  1. I wasn't that shocked about his statement? After what happened with the ladies in 2014, Vincent probably has to sound confident enough to ensure he doesn't get eyed too to be replaced for the Olys spot, especially as his body of work this season isn't that great, and junior worlds might not count as much. It could also be in practice he doesn't have as much an issue, but nerves of competing brings out the worst. Maybe his strategy for the sheer number of quads was to offset the potential calls he'd get? Or at the very least, showcase to the judges that he has the quads to make a statement internationally.
  2. Politely remind them that Patrick has really good results from this video. And that if anything, this video indicates Jason Brown has been lowballed significantly. Usually, except for very few special cases, that's enough to stop the whiny ones in their tracks.
  3. Well he could do team SP or team LP to test the waters. If he does SP, maybe do the 4Lo version in team SP and go for the stable 4S version for individual to stay clean (he needs stable score, not exactly the highest possible though the ACI version scores well too). This season is just a little too weird for my liking. Why did I choose to get back into FS right around Olys, why?!
  4. Yes, that is the most important thing now...that he has enough stamina and practice to land 2 clean skates. Honestly, playing around with hypotheticals, Yuzu might be the one most capable of cracking that 340 barrier if he goes clean with 5 quad LP. Even Nationals version of Nate didn't crack 320 yet I think.
  5. Well you guys also forgot, that even with Nats inflation, Nate's total score still didn't beat a not so clean Hanyu from WC 2017. Yes, Nate watered down his layout, and he had a popped axel in LP, but consider that Yuzu had an invalidated combo in SP and 1 less quad in LP in Helsinki, both of which should allow Nate plenty of room to catch up Nate was still under that score even with Nats-flation. While I agree that judges like to "add" points to other guys, what GPF showed is that judges still judge on a relative basis, so if Nate gets really good scores, the other men who are known for being more artistic would get even higher scores. Try as the media might, Nate is probably not going to crack the top 3 or 4 yet artistically when all things are equal-and his scores in PCs probably rely on him skating clean moreso than the scores of the other men in the top 4 (Boyang being the only one similar to him). So while I agree that it's possible, I'd rather hope Yuzu skate his ideal skate (clean all segments) and let the chips fall where they may. People will remember Seimei and Ballade that way, it would be considered the iconic men's FS Olympics program, and that might be more important . And if COR showed us anything...judges still like him a lot. =)
  6. Imagine him with normal headphones....
  7. I might need to join you, have half a mind to rewrite that NYT article....
  8. Doesn't matter if he's doing 5 quad layout RTs or not. The most important thing is he is possibly feeling good enough to get back on ice. Most of us were anxious about whether he would have enough time to practice since our assumption was he didn't even touch ice for a very long time. If he's touched ice in the past 2 weeks, then he's probably back on track, or closer to it.
  9. Oh, they have the glove and jacket removal methods to use, so no need to worry.
  10. You realize Ninny has joined the forum right?
  11. Am I the only person who finds it highly ironic and hilarious that our memelord has cat versions if himself on twitter, yet based on asian zodiac, he's actually a dog? Where are the Yuzu and dogs/puppies version?
  12. This is making me think of Free! and the swimmer's maid cafe. Would it ever be possible that they have a cafe on ice with all the skaters (current and former) serving people? It looks really fun.
  13. He can get very close to it. As mentioned before, a lot of the men left points on the table in GOE scores for spins, and even StSq and ChSq. And in Zu's case, he went first in the group so his jump GOEs were even lower than his average. So I played around with numbers-if I were to increase his GOEs to just 85% of possible max GOE, his actual netted TES percentile would have been closer to 97%. Edit: so I went in and checked, if Yuzu manages to get an a spread of about 2+2+2+3+3+3+3 in the GOEs counted towards the GOE score, then actually he could be near 97% of total TES possible, a 4-5 split of 2's and 3's would work, he would be at 96.67%. But similar to PCS, I don't expect anyone to get perfect GOEs all the time-that I think is more possible in SP, not in LP. Edit 2: Went and checked Nate and Yuzu for Rostel 2017. In Nate's case, I made his repeat 3A2T a 3A3T for the Perf Tes calculation. Yuzu and Nate both screwed up on the StSq, Nate's team needs to explain the last spin (CCoSp1V-he lost 1.6 points there). Yuzu's GOE's are scary. The more I see Nate's SS and CO and IN scores, the more I raise my eyebrows... Yuzuru Hanyu Actual TES 101.54 TES% 87.26% Perfect TES 116.37 PCS % 94.38% Nathan Chen Actual TES 104.85 TES% 81% Perfect TES 129.4 PCS% 88.4%
  14. I think that quote came about a week after his Bday, and his withdraw notice (with jumps not back reason) was around Dec. 20th. But I would think he's back on ice now, because the way the WD was said, it seemed he was back on ice, just not doing jumps yet.
  15. Okay, so his netted percentile just slipped further...well I wanted to avoid that. Poor Patrick, that day was not his day.
  16. I think what he said was he needed about 2 weeks of complete rest where he can't use his right ankle period, then about 4 weeks where he gradually starts rehab to move back on the ice. So a total of about 4-6 weeks before he gains back his full jumping form. Which calendar wise puts us at about late Dec (around JNats) when he goes back to practice on ice. Given what the injury is, he might take a bit longer, so probably back on ice in late Dec and probably test things out and recover jumps around the late Dec-early Jan/mid Jan timeline. So far it seems he withdrew from JNats because his quads were not back in full force. He would have about a month of practice to regain peak form (though based on what Nobu and Brian has said, he might need less than that).
  17. When you are bored at lunch and happen to have excel open... Back in an episode of Max and Angelo's podcast, they mentioned how incredible Yuzu's ACI 2017 SP scores were, since he managed to grab about 97/98% of all possible points. Taking inspiration from that, and since skaters are not necessarily balanced between technicals and artistry (try as they might) I went ahead and tried to see just who leans which way. Data is from Helsinki 2017 Men's LP scores alone. And in the end, the ones with the almost balanced scores were Yuzu, Boyang. Jason, Nathan and Shoma were next, where the TES and PCS% were within 7% of each other, and Pchan and Javi had a larger gap and lean heavily on PCs scores. Also, Yuzu managed to net about 95% of his possible perfect score, Shoma at 91%. Patrick, Javi, Boyang and Jason were in the 86-88% range, with Nate coming in at 80% netted. If you look at the Perfect TES, it's pretty scary how huge the gap is between the men, especially between Javi/Pchan and the other men. Nate is...in a league of his own, to put it mildly. All the men left a lot of GOEs on the table, especially on spins-while calculating it bugged me how many spins did not get GOEs above 1! WTF boys... NOTES: Perfect TES= the full BV of the jumps and full GOEs for the element, if the skater got only Lv3, I go with Lv3, not 4 In the case of Patrick since he had a 3A+Seq+2S, this was hard to calculate. For this element, thanks to Xeyra, it's now a 3A1Lo3S! For calculations, I referred to this: http://fisk8-score-calc.herokuapp.com/ Yuzuru Hanyu Actual TES received 126.12 TES% 93.89% Perfect TES 134.33 PCS % 97.08% Shoma Uno Actual TES received 120.03 TES% 88% Perfect TES 135.64 PCS% 94.42 Boyang Jin Actual TES 118.94 TES% 89% Perfect TES 133.7 PCS% 86% Nathan Chen Actual TES 110.61 TES% 76.46% Perfect TES 144.67 PCS% 84.78% Patrick Chan Actual TES 98.11 TES% 79.28% Perfect TES 123.75 PCS% 94.92% Javi Actual TES 98.62 TES% 81.24% Perfect TES 121.39 PCS% 94.52% Jason Brown Actual TES 88.27 TES% 83.19% Perfect TES 106.11 PCS% 89.2% I should go do Rostelcom next...
  18. Wow, they managed to find so many cat faces to fit his expressions...I'm in awe and shock.
  19. Spoiler- he offered them to become an angel of plushenko....
  20. I don't really like TSL that much, but here's the interview with Tracy Wilson, and the specific segment about Yuzu, may it feed you for a while. And if you want to laugh go look up the TSL interview with Plushenko -I still snort when recalling that one, since Plush just *steamrolls* By the way, this above video really makes you trust Yuzu's team at TCC. So much details is just built into the training-this is why Yuzu can adapt layouts on the fly. He could just trust his training, because his training does sound very thorough and well thought-out. That "mindfulness" that Tracy mentions is pretty important, and what makes his and Javi's stroking stand out at ACI-they didn't look like they were just warm up stroking, but stroking with a purpose. Edit: I almost forgot. While the off season of 2016 was painful, let's not forget what they managed to accomplish in that short time period. Due to his injury, did Brian not fix his toe-loop tapping technique? That's a pretty significant accomplishment given that short period of time. So in that very short off season, they had to rebuild Yuzu's entire stamina, do new programs, and change a technique that would change pacing, rhythm , timing. And like fixing jump techniques, you start with singles and then build up to quads. But by the end of that season, what a stable 4T we had, and then Helsinki. While I'm normally doubtful of injured skaters coming back, somehow I find myself trusting this team and Yuzu. Still cautious, but more optimistic.
  21. I was actually focused more on the first coach-"“He has one of the best coaches in the world in Brian Orser. I don’t think Brian and Tracy Wilson would take an athlete to the Olympics that they did not believe was ready to compete.” This line sounds so familiar, I just don't remember which coach said it, but am fairly sure it's a US coach.
  22. My guesses involve some random draw from Carroll, Mishin and Plush....
  23. I find it amusing they are comparing him more to Kwan in 2006 and less to Plushenko in 2010 or even Sasha Cohen in 2006. Hanyu isn't exactly like Kwan 05/06, it's an incorrect analogy. Kwan in 05/06 was in a continuous state of injuries- in fact she didn't compete that season. Unlike Kwan though, Yuzu's had competition run-throughs of his programs, and knows at least relative to Nathan where he stands, where he needs to improve etc. The issue for him is that he needs to get back in peak competitive shape in a 2 month period of time. Sadly (or luckily) his team has a lot of experience with this-and he's been training this entire time off ice to maintain his muscle mass. This is simply a maintanence issue-not the entire rebuild issue of Kwan. As for the coaches....why does one sound vaguely of Mishin with Yuzu's noodlely figures? I wonder if the coaches interviewed involved one Carroll and one Mishin? Also, considering this season so far, most of the men have not been consistent, and for men's the standings in SP and FP can be very different. Yuzu has come back from 9 point deficeits-something that is only possible in men's. If he were a ladies's skater not named Medvedeva, I think this injury would be far more devastating.
  24. Well I'm actually not going to PyeongChang, so I will have to wait. Hope all the buttons find nice homes! With lots of love and Ghana-so-sweet-it-burns-hot chocolate. =D
  25. My skating bag functions like a vest. *hands you a skate guard* En guarde to see who gets those buttons!
