Spread eagles when done well are really cool. Yuzu's is great, but there have been awesome ones all down the line. Paul Wylie had a wonderful spread eagle... so did Boitano. Such a simple looking move, but very effective when held with a deep edge.

He could portray a samurai now. He definitely could. You have changed yuzu, do not put limits on that point.

I think Gabi Daleman could be the opposite to Yuzu. He may have the ability to do more traditionally "feminine" kinds of programs and she could do a great "more masculine" type program from a woman. Yes, she's outwardly strong in physical appearance, and also absolutely gorgeous and powerful. Not everyone is your traditional delicate ice princess, but she could totally embrace a different kind of strength. I think as she grows and matures this is totally possible for her.

What I know about the Olympics is that general fans will not care how a jump is done, or more likely, they will not know the nuances involved in performing each jump. If the jumps are landed, the program captivates the audience and home viewer, the skater and coaches react in jubilation, and no commentator remarks on the good/poor technique of the hardest quads ( they still are awed by the fact they ARE rather than HOW), to make them doubt the quality of what they just saw, then that viewer will not care about the important details. If the judges have not/do not deduct points now, I doubt they will until the next quad. It's like the reset button is pushed at that time.

I wonder how long they will be in Japan? Guessing he will be back by early September. I am sure it will be the usual whirlwind of press stuff, promos, the kids thing, photo shoots etc.. He seems to always pack a lot in while he is there, and I think he probably got lots done already in between the FaOi stops. Hope the family can squeeze in a bit of R/R together before he returns for more serious training before the season begins. After that it is go go go and non stop pressure.

Gordeeva/Grinkov, they were the team that made me become obsessed with skating... it was 1986 in Geneva and they were faster and did bigger tricks than anyone else, with incredible unison despite the height difference. I think one would have to watch entire competitions from those days to truly understand why this team was so different. My favourite amateur years for them were 1988 and 1989. The olympics in 1988, they would have been ahead like how yuzu was in GPF 2016. The worlds in 1989 was another example of blowing away the competition. Everyone talks about olympics 1994, but for me that was not them at their best. Europeans and SC were better. For those newer pairs watchers who think their twist is different than those of today, you are right Back then, triple twists were basically splits on the way up and then vertical twists in the air. Theirs was massive for the times. Canadians Brasseur/Eisler were the team that brought horizontal twists into fashion. Today's horizontal looks so messy to me, but many things look messy to me in pairs now, lol. The man, when catching the lady in a split twist , should be on one foot....very few do this properly now. Their throws were also considered text book throws. In 1994 they beat M/D by a tiny margin, despite mistakes, and one reason that was brought up was that in doing throws properly, the man should not come to a stop when he throws her... Sergei never stopped, while Artur Dmitriev did. Many pairs now come to stops when they throw.... it allows a huge throw. So, technique has changed a lot so pairs is very different. I remember that when China was first developing pairs, back in early 90s, G/G videos were shown as their technique was considered absolutely perfect. Now China has no need of those videos as they have developed their own pairs with their own style, technique, and great success.

Love the little additions. Also like his sit spin in the combo...spins always seem better in UA and practice. It will be so awesome to see this 2.0 in its totality. How many loooong weeks to go?

Nice Rippon!!! i much prefer Rippons since the arms usually stay straight, rather than helicopter. Glad he went for that rather than 'tano. Very few do nice 'tanos... um, actually, only Boitano!! If he keeps it, let it be the one and only one he does (in a program) or Brian will tear his hair out, lol.

I hope so. I realize he sees the benefits of skating clean a la medvedeva, buT her competitors arent doing harder jumps than she is....He is againstt people with harder jumps. I have faith in seimei and yuzu, but others are improving their skating quickly.REmember how yuzu quickly improved with jeffs choreography? Nathan is now with shae, you can bet his sp will be amazing. Having 4lz just in case is the smart thing.

I can understand the disappointment, for me it is more the Chopin choice (I love it, but wanted another jeff program), since we always want something new from our favourites. But, for me, I loved Seimei, and with new jumps and choreography it will be exciting to see how powerful this program will become over time, and how much it has improved since he is now so different from who he was back then.... And, this is his dream, his favourite program, his goal to get gold... I am more excited over Seimei than Chopin, but if these choices give him confidence, motivation, excitement, then I am excited to see what he produces, knowing his desire to skate is at its peak. At the Olympics we want skaters at their best, but often we get bundles of nerves... so if this means a better performance? It is a smart choice.
