I just came back from college so let me elaborate on my photobook idea. I'd like it to include fanarts of course, there are many talented people in our fandom. Also, pictures that show that we support him from every corner of the world. And especially I think it would be cool if each of us could write down the impact that knowing and loving Yuzu has had in our lives. For instance, I know that many people have started studying Japanese and/or practicing skating thanks to him. Personally, Yuzu has helped me grow a lot in terms of dealing with my anxiety and my nerves in an effective way. Even though I don't do sports at all, his mental strength has been really inspiring to me in other aspects of my life. Also, he's the only reason why I fell in love with figure skating (and why I even know what it is). I mean, I became a Yuzu fan in 2016 -when I was 16-, until then I had never watched a figure skating performance in my life and I obviously didn't know the name of any skater. I had never seen this sport on tv or in real life, I didn't even know that "ice skaters" could jump. I never imagined I could be such a fan of a winter sport. Every other South American FS fan I know has been introduced to the sport thanks to Yuzu. Also, we could write down anecdotes of our positive experiences as fans - how we've felt while watching him perform -all the times we've cried of joy and been inspired by him-, the friends we've made thanks to him, etc. He's probably received millions of messages such as "we love you", "cheer up", "we support you", which are amazing; but I think that describing the impact that he's had on so many lives through real-life examples could be more substantial and unique.

Another idea I'd love is a photobook. With photos of where fanyus live, photos of the most special moments of his career, letters, messages from fans, etc. We know Yuzu likes keeping journals and notebooks so he probably would appreciate it.

I totally agree with you!! I disagree with the idea of earphones and the medal for the exact same reaaon you mentioned. We know Yuzu loves real medals but I don't think he'd be fond of fan-made ones

Guys, what if we give him a bracelet/wristband/necklace or something like that? We know he likes those and he thinks they're meaningful... It should be golden of course and it could have a special engraved message or symbol. I think it's also a great idea for the project to mention all of the countries where satellites are from. For instance I don't know if Yuzu is even aware of the fact that he has crazy South American fans like me lmao

It's because Rafael knows that his words won't make any difference, he's just making fun of this circus lol. The media will keep pushing the narrative that Nathan won because he's the "quad king" even though his FS BV was only 4 points higher than Yuzu. And brainwashed viewers will keep believing it, along with the idea that he improved enough to get +90 PCs... I mean, even some Yuzu fans are saying that Chen deserved to win... If even fanyus can't see this farce then what makes you think that patriotic, biased Nathan fans will suddenly change their mind after Raf's interview... BTW:

i'd be okay with him going to WTT as long as the judges there let him break 350 and give him his 3 WRs back... i'm not asking for him to be clean; it's not like the scores at that competition tend to make sense anyway (well, recently every single event has had nonsensical scoring but WTT takes the cake)
-
Is it blocked for anyone else? Youtube says that it's only blocked in Japan...

@WinForPooh your wish is my command! (I've made the video you asked for) Here are the three World Medallists' free programs, except that I cut out all of their jumps and spins. AKA in this video you'll see all of their skating in-between. I also wrote at the bottom the marks that each skater got for TR, SS, PE, IN, CO and STSQ and CHSQ GOEs. It's unlisted because I don't want ISU to delete my channel, but you may reupload it or share it elsewhere. (btw I'm sorry for the low quality)

2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection
ICeleste replied to katonice's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I honestly think they chose Medvedeva just because she can sell more tickets. Sadly figure skating has turned into a popularity contest/reality show/circus, whatever you call it. I find it hard to keep calling it a sport. -
2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection
ICeleste replied to katonice's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Well, Liza worked just as hard. I said what I said. If Medvedeva's team is out there saying she earned the spot fairly then you can't expect me to have sympathy for her. They could've just said they're happy about it (which is understandable) and leave it at that. When Takahashi was selected for Worlds, many people claimed that the right thing to do was for him to give his spot to a younger skater (even though he came rightfully 2nd at Nationals). Now those people are okay with Med taking a spot that actually shouldn't be hers. The double standard jumped out lol -
2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection

Let's not forget that both Stanislava and Liza were robbed. I'm not a fan of the former at all but both of them have had better results than the privileged girl this season. -
2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection
ICeleste replied to katonice's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I'm pissed about RusFed's decision and I'm tired of following a "sport" that [admin edit] and that allows some of its athletes to be more privileged than others. As if terribly overscoring Medvedeva and turning a blind eye to her flaws for YEARS wasn't enough, now she's been given the spot that was undoubtedly well-deserved by Liza. This might be Liza's last chance to attend Worlds and I'm devastated that they robbed her of it. [admin edit: please don't direct mean-spirited criticism of judging to the skater] -
I still can't believe that Yuzu got the 1000th OGM after a miracle of a comeback... if I read something like this in a novel I'd say it's too good to be real or believable

Happy anniversary to Yuzu's second LOHL (love of his life) and to the happiest (and craziest, most unbelievable and nerve-wracking) night of my life. I remember he won at roughly 2AM here and I stayed up until the medal ceremony at 8AM because I was way too overwhelmed and ecstatic to get any sleep. I'd want to go back to that day but only to the moments after he'd won. I don't miss the anxiety I had until he finished skating, lmao. This just reminded me, I miss his strawberry cake. It'll be iconic if he brings it to Worlds next month.

I regret not appreciating 16/17 season as much as I should have... It had the best SP in history and healthy GPF/World Champion Yuzu, it couldn't have been more perfect! Take me back, please! I'm excited for next year though.
-
I'm from South America- I've never been able to travel abroad to attend a figure skating competition and I'd only spend that kind of money if I knew I'd see Yuzuru compete (I know I never will though lol). I don't care if that makes me a "fake fan of the sport". People have no right to tell others how they should spend their own money...

Your wish is my command. I've posted the whole translation on Team Spain! It's a great interview and I want every Javi and TCC fan to be able to read it.

https://twitter.com/LaLigaSports/status/1091324400446697472?s=19 I: What differences have you noticed between the Javi who first came to Toronto and Javi now, after 8 years? Brian: Listening to him now at the press conference, maybe it is his English what has improved a lot. From his first conference until now... Before he would only say: "I'm just so happy". But I watched him grow and become responsible. There are some things he always used to forget and I told him: "Have you sent a photo or email to this person?" expecting "no" for an answer but he told me "Yes, I sent it yesterday". Wow, ok. "Have you got your skates checked?" "Yes, I've already given them to X". Wow, when it used to be me who had to take care of that. He's taken all of those responsibilities even for his shows and the camps... There were some days when he had to come early to training to teach kids and there he was. He's more punctual when he's a teacher than when he's a student, for the kids he does arrive on time. What has been your most important competition alongside him? Brian: I don't know. There's many, for many different reasons. The first European title was very special. I knew what a challenge it was for an athlete to win Euros. Participating in the European Championship and winning it is huge. I remember that when I skated as a kid, I watched Euros to know who would win. We always knew the European Champions were great skaters, so I knew how important it was for him to win that title first. Also, his first medal at Skate Canada, everyone was crying. And he's always been grateful. With his family, with the team, he's always said good things about us, about Tracy and David. We've had the same team since the beginning, with no changes, organizing everything. We planned the programs, the music, the costumes... I usually brought the ideas for the music and costumes. And I knew I could put a trashbag on him and he'd have worn it. He's always believed in us and we've always believed in him. That's why it has worked. We've been together for 8 years and he's the student I've been teaching for the longest time. With Yuzu it's been 7 years. Javi could have fired me... but not anymore because it's over (T/N: I guess he means "he's finished his career?), so I'm good, we've overcome it. I: Everybody in Spain knows Javi. B: Really? I: I believe so. Brian: You know what? The first year he won Euros no one knew who he was. And now they do. But to get there, at first, he had to be consistent with the European titles. And then he has his Worlds titles and Olympic medal. I think that's enough for his name to become known. In addition to all the work by the media supporting him. It's a complete effort. I: What advice do you give him for his next chapter? B: You're on your own, friend (joking). Keep being yourself. He has all the tools to be successful in everything he does. He already knows what it's like to work hard, organize, lead people... He can live on his own, counting on people. I'll always be there for him, so will Tracy. Sometimes he asks for advice and I'll always give him my opinion, I'm happy for that and I hope it can continue that way. But now he has all the tools to go on with his life. Do you think he could be a good coach? Brian: I think he'll be a great coach when the time comes. I don't think he should start coaching now, because he still has the athletic level (T/N: aka he's still fit) to keep skating as an entertainment. I've told him: do that as long as you can and afterwards you could start coaching. And he'll be a great coach.

This interview is so worth reading! Brian gives a lot of insight about Javi in it. I: How's life in Toronto without Javi? Brian: "We miss him, a lot. It was funny because the first day he came back I had to pick him up. We had to start skating at 8:25 and I would pick him up at 8:00. When I came to his place he was still sleeping. I started screaming: "Javi, wake up!". It was a fun way to start. We went to the ice and before he put his skates on, Tracy came. As soon as she saw him she burst into tears. And Tracy doesn't cry often. Everyone was very happy to see him, especially Yuzuru. He really missed Javi. There was a summer day when we had a class and everybody was together in a group, except for Yuzu, who was standing alone, looking up. He was looking up at the Spanish flag. I walked towards him and I didn't realize that he was looking at the flag, I just saw him with his head up. And I saw that he had tears. I asked him: "Are you okay?". And he told me: "I really miss Javi". It was great, it was very beautiful, it's just that he missed having Javi there." I: It seems crazy to have the two best skaters in the world training together... Brian: It's unusual but it's worked. I have to say it's really worked for them, but I don't recommemd it for other elite athletes. Also, (Javi and Yuzu) have very different personalities, they couldn't be more different one from the other. (T/N: I'm picturing Yuzu looking at the flag with teary eyes and I'm emotional )

I don't know about other sports but trust me, as an Argentinian I can definitely confirm that skating fans are not even 1% as intense as football fans... Here there are people naming their kids "Messi" and Maradona is one of the biggest idols even now (football fans call him God), his private life is all over the news 24/7. I've never heard of these Laureus awards before so my guess is that it has to do with the awards not being as well-known or important to other fandoms. @caterpillar you hit the nail on the head with you last paragraph. I've never met a casual figure skating fan (or a casual fan of any niche sport), however whenever there is a football event here everyone can discuss it with their family, friends, coworkers, etc so they don't feel the need to sign up on an online forum to talk about it.

I REALLY tried to understand this part because Javi looked SO fond but I couldn't, but I'm glad someone else did. (this means: "This is the moment he likes most. And you can see it in his face. Even though he's probably very tired"). I can't explain it but it sounds softer in Spanish.
-
you're welcome. Javi said much more than what I translated, though... I wanted to understand the full interview but I couldn't even catch half of it. It's frustrating lol I hope JPN-speaking fans will translate the whole thing.
-
Here's what I could understand from basically reading Javi's lips lol Edit: Guys, keep in mind that this isn't even half of what he said. Sadly I couldn't understand most of the interview, these are just very small fragments. Javi talked much more. (After Sochi footage) Javi: You have to have... a lot of strength, I think. Yuzu’s very strong and he's a guy who can never give up. He always tries to achieve new things and overcome new challenges/trials (...) and when faced with difficult competitions, he’s always tried to fight. (About seeing Yuzu’s 2014 Olympic plaque every day) It gives you a little bit of envy. (About Worlds 2015) J: I think Yuzu was very sad because he wanted to win but at the same time, he even told me that he was very happy to see me there. (...) (About the months before PC) J: I didn’t see him much. "Who was your rival going into Pyeongchang?" J: Yuzuru. My rival was Yuzuru, always. I knew that if I did a perfect program I could compete against Shoma and Nathan very easily. But whenever Yuzuru skated perfectly he’s always received higher scores than me. (ref to OLYS Seimei) J: I haven't seen this program. (After Yuzu landed 3Lo) Very good *smiles brightly*. (during the chsq) Even though he must be very tired for sure, he looks well. (after Yuzuru’s Oly LP) J: I knew he had skated well but I didn’t focus on that. (”You are so bad” moment) “What were you talking about?” J: At first, I congratulated Yuzuru and Shoma for their medals and I told them it had been an honour to compete with them. And then I said that this probably had been my last competiton alongside them. (...) And that’s why Yuzu told me “You are so bad” (smiles even brighter than before). It was a beautiful moment. J: When the time comes for him to retire, I hope he feels proud of the story he’s had but above all, that his name will be remembered/engraved (?) in figure skating and hopefully, mine too. I rewatched like 5 times and that’s all I could catch... It’s a shame when nuances get lost in SPA>JPN>ENG translation.

Thank you!!! I wish it wasn't dubbed so I could understand Javi and Dick
