exempt athletes from full quarantine. I mentioned the system briefly earlier in the General Skating Chat thread, so I am not going to repeat it, but share some English articles about it for reference. Although it was developed mainly for the participants of Tokyo2020, if you read the second article, you will see that it has been applied to other athletes, and has been suspended during an SoE. Japan to Exempt Foreign Athletes from 14-Day Quarantine (Published on September 23, 2020 by Jiji.com) https://sp.m.jiji.com/english/show/7452 Government to suspend athletes' coronavirus entry exemptions (Published on January 14, 2021, by Kyodo) https://english.kyodonews.net/news/2021/01/f9a0a19a7a63-government-to-suspend-athletes-coronavirus-entry-exemptions.html Athletes could receive exemptions to enter Japan when state of emergency lifts (Published on February 27, 2021) https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1104787/japan-tokyo-2020-olympics-exemptions COVID-wise, Osaka in this April, actually, was not in a good situation, but WTT took place nevertheless because it was scheduled between two state-of-emergencies, (Our second SoE was January 8-March 21, and the third SoE was April 25-May 31. WTT was April 15-18) and that was when our government needed some achievements in holding large-scale sporting events in bubble systems to go on with Tokyo2020. So I would not take WTT as an example of JSF worked to accommodate foreign skaters. That said, I wholeheartedly agree that they should prioritize their skaters' well-being, and I hope they will figure out ways to help their skaters in this situation.

Sad for Kao. He was aiming for JGPF in Osaka. I think he had a good chance of qualifying.

A recent interview with Koshiro. He says that he is going back to Japan for the NHK Trophy selection scheduled for September 11, which coincides with Lombardia Trophy.
