Baffled how? And for me...Please no open mouth gaping...thati Is my pet peeve...
-
Very interested to see/hear how the Russian skates go... wanna know Med's free music... and whether Tat's ecstasy is justified or just hyping the champ...
-
Skinny noodle arms have been replaced by muscles! I like his t shirt.
-
Absolutely. Even now, any time he even interacts with a female skater it is closely scrutinized, lol.

Maturity for RJ? Didnt V/M originally want RJ for Sochi, but Zueva said they were too old..?. I can see requiring maturity maybe for Tchaikovsky or Prokofiev... but not the modern movie character and soundtrack. The DiCaprio film definitely shows reckless youth, and the music is more brash and wild, so Yuzu was perfect for it in every way. Wild, a fall, a roar with success, and ended with the ultimate defiant ending glare. He was a star from the beginning. I love that World's performance.... the arrival of the baby faced assassin.

And with connecting steps, lol.....

Yeah, I remember the 4lz video. It has been cooking for a while... it just has not risen yet. it will.

I thought we did see his 4lutz, just not the best version of it...
-
Yeah, no 4A this year. He would have tried it in public somewhere if it was worth showing... like he has the 4lutz. I really have my doubts about quints. Yes, only 1 more rotation, but that person would have to be skinnier than yuzu or boyang, and get higher lift... possible but doubtful...

Too bad for Satoko, the road to her recovery has not been straight forward, but I wish her luck in the next few months. I always laugh at how often she repeated the word "speedy" in a press conference last year... so I hope her recovery from now on is "speedy!"

I know. Part of me wants him to win....but maybe with a small error, so that he remains

Yuzu has done amazing things for the sport. First, in his amazing performances, skills and records, and second, in forcing others to work harder, thereby creating more amazing skaters. Those skaters would have been good anyway, but by comparing themselves to him and finding out what needed to be done, they became almost the best versions of themselves that they could... just as he tries to become the best version of himself for the Olympics. It is a bit nail biting to hear he wants everything to culminate at the Olympics, but this is not a new thought in sport. Everyone wants to be their best there, on the biggest stage, that is the mind set of champions. I especially want his competitors to do well so that he cannot relax in any way. He does his best under pressure situations, when his back is up, so if he takes his fighting spirit with him into the arena then it becomes an advantage rather than a burden. Looking forward to a (hopefully ) black Seimei.... just a few weeks!!!!

Can anyone point me in the direction of the infamous 4axel talk show? I want to stare at it again. Thx.
-
It is yuzu. If he can do it in practice, or in a show, he will do it in competition... somewhere, somehow. He is too competitive to have everyone see him do it, but let someone else do it for reals and claim the glory.
-
I would seriously hope they would keep the BV of the 4A pretty high compared to other jumps. It is the holy grail, the loch ness monster and big foot of jumps. And, I think yuzu would want to do it just because he thinks he can... not really for marks. It is the prestige associated with it, I think. He wants to be a legend and doing it first would certainly cement that status even more.

Awww, so glad to read all of those wonderful things. I can hardly wait to see more of what she talks about. And, glad he has come back to Toronto. It was not a surprise to read it. Staying safely in his bubble to concentrate and train is the best thing and it will hopefully keep him in great shape for all that lies ahead. And lol, confirmation from someone that he HAS grown taller!!! The debate can rest.
-
So, basically they say they want the quads to be of higher quality, nicer and cleaner, to get the marks....rather than trying the hard stuff and doing it poorly just to get the high BV.... great, sounds good in theory, but since quality is subject to the eye of the judge it could be just another way to abuse the system and give marks to a favourite, or not reward others. I prefer to believe it would reward someone like Yuzu, who should be getting +3 GOE on his jumping passes when he is skating well... but I've been watching skating for too many decades to believe that the right things always occur. As always, though, watch and wait and hope.

Funny. I was thinking to myself after watching today, what happened? When exactly did he grow up? I feel like the parent who looks at their child through new eyes one sudden day... the confidence, the maturity... all through last season there was a change about him, but it is far more evident now. Well, we will see what ACI and this season bring.

That 2 rotations quote has to be one of my favourite all time figure skating quotes, lol!!! I will just sit here and chuckle for a bit longer...

It took time for skaters to develop the 4toe after Kurt did it, didn't it? His was 1988, and I don't think it became mainstream after that for a while. certainly not '92 olympics, '94 it was still not common... only Urmanov, Stojko, maybe Barna before that too were really doing them at the top ( who am I forgetting?)... Stojko really started bringing out the quad combos....but it wasn't common until lead up to Nagano when guys like Kulik, Yagudin, Plushenko arrived and joined the party. Maybe it takes time for these things to settle in... just like Midori and Tonya's 3As did not, and still have not, become regular players in the women's game almost 30 years later.

Have to think about IT!!

Nah, their jump techniques are way too different for pairs ... would not look that great!!
-
Lol. Polina is almost all legs!!

It is oodles better than the green leprechaun one. And a deep V elongates a person, making them look taller, but I hate illusion fabric. Sometimes I understand why they use it, like on Shoma's deep v, it goes really low... but didn't Yuzu have it on his PW costume? That, I never understood, there was no hint of anything showing, lol. Blue always looks better on tv too.... I read that once about television as a whole, and it is certainly true in figure skating.

I love that you said "when" the loch ness monster shows up... I fully believe in the when, not if.
