I think it is a nice program with lovely skating... but it is not a tango. She is skating too softly and gently without the attitude needed to get that feeling across. Jeff said that would be her challenge and so it is. I hold out hope that it will grow during the season. Love the ss, though.

Lol. Just a baby, then. I remember Brian skating (I was little then) and knew all his programs after Sarajevo perfectly, so I enjoy it when Yuzu learns/uses one of Brian's moves. Many others may not see it, but I do, lol.

I, too, will continue with watching skating after the, ahem, occurs.... just not as obsessively. I have been watching since Brian Orser was competing, and I find favourites to follow over the years. There has and always will be issues with politics, judging, wuz robbed, rivalries, etc.. I just love the competitive sport too much to ever quit it forever. Pro skating does nothing for me so I hope our boy keeps finding mountains he needs to climb for as long as possible.

I am quite anxious too... but, he now chooses what he wants to skate to... or at least has stronger input into the decision compared to some....so, what he has chosen will most likely be something he wants to skate to... in which case we will still erupt for quite a while... but then we'll concentrate more on other important things... like costume. and hair. I am anticipating something seimei-ish... but if it is buble, bieber, or something like tosca, well, I will eventually come to acceptance, lol. Eventually.

Betcha it will be next week... hope I am wrong. A fan has to know...

Each day that passes means bigger chance next day... and tomorrow is thursday, so maybe by my suppertime we will know... if not, the earth starts quaking as a sign of the impending explosion that will be probably next week... if memory serves, he does media day and then heads to japan soon after.... well, at least there is world track and field to slightly distract ....

I guess everyone feels the pressure this year so they try extra hard... especially those who already have an injury and are trying to come back so they don't fall behind. Satoko's injury was a big one and her jumps were always going to suffer for quite a while (anyone's would). Her strength has always been her wonderful artistry, interpretation, and jump consistency and with the hip injury to deal with... getting back her jumps, let alone that consistency, will not be easy. With the ladies situation in Japan I"m sure she really feels pressured to get back asap. I hope this new issue is as minor as they say it is. Time is still with her... 3 months until the grand prix series for her. Her programs are always so interesting, so I'd love to see her do them justice.

nah, the timing for the music would be off at this point during the day. It's morning in Toronto... i would guess the media would report it on either the morning or evening news in Japan. For me, usually the board explodes during my supper time (Japan morning) or my early morning (their night). Gah! I want to know!!!

I do not think he gave the layout, but showing off the 4loop made it more obvious what his plan was. If he shows a 4lz this time, we will know it is at least a possibility... same with combos he might let them film. Yeah, the board sometimes grows fast without much news, but it will exlode!!! when music is announced. Guaranteed. With love, hate, indifference, disappointment, you name it, lol.

Poor jun hwan. The pressure to go knowing you are not healthy, and then getting hurt more...rest and recovery are most important now...such stress for a 15 year old.. maybe during his rest he will visit a barber... time to lose that mop on top... he would look so good with something different, just for change...
-
Soon many questions will be answered... music, 4lz practice, new combos... when the board explodes one day we'll know media day was on... and maybe some of us will be excited, others maybe disappointed... it will be a ride...

What a rough year for Satoko. At least it is early August.

I think he would have liked to have kept the injury secret, but knowing he was going to stay in Canada for treatment and would have to decline shows he usually would attend would let people know something was up. He had to mention it...media usually finds out these things somehow. And, even with people knowing about the injury, it was rarely, if ever, mentioned by international media. I can't recall watching any of his programs with anyone commentating that he'd been off the ice for 2 months. So, really, the injury was pretty much ignored as a reason for any of his early season glitches.... just the way he probably would have wanted.

Yeah, you could tell psychology was something he would delve into... he may not even be looking into coaching himself, but understanding more Brian's perspective would certainly help him understand more where Brian is coming from sometimes. However, it would be great to see him as a coach too!! I never thought to see Brian as a coach and yet here we are... I am sure yuzu would be just as entertaining behind the boards as brian is, lol. Not very many successful skaters become great coaches and brian/tracy have done it.

Looking good!! And you know, it looks like puberty is already hitting, she isn't a child like board, so that bodes well, hopefully, for her future. Good to see!!

Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements
liv replied to CupidsBow's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Yup. Hallelujah is a great choice for him. I can easily see it as his final lp, and I just know it will be sooo good because it begs strong skating skills and that he has in spades. love the decision. -
Yes. Compare him to someone around his age, like jun hwan, who I find more interesting to watch. He only has a couple of quads, but his programs are well thought out and attention has been paid to many areas. It will be interesting to see what his programs look like this year to better compare.

Mai should keep practicing that 3L3T3T, so that the next time Yuzu pushes her out to jump combos in the gala she will be ready and he won't be able to laugh at her so hard, lol.

August 5-7th is a holiday weekend here... hmmm, would they do it while people might be away? Not sure if coaches coach on holidays?? No idea.
-
What day is the press day in August? I forgot and do not want to wade back into the thread for it... I know it is early august... not that far away anymore!!! So m6ch will be revealed.. music, anyway... that will feed us for a long time, lol.

Goebel and Nathan are very different cases. There is a big difference in skating skills between the two.... Goebel was weaker in almost every department, showed very little improvement year to year, and was nowhere near either of those two legends.... and it was 6.0 then, not COP, so who knows what the marks would have been then. ITA about BV not being everything, ITA, i'm just saying the rest of " everything" of his skating will be getting better quickly and I'm afraid of the marks he's going to get. I am not a big fan of his, but he's young, has potential and has a powerful federation behind him.
-
i agree. That is usually the case... My scary scenario is where Nathan goes totally clean. I know everything is theoretical, but the question for me is how much improvement in his skating will there be, beyond the jumps, and if so, how much will the judges give him for it. If he has knock your socks off programs, and also skates perfectly, what happens if the other guys go clean too? What if, for the first time in forever, the top guys all skate perfectly at the Olympics? That being said, I would love to see it. A perfect final flight. What a treat it would be for everyone.
-
That is the tricky thing. What if they all skate clean or close to it? Nathan, for example, will only get better in the second mark... and if he hits his target BV? We know yuzu should have better GOE, but sometimes he does not get them. A clean yuzu may not win over those with clean higher bv. It is the olympics, and I am a cynic.
