But but but...there is still the all overarching finance department, also known as the ISU. While our CEO skaters were busy managing their office of salarymen quads, wondering when they should upgrade their salarymen jumps to certain levels, the finance department decided that newp, rather than a new increased payscale, it might be necessary to reevaluate the payscale of the salarymen quads (and even the triple assistants), and possibly cut, yes CUT, salary. The only upside, according to finance, is a new benefits system called increased GOEs to be enacted soon. So now all the various companies are arguing with finance, and looking at what to do with their salarymen quads if finance succeeds. Maybe one day, we may no longer see certain salarymen quads in offices anymore, but instead, wandering the streets in tight purple trackpants, downtrodden and forlorn, with a "looking for work" sign around their necks.

You forgot his major-what if he had a say in the article? O_O Remember those equations in his notebook, and how he wants to plug them into his figure skating.
-
True to all three points. But I would argue that super objective isn't necessarily liked either-and you will get people arguing whether it is even "objective" since it doesn't put a favorite in a good light. You know the recent video counting steps/turns/crossovers? I brought it up in my skating group and a couple guys were outright dismissive that it was a "fanyu" thing, until I told them about PCS scores between Shoma, Nathan this season and Patrick and what the data actually says for all three in the video. Then they got a bit up in arms for the sake of Pchiddy. We're so lucky to like someone who is so textbook. But that might be why we liked him in the first place. And considering Yuzu had issues with his flip before, you could argue that a technically perfect skater might not really exist-or at least only flashes by once in a decade (or longer) that technical perfection is not the norm, so very rarely do you end up liking a skater due to their technical prowress. But considering that some like Yuzu's jumps better than Pchiddy or Javi's jumps, is liking someone's technical abilities even objective?

If he ever ever says he didn't enjoy his hard-won medal, anyone with me to hop on a flight and go strangle him with pooh plushies?

No, it's not so much that figure skating is immune or allergic to statistics and objective numbers. It's that a very small minority is-and sadly are louder than other fans of the same fandom. I think most fans are not that blind. Just because skater A is your favorite does not mean skater A will, and should win all the time-that's irrational (a small part of me will insist that in Yuzu's case, though I will conceed ACI LP, that was a wreck, pretty but a wreckage). While a balance of sport and art, we need to remember that there is a *sport* side to this that can be measured, objectively, which is what COP was trying to achieve. It's not fair to the skaters nor the system itself to ignore statistics/facts/numbers. Sure as heck, skaters themselves certainly don't ignore these things, otherwise why have video analysis/dartfish/stro-mo become part of most skater's training? And why sometimes I get pissed at Feds and ISU and um, yeah...

I confess to being triggered enough, I logged onto vpn on my cellphone just so I could checkout a facebook link. No it's fine, I think anything would have set off the trigger. We're just very dry, very thirsty cacti. But now, I have drawing ideas!

Funny thing that someone might have wrote this thinking it'll help him, yet now it's probably doing more damage than good. Funny that the "bad rivalry" is more from media and those around Yuzu and Shoma than the two skaters themselves. And while it would be really great PR if media can realize how much cross-pollination exists between the fandoms of both skaters, and really utilize the fandom properly to boost both skaters, they're sadly more interested in stirring trouble than anything positive. Anyways, I don't see a point in giving this article so much attention. Just a nice gesture to people to check Perform Live's own blog, which has also done analysis of Shoma's flip jumps (and I think it lists the height as 53 cm) in addition to Yuzu's 4Lz jump. Otherwise I fear it'll raise some people's fear hackles about "out of control Yuzu fans just attacking a nice random Japanese professor over an article." Especially if such people aren't very knowledgeable about skating, if I actually start arguing back. Edit: 53 cm, link here for analysis of Shoma's 4Flip: http://perform-live.com/blog/video-analysis-of-figure-skating/164-how-to-do-a-quad-flip-by-shoma-uno-japan.html

Is it even possible to jump a quad with only 48cm? Chukyo U prof, okay I see. No really, do they not want Japan to go 1-2 in mens? Now they give other media fuel to play with.

Uh, someone needs to point JPN media to that one perform Live analysis of Yuzu's 4Lz where he had a height of 69-72 cm and a distance coverage of 2.9-3.2 meters, with an airtime of almost 0.8 seconds (hence his delayed rotation). Yuzu might not have the biggest jumps of the guys anymore, but Shoma's jumps are not HUGE either.

Okay, so his waist while thin, is still wider than mine. I wasn't too far off from ACI guesses. He's probably gained a bit, so maybe 72 cm now.

Niiiiice. Someone should make versions for all of Zu's outfits...wait, *grabs sketchbook*

I'm amused by the fact it's not even 18/19 season yet and we're already planning reunions for dates towards the end of 2018. Anyways, I guess we should start another group thread/PM or something so we can plan stuff out soon?

Joining you in that boat. Salary, it was nice knowing you.

He might view that as too intimate to publish. Though I wonder if his views in the new book would have parts from his notebooks when working on the 15-18 programs?
-
I wonder if he would share more about how he goes about choosing music-since the tweet by Iron Klaus mentioned having his views on his recent programs. Now that he's older, he probably has more concrete views on artistry. What I would love to have though, is the english translation of Brian's book on training Yuzu. That would be enlightening.

Did they have to publish this right after I give out New Year's money to the younger ones in my family? Yes, this season has been weird. People have won, but it seems that other than the earlier victories, the later international victories for the men were not "decisive"- too many points were left on the table, and injuries just went up throughout the season. If anything, it seems that nerves made the men peak too early. If they keep on mentioning Yuzu being out due to injury, they only make it more "heroic" if Yuzu shows up and performs well. And never underestimate the "return from injury" boost that sometimes will show up in scores. As for artistic vs athletic-I don't think they can toss Yuzu easily into either corner, anyone who has curiosity can check on Youtube. This is a different situation from 2010, where word from media carried more weight and people are less likely to verify. If anything, those shade throwing might actually get Yuzu more fans from those who bother to check out Youtube.

Somewhere in Moscow, Brian sneezes. Javi gives him a tissue and asks if he is okay. Brian says it's nothing, dismissing it. 10 mins pass before he has a very violent sneeze. Little did Brian know that in a house in Toronto, a young Japanese man was having dreams where he is checking jumps off a long laudry list, with little sides notes marking little snippets/comments Brian gave, occassionally muttering "Brian says I need to wait a bit more and tap a bit...". And so as he dreams, Brian continues to sneeze in Moscow.

Would I be correct in my impression that she knows something (good) that will not be told to the media anytime soon? In which case, I'm fine with it, if it's good probably something that can be used by media to add pressure to him. I can wait...he'd be in ninja mode anyways right now. On a side note, guess this means that Planet Hanyu's climate alternates between dry and monsoon seasons? With nothing in between.

Hush, let's not give him ideas. >_> Lay an ambush---I now have a very firm image of Yuzu and his quads going into PC like a Sengoku Basara anime, Date Masamune style charge. Now I have images of Sengoku quads to rival the quads ladies. Does anyone have links to images that show a bigger picture of Yuzu's family crest in that one coming of age Anan shoot?
-
I thought he took one sip and then that can dissappeared offscreen.

Ah yes, Yoko Kanno would work. Inner Universe? Might work for SP or Ex, not sure about LP. By the way, I think I mentioned before that Yuzu could try skating to '"The Real Folk Blues" from Cowboy Bebop, since he's mentioned jazz before. And then there's the entire Vision of Escaflowne music that Kanno created too.
-
Okay, I'll bite: - Kenji Kawai: Ghost in the Shell, Fate, his music is really neat and I think it's something that Yuzu could skate to. Frankly, I want to see someone skate to the Ghost in the shell movie music: https://youtu.be/z64HCi2rQkE -Not sure if this is cheating, but Nodame Cantabile has classical music. In fact, a lot of the music animes might work well, such as Your Lie in April besides Nodame. - If we extend the anime and manga theme to movies too, you could technically include Blade of the Immortal and Rurouni Kenshin

Hmm, I'll look that up. So far I'm trying to come up with exercises that can be used, since I actually find most footwork practice really boring. T_T Currently listing crossover-3turn-back mohawk-crossover on a circle as one. I just think about it as a 1 foot spin a little bit further back on my blade...
-
Need help....I finally got a coach, and coach says I need to go back and work on my basics, so I'm also kicked back to crossovers. T_T According to coach, I rely too much on my first push to get speed, and that underpush is just a feeble little thing. So my speedboost is not ideal. Anyone have suggestions on how to improve that? I've never had such issues on my crossovers before that I'm a bit lost. And such a pointed specific issue too. On a side note, I get somewhat how Yuzu felt when he got told by Brian to work on skating skills. Today my first session was the same-passed my spins portion, passed my jumps portion, got told to go practice crossovers. It's a bit like, you can do really advanced linear algebra, but get told by your professor that you need to go back and do your multiplication tables.

Guys seriously, there is a lady who fits this criteria, and it's Yuzuki Hanyu. Remember? She can do 3As and quads!
