October 23, 20223 yr I didn't watch but saw only two things: Ilia's 4A and ChSq. That's probably the best 4A he has done to date and that's very impressive, gotta give him that. But, his ChSq was sloppy as hell. I'd imagine all that jumping took the life out of his program. Not surprised tho, but I'm not sure I like it. PS1: How did his 4Lz look in real time? Because I just saw the GOE ranging from -1 to + 3 PS2: His PCS ranged from 75 to 85, heh.... PS3: Someone(s) really did give him 9s on presentation and 8.75 on SS...

PS3: Someone(s) really did give him 9s on presentation and 8.75 on SS... Ilia annoyed me because: this afternoon when he did his runthrough in practice, he didn't do the 4A, but he was a lot sharper on all the other things, like the ChSq and so on. Then tonight he does the 4A, but all the rest of the program goes to pot...argh argh argh. As for his lutz, I didn't catch it fully but it looked decent
October 23, 20223 yr What I don't like about Ilia is that he basically kills every other elements whenever he goes for 4A. He literally sacrifices FS to achieve 4A. Apart from 4A, Kao has way more stunning jumps compared to Ilia. Kao's jumps are monsters.

They are not the prettiest but they sure are challenging to pull off without commitment and stamina. He didn't have both because whatever he had was poured into the jumps, especially the opening one. And he didn't have the slightest guilt about it. Don't let me start on how he got positive GOE on a messy ChSq with a visible stumble (and the praises, I would presume).
October 23, 20223 yr Just watched some of the programs on Youtube. My quick thoughts: Illia: 4A - wow, respect, didn't see if he pre rotated or not, but still, it looked good. But: i think he should work on his stamina or change the layout. He clearly has not enough energy for Step and Choreo sequence. Overall, his programs do nothing for me. Jun: really happy for him. His short is not my favorite, but I like his long program. Just the middle part looks kind of empty? Maybe they will add some steps along the season.... At this point, I don't think he will become friends with the Axel, but his Ina Bauer is so so beautiful! Kao: i love his short and long program. They are beautiful and so enjoyable, he is enjoyable to watch. Roman: only found his short on Youtube. The missed combo hurts, but his skating is just so nice to watch. From the comments i guess it wasn't his day during the free skate. Its just so sad, still hope he will one day be stable on the jumps....
October 23, 20223 yr Great to see Kao and Jun medaling at least, I hope Kao has a great competition next week and make it to the GPF Jun also has a decent chance. Ilia's 4A was impressive, his jumping is generally good (except the lutzes...) but he is such a week skater... of course it is gonna get ignored because of QUADS, it's already happening and only gonna get worse... Plus, I just dislike this kid so much, I'm not proud of it, but just can't help it. It's new for me, but his ego is just too much, and so childish... I' just don't want HIM to be a new number one
October 23, 20223 yr Usually when there is hype around a young skater, I check it out, hoping to see some rough diamonds or something... so we come to Ilia. Great, he does 4A and other quads, and thats hugely impressive... but i kept waiting for him to start skating... but no, i found nothing else that I liked. Nothing. His age has nothing to do with it. That program is a jumping exercise, with some extra tricks added to the jumps. Y'all can disagree with me, but if we contrast him with another youngster, Yuma.... Yuma can actually skate. He has flow and deep knees and edges...even his jumps seem to hover in the air, etc.. I was actually surprised at how much I disliked Ilia's skating. I deliberately avoided watching anything from this summer so I could look with fresh eyes, but... nope, I'm not on this train unless drastic changes occur. I hope I'm wrong.
October 23, 20223 yr All right who's watching ice dance? Carolane & Shane having twizzle trouble again today
October 23, 20223 yr Carolane and Shane, sorry to say so, they continue to be the most boring team for me. I don't know why, but it's almost like their trademark. Coaching change and rebranding didn't help at all. It was especially painfully visible yesterday, when they skated after Kanadai. Today also, the Germans were way more engaging and inetersting, even if the style of their free dance is not my cup of tea.
October 23, 20223 yr This program from McNamara/Spirindonov seems to be "inspired" by last season success of Green/Parsons, but it's neither well choreographed nor captivating. I believe good teams should seek for their own ideas and define their own charisma and style rather than copy others.
October 23, 20223 yr "Anything Daisuke does is alright by me" Daisuke always seems to struggle with twizzles and lifts
