His answer for his favorite food is so american! XD

That's why I really hope that he brings in the 4F. If the layout of the fs we saw is what he'll be using the rest of the season, I wouldn't understand why he chose not to up his tech. This year's olympics is another back-to-back competition and I wonder if Patrick will be skating in the team's event (seems likely though). I agree with you and I hope he''ll skate clean for both programs, so that the general audience can appreciate his skating more. Before I became a fan of Yuzu, my judgement of figure skating programs is simply how beautiful it is; I didn't even know what a quad is. It doesn't take a trained eye to see that Patrick has better skating skills than the quadsters. If clean Patrick loses to a quadster who fell once or twice, the audience will definitely question the judges' decision. Yuzu, Patrick and perhaps Javi have reached the point where skating is no longer just a sport but also an art form to express themselves. I think the balance between sports and arts is what makes figure skating so beautiful. On a side note, I hope Patrick's costume is slightly more attention grabbing so that it can leave a deeper impression. Many times I've thought "is this just his practice clothes?" when I saw his costumes lol.

Pardon me for being biased, but I think a more accurate term for that is called a Yuzu. =P Patrick's a great skater though and I really hope he can podium during PC2018. Jumps are cool, but skating skills are the foundation of the sport and someone like Patrick should be given more credit for that. What's the point of having a PCS scoring section if it can't be used to distinguish skaters like the TES section? Is it me or does that remind me of Seimei's start? XD Was that Patrick's breadth? XD

Wow...I've not watched Onmyouji, but Yuzu does have some resemblance to this actor. If you told me this photo is a great photoshop of Yuzu, I would totally believe you!
-
Yes!!! Yuzu is one of the rare few who are both very feminine and masculine at the same time. And I hate it when people talk about femininity and masculinity as two polar opposites; sure, there are differences but there are commonalities too! I hope to see more variations in women skating as well. This is a sport and I don't want it to be restricted by social expectations (which should be updated to reflect the 21st century). Maybe that's Yuzu's motivation to study English better - to win arguments.

Jump Faces Yeah!!!

Somehow the ladies still look gorgeous! But they look constipated though. =P As for the men, they either look very constipated or possessed by a ghost. XD -
Life is fair, they may look gorgeous most of the time, but this is how they look when in air or spinning. I agree! Not just the unfair treatment though. Imo, Boyang has a unique charm and he reminds me a little of Yuzu during his first 2 senior seasons. I may be wrong, but I feel that Boyang has the most potential amongst the youngsters to become a complete package. I'm ok with him still having the best 4Lz even after Yuzu debuts it (when?!!!) because Yuzu is already no. 1 in so many aspects. This off season may not be like an off season, but I'm getting impatient.... I want ACI to come soon! Yuzu's new costumes? Javi vs Yuzu? Chopin 3.0 and Seimei 2.0? It'll be the most exciting ACI ever!

2014-2015 Season Yuzuru Hanyu Competitions Streaming/Discussion Party
singcarcom replied to robin's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Same here. I've also seen CoC a few times, but not NHK yet. I think it's better to include too because painful as it is, it was part of Yuzu's journey. It was heartbreaking to watch, but each time I watched COC, my admiration for Yuzu grew. Hanyu Yuzuru is who he is today, not only because of his triumphs, but also because of his setbacks. History comes as a whole package, and seeing his tears only make me love his smiles more. So I'm glad y'all decided to include those competitions. -
Thank you so much for sharing! This is so beautiful!!! I kept recalling Yuzu's skate as I was watching the fireworks and I got teary. He is indeed the Hope and Legacy. I personally feel that H&L is more Yuzu than Seimei, but it's a pity that it's appreciated less. But perhaps I enjoy H&L so much because I know Yuzu's journey. For people who don't love Yuzu, Seimei definitely draws in people more and is easier to understand. I will miss his H&L performance at worlds though! It was a truly magical moment! *Shall go watch it a few more times with different commentary*
-
I definitely think so. Yuzu's not the only skater who's repeating both programs, but he gets the most shade because he is very difficult to beat. Despite the much higher BVs, no one has beaten Yuzu's record set by Chopin and Seimei yet, so an upgraded Chopin and Seimei must be terrifying for his opponents. Not only that, he needs to land the 4Lz and 4A in competition with +5 GOEs. =P Who knows what kind of WR he can set with the new judging criteria?
-
But, isn't Pooh banned in China now? (Hope they would change that though!) I think it takes time to get over the saltiness when Yuzu prevented Patrick from breaking the Canadian men curse. But they're both great sportsmen, so I believe they have a lot of respect for each other. This is understandable though. It's only recently that Yuzu's vocab exceeded beyond "happy", "work hard", "good",etc. That would be great too. Winning an OGM at home must mean a lot more. Oh, but I'll only want Boyang to win OGM if Yuzu is not competing...Sorry Boyang! You're very adorable too, just not at Yuzu's level. =P

I guess I wasn't being clear. I didn't mean to say that Nathan doesn't have good mental strength, in fact, I would argue that the top 6 men all have incredible mental strength. I feel that at the competition, there are a lot of factors affecting a skater's performance - physical state, mental state, equipment, etc....And I'm personally not a fan when people attribute poor performances to mainly one factor. Just my personal opinion, but I see no meaning in trying to justify someone's loss, even for Yuzu. For example, I believe he deserves to have won worlds 2015 and 2016 as well, but I will not argue that he could have won because such an argument is meaningless. It's a fact that he got silvers, and those were kuyashii moments, but you move on and grow stronger.

Agree! Besides being a superb athelete, Yuzu is also very intelligent! So I trust him with his decisions....and being the Trollzuru, he's always surprising us so I'll stop speculating and just enjoy his performances. I find it strange when they mentioned that a 6 quad fs is new, cos Nathan already attempted it. Tbh, I'm not fond of Nathan's strategy because difficulty does not equate quality. I like Yuzu's approach more where he will never sacrifice quality for a higher BV. Despite having a much higher BV, Nathan's sp never came close to beating Yuzu's WR. His FS is still pretty empty because his stamina is not strong enough for a 6 quad fs yet. I don't like it when people keep bringing up his boot problems. I contrast it with how Yuzu refuses to put the blame on his injuries when he didn't skate well. It's as he says, that he doesn't want to 'make excuses'; if he could fully rotate his jumps with that much injuries during COC 2014, his subsequent poor performances are no excuses. Of course, boot problems or injuries do affect a skater's condition, but there's too many ifs. Nathan didn't skate well during Worlds because of boot problems; Javi didn't skate well during fs because ....., Patrick didn't skate clean because..., Yuzu messed up his SP because of.... There's so much going on at competitions and every skaters are facing challenges of their own. And focusing on these external factors does not help the skater improve. If Nathan can't skate clean despite having good boots, is it the ice's fault? Or is the sound system poor? Or is the lighting distracting? At some point, you have to acknowledge that it all goes down to the skater and his mental strength.

I guess the problem with same gender pairs is that it makes judging harder. You can't really expect the same rigor from a man-man, woman-woman or man-woman pair. I think at this point, there might not be enough same gender pairs to have a separate category of their own. But that being said, why must all the pairs skate like they're in a relationship? Unless they're a couple in real life as well, I don't like to see fake chemistry. Why can't we see a platonic program? It'll still be beautiful with good choreo and good skating. He'll be as old as Javi right now so it's possible. I'll love to see Yuzu skate for at least 2 more seasons after Pyeongchang 2018, but I don't know if my heart can survive another olympic season.

Yuzu: Look at these mediocre reporters bow down to my awesomeness! I love it when Yuzu does that hand wave! It's so cute!!!! Omg, now I want someone to make a movie out of Yuzu's journey as a figure skater!!! Make it a trilogy maybe - baby Yuzu, junior Yuzu and senior Yuzu!!! It's kind of strange...when the youngsters say they want to do a 5,6 or 7-quad FS, I'm like "are they CRAZY?!!" But when Yuzu does it, I'm really excited for his performance. I guess the difference between Yuzu and some of the youngsters is that he's improving quickly, but steadily, so he has been conditioning his body to do this. To the youngsters, please take care of your bodies more! On a side note, Boyang's 4Ltz is so gorgeous!!!! He's not Yuzu level now, but I look forward to see how much he would have grown at Beijing 2022. <3

Since I woke up, I've been juggling between my work and catching up with the thread. 1 day and 100+ pages later, I finally caught up! Phew.... So true!!!! My heart rate kept increasing as I was trying to read through the thread...and when his first practice came, it's Chopin! My condolences to all fanyus who were following it live....it must have been a lot more agonizing for y'all. Can I be greedy and hope for both? If I'm forced to choose one ='(, I'll want him to get his 2nd OGM. The field today is so much more competitive compared to Dick Button's time. A 2nd OGM has been Yuzu's goal and it will make his legacy even more legendary! And please Yuzu....don't leave until you've landed a 4A in competition (and this season is probably not good for such risks). I want to watch you skate live at least once in my life. And after , the planet is now I bet Mt. Irene is going to erupt soon again....I don't know how I'll survive this season....
-
Omg omg omg!!! It's night time over here....Goodnight fellow satellites. I'll try to have some sleep to embrace myself for the incoming eruption! Side note: Can we have a volcano eruption emoticon?
-
I hope that the PPAPoi dance during WTT is not Yuzu's best effort....if it is, he should stay away from choreography Looking forward to his FS announcement though! I prefer Shae-Lynn's choreo...I hope Yuzu will continue working with her after she choreo-ed 2 of Yuzu's legendary programs. <3
-
This is not just any Pooh, it's the Pooh-san. And for a moment, I thought Mt. Irene has already erupted because of the sudden increase in number of posts. Javi's decision to go to ACI must have triggered some major earthquakes, resulting in Mt. Irene spewing out little sparkles of panic. I can't wait for the real eruption!
-
I'm not sure if we are semi-sane. This eruption will be spectacular!

I've mentioned it briefly in the general chat, but there's a full translation of the Future of Tohoku documentary (~40+ minutes) featuring 16 year-old Yuzu. http://yuzuru-hanyu-translations.weebly.com/2010-2011.html The video has to be downloaded in order to watch it. I can also upload it on google drive and share, but I'm not sure if it's allowed or not. The website also features other Yuzu-related translations from his first senior season to the 2015/2016 season. It's not comprehensive, but really helpful for revisiting Yuzu's earlier seasons, especially for new fans like me.

But that accident made the song even more melancholic. And I started really loving Yuzu after watching that performance because I was really impressed (and heartbroken too) by his resilience and determination. Me: Before COC, Yuzuru Hanyu is a cool guy. Me: After COC, omg YUZUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!
-
At least the CD version is subjectively bad. The live version is objectively bad. =P And I don't think Yuzu is tone-deaf since his hearing is so sensitive. He has unique taste. I'm not sure if Yuzu likes this song though. Compare this to his Hana ni Nare, Hana wa Saku and a few other programs with Japanese songs, he's lip-syncing those songs as he skates; don't see him doing this here.
-
I've seen the full translation of this! http://yuzuru-hanyu-translations.weebly.com/2010-2011.html It's the Future of Tohoku documentary and you need to download it to watch it. It's the first Yuzu documentary that I've watched and I really loved the scene where the little girl asked Yuzu for his autography! <3

I was hoping for Sashida Fumiya, but this looks like it'll be interesting too! I wonder what song Yuzu's going to skate to.
