  1. Generally, whatever quirk a skater has with a jump in its triple form, it will be amplified and made more pronounced in the quad form. Like Yuzu's loop - he has a slightly different way of taking off for the loop because he really likes the outside edge. This is visible in his triple loop, but in his quad loop, it is very, very pronounced. Or Shoma, his 3F has slight pre-rotation and using whole blade instead of toepick problems, but in his 4F, it's very pronounced. Or look at Yuzu's 3Lz vs his 4Lz - his edge is already very outside for his 3Lz, and his picking toe is angled a little differently than usual, but his specific technique is very obvious in his 4Lz. Now we come to his Flip. Yuzu was a notorious Lipper - using the outside edge for the Flip instead of an inside edge, as he's supposed to, which is what makes a Flip a Flip and not a Lutz - when he was younger. He worked hard on it and he fixed it. Ironically enough, his way of fixing it was by making the entry quite difficult (aside, for anybody who might have noticed: I was watching 2011 COR R+J yesterday, did he have the same entry into the flip then? Looked like a lip lol). Now he goes into his 3F from difficult transitions. He usually steps into his 3F directly from 3-turns. This keeps him on the inside edge, and it keeps him from lipping. And we get those 'from nowhere!" comments for his 3F. But his characteristic reluctance to stay on his inside edge would be amplified if he tried to do a 4F. Doing a quad from such difficult maneuvreing to stay on the inside edge would be very difficult. So even if he did manage to get the 4F - he could do that, I think, his flip edge is now stable enough that he'd be able to do it - doing it as part of his layout in competition would be another matter altogether. There's a high chance of getting the edge wrong, or at least unclear, a good few times. It's not worth the trouble when he already has enough quads to do a 5-quad two-3A free skate, if he wanted to. Which he would have done this season if it hadn't been for the injury. And anyway, the axel is his jump. A 4A is worth more, and probably also more fun for him to try than an inside edge jump! And it would really be making more history. (Could I point you towards the-real-xmonster.tumblr.com? That's Alice's blog. She has tons and tons of information. Most of what I've said here, I learnt from her, and then went back and watched videos to see what she meant. She uses lots of gifs to explain everything.)
  2. Your dad qualifies for fs commentary and reporting! Black with red accents. We've been wanting that...
  3. It's not over yet, is it? I hope trolls stay away now, any of their nonsense will affect real bids now.
  4. Are they being strict with the auction finally? Seems to be 8 mil.
  5. Yuzu and the ice. #Truelove.
  6. He probably wouldn't have. H&L was four quads, two 3As, and all done perfectly, and decent GOE (still underscored) and very good PCS. The way I understand it, he lost 30% of the 4T BV and a -3 GOE on top of that, and there's the 2T rippon that didn't make it in because he switched the 3A combo, and then negative GOE on the Lz. That's a lot of points. With that, he would've won the free skate as well. He might have or at least come very close to breaking the overall record, I guess, that's about 13 points off, but probably not the free skate record. But it was the choreo sequence of Olympics Seimei that made me blubber triumphantly. Seriously, I was crying like Nobu but he looked so triumphant as he launched into it, as if he had taken on the universe itself and won. It was everything. Makes it the best Seimei ever for me even if he'd technically done it better before, with two 3As, and I love his 3As. The swan killed me all over again.
  7. So he's already one of us. He'd fit right in.
  8. Watching Seimei again, it's extraordinary how perfectly choreographed to music it is, and how committed he is to the choreography. He shows it's possible to have multiple quads in a programme and still do that. He's extraordinary. And Nobu really is all of us when it comes to watching Yuzu. Come and join us, Nobu!
  9. I think it was mentioned in the Olympics fluff thread as well? From what I remember, one of the commentators from that team has a strong (former?) connection to Shoma's coaching team, so the commentary tends to favour Shoma a bit. Except when they get completely carried away by Yuzu's brilliance. Actually I think it was mentioned in the men's SP or fluff thread because we were talking about it when right after the SP, they first kind of reflexively gushed and then started talking about how Yuzu might not be able to sustain it through the free skate.
  10. I don't know if they were posted before, but thank you for posting again, anyway.
  11. Me too! So far, all that's happened is my sister will watch if I send her links and bribe her (though she asked me about Tessa and Scott, apparently everybody was talking about their MR), and my husband, instead of getting into figure skating, has got into Monster Hunter and declared that sleepy pizza-loving gamer Shoma would be just the kind of guy he'd hang out with. But we have the planet, and what are distances and time zones when life is scheduled by Yuzu's itinerary and now also major fs competitions?! High speed internet is my true soulmate.
  12. You can do it, don't worry too much. We might not have his determination, but we can do our best. I'm sure that'll be enough.
  13. That's wonderful! I hope you have the best time talking about Yuzu. You're lucky. All the people IRL I talk to about Yuzu only tolerate me out of affection, they're not really interested even if they appreciate and agree that he is incredible. Of course, if they did say he's not, I wouldn't cook or bake for them again, so that might be a small factor though I hope not.
  14. lol You should have that glass of wine Ralu, you have absolutely earned it with your efforts towards hitting 3000.
  15. Absolutely. Barkeep! More of the same! (That includes awesome fruity mocktails, and milkshakes, of the vegan variety as well.) More of the same for everybody! We should watch all of Yuzu's records and big moments and keep the drinks flowing.
  16. Don't underestimate what Monster Hunter can do. I have lost the big screen TV forever, or so it seems, because my husband discovered MonHun. But then he said I can't complain because I was worse for a month before the Olympics, so...
  17. I guess the process is verification post bid placement, not the other way round, so bids aren't working out as they might have expected. Doesn't sound smart. Yuzu must be too focused on his recovery, catching up with all the things he denied himself until the Olys, and treatment and all that, and hopefully also home with family, to see this and worry about it. I hope he's having a peaceful, restful time.
  18. I don't think they anticipated this level of interest. Any auction where bidding is expected to go into millions of dollars would involve international bidders who can easily send authorised representatives to a physical location. I don't know what's going on, but I think a bunch of people had enough knowhow to bypass what sounds like fairly basic precautions against fake bids and decided to cause a little trouble. Maybe they did use bots, but after being alerted the first time, the organisers should've been able to implement stronger measures to keep bots out. But these kinds of bids should only make it through after verification, wtf.
  19. The Lord of the Triple Axel. I could look at that all day. I might, really. It's so beautiful. Change of foot before entry? Stabilise using other foot on exit with planned transition? What are such things?
  20. That auction needs better cyber security.
  21. Raise a glass to the planet, the people who created and run the planet, and all of us here, the optimists, the cynics and the resigned. Raise another one to PM Pooh and may he triumph over his current troubles and competition. And most of all, raise a third glass for 3000 to our Evil Overlord Trollzuru, champion of the Olympics, the world and our hearts. Long may be reign.
  22. Boyangman for gold, incredible redemption silver for Keiji to make up for his Olys falls. What, a girl can dream.
  23. Squishy Yuzu spam is always and forever welcome.
  24. Yes, otherwise Yuzu would have a really nutty multi-millionaire fan otherwise. Which would be a tiny bit creepy, somebody with that kind of money having a bit of a Yuzu obsession? More than a wee bit creepy. A corporation is preferable to that.
