They just seemed happier... maybe more tired physically, but also energized b/c of the crowd. And I say again, you know he was going to get extra PCS marks because he was the winner. They always throw candies at the winner. I also think he was more relaxed here. He knew neither Yuzu nor Nathan were here, so he had a fabulous chance of winning. It really was his to lose. Edit: It's World's. You all should have expected higher scores than you'd normally think you'd see. That shouldn’t be the standard. For people to believe the judging, it has to be consistent. Shoma got -2 to +3 on his axel Euler Flip combo, and we all know what happened yesterday with Yumas SP. It doesn’t make sense, so we shouldn’t be expecting it.
March 26, 20224 yr Shoma with a 9.32 on TR for the FP. LMAO this sport. Is it even a sport anymore? I am so glad I didn't watch at all.
March 26, 20224 yr This Worlds was definitely "war of pets". The champion is just the master of "cheated pre-rotated jumps" and "empty" programs. Combination of Eteri + Nathan at the worst levels. Meanwhile getting 9+ for transitions. The irony of this circus. I agree with my japanese timeline, they are somehow trying to get the attraction of Japanese fans, as the Russia market won't be available for some time.
March 26, 20224 yr Um, nothing I wouldn't expect, including the (over)scoring, so I'm not going into that. I hope all of them get a good rest now. Adam and Camden were definitely my highlights!

Well, if you've watched figure skating for decades you'll know that this is the norm and yes, you should expect it. Doesn't mean you have to like it. And no one has ever believed in the judging, that's why there's always a wuz robbed conversation.
March 26, 20224 yr Happy for Camden and Roman getting some redemption. Roman when on (but tbh even when off) is soooooo good and his spins are gorgeous, should seriously get top scores in any field. Camden has had such an unexpected opportunity and HE TOOK IT. So happy for him too. Kind of glad that Vincent had "redemption" too, after the way his OWG experience went. Not my fave but the bad showing in team and then covid were really sad. I hope his abusive mom can leave him alone now, he might actually be a very nice person. When his scores aren't being inflated to the moon he's also kind of a likable performer, and he seem to have a real passion for skating, which always softens me. Speaking of performers, Kazuki! Sad that he had mistakes and I expected him to be off podium, but he's such a pleasure to watch! Sad for JunHwan, but with a broken boot a WD was for the best, he could risk serious injury now routine prayer for KSU to stop sabotaging every single one of its skaters (and please don't stress them out with a thousand local comps that will make them.arrive in bad shape and tired to the very comps were they should get in top form) Shoma's program is dreadful, here I said it. You'd think he went clean from the score and pcs but LOL. David Wilson's choreo have often been called "generic" but compared to this Bolero they are top quality. Stark difference with Deniss, couldn't guess they have not only same coach but Stephane did choreo for both. Of course judges always giving truckloads of goe to DG jumps that never get even a measly q. PCS of course not applied to either of the Anointed ones, but hey the JSF long awaited wet-dream finally came to be (they've been waiting a good 5 years for this result), so they must be patting themselves on their back. Curious to see if there will be more talks about not needing an Ace. Slight OT Spoiler things look particularly bad in ladies to me, because even without rus skaters Kaori feels currently the only skater stable enough and scored well enough by judges to be in regular podium contention. Wakaba, even Mai who is rather consistent don't come close to her scores. So currently ladies is a lot more unbalanced than when JSF wanted to see Rika replaced, back in 2018-19 Yuma at least has more legit tech and real hope of improving if pushed in that direction (which I'd like a lot more than the direction of fake 4Lz and 4F tho, please no). He's young, the better part of his career is yet to come, barring injuries (and if Ilia and USFSA allow that. But Ilia may have some growing to do that might chage current prospects) Just like his beloved idol Nate, Shoma stagnated for 4 years and has now way worse programs than when he was in his 2nd sr seasons (but he himself thinks his choreo currently is so hard🙄) Meh. Fitting WC champion to close a terrible quadriennium for Men's skating. He may have the best crossovers ever seen and nice SS in the stsq, he may even be a charismatic performer (to limited sets of music), but his attitude, his programs and his scores are still every bit a representation of what's wrong in FS, as much as Nate's. Now waiting to see how ISU is gonna pull themselves out of the grave of maxed out scores that they have dug for themselves in just 4years. I expect the new artistic/tech program thing to pass and scores to start from 0 again.
March 27, 20224 yr Read through everyone's reactions and I have to say that, from the perspective of someone who was actually sitting in the arena, I disagree with a heck of a lot of what you've all said. What I do think after watching in person: 1. Camden gave a clutch performance and really delivered. Two strong skates in a row from him is rare occurence indeed and he looked visibly strong on the ice, too - very smooth and self-assured. Scores notwithstanding, he landed in the right placement at 5th 2. Happy for Roman, but compared to some of the higher skaters his program lacks in BV/difficulty. 3. I have more problems with the SP scores than the FS scores. 4. Vincent deserves his results after his terrible Olys but also with the performances he put in. He's more of an artistic skater than you can see onscreen and in person his skating has performance value. His jump technique is a problem. 4. I have serious questions about Yuma's FS score. IMO he was not better than Vincent this time. 5. Kazuki not going clean in the FS is a tragedy...he is an overlooked gem. He loves the audience so much and his tech is better than his results would imply. 6. Morisi deserves wayyyy better than Daniil's junk choreo and music choices. But he doesn't deserve the high scores he gets. Keegan's falls made me cry...Adam has such force of personality it sweeps you up in his performance...Ilia is very young....Shoma has matured....Deniss needs to find a better haircut...Deniss's program was super lively and suited him well....overall it was a good free skate, with strong performances. And...from where I sat it felt like the judges were being stingy. I was expecting higher numbers for some, and lower for others.
March 27, 20224 yr Just my own impression as a person who was at the competition : I wavered a lot up until the last minute, being not sure if I wanted to be there since I mainly wanted to see Yuzu but I had bought tickets for my family who don’t know much about skating and decided it would be nice to be there with them. I actually enjoyed myself a lot more than I thought I would and found myself cheering for a lot of the guys because it is definitely never the same when you watch them live. When you are in the arena it is all about the atmosphere and the magic skaters are able to create (some more than the others). The end of the Ukrainian skater’s performance was very emotional when at the end the audience showed a lot of support. The performances by the French, especially Adam were exhilarating because of the loud cheerings that really lifted him up. Roman was lovely to watch and seemed so soft as a person. Camden was one of my highlights and really blew me away. My heart broke for Keegan but he stayed very positive nonetheless, getting the crowd to love him even more, especially when he showed us that picture in the kiss and cry I looooved Deniss’s ponytail during his spins and OMG Ilia’s fall on that quad looked really painful ! However I can see that this kid has a lot of potential as his skating was very fluid. Kazuki was a cutie and the audience clapped a lot during his step sequence : what a shame he did some mistakes. I can see Yuma is a good skater but I didn’t really feel any emotion watching him live (I felt more watching Vincent who is actually quite soft and artistic live : I was rooting for him because I felt bad for him missing on Beijing this way). At the end, when Shoma showed up, it was clear for me he had a presence the others hadn’t (I had already felt the same when I watched him live before). There is something regal and elegant in his quiet presence. Maybe his technique is far from flawless but watching live is also about the overall impression). And I felt very happy because Yuzu was there anyway through the flags and banners dedicated to him, to the lovely fanyus I had the opportunity to bump into and whom I thank once again for the lovely gifts. I don’t really care about scores nowadays : I just went to see people skating, not numbers, this is why I really enjoyed myself. Of course I would love seeing Yuzu live one more time and I know I won’t really care about his score because as I said before, to me he is beyond all that.
March 27, 20224 yr In all honesty, Shoma has very good presence on the ice, with very good SS and good spins. It is his jumps and empty as heck programs that are big no-nos (also the candies). Stephane might have given him the confidence and improved maturity but sure as hell has not been able to do a thang about his horrible jumps, which are getting worse and worse as time goes by. Vincent has musicality and efforts to improve that should be acknowledged, but everything else is ehhhhhh Ilia has correct jumping techniques on all types so in that sense he is >> Shoma and Yuma but lordy, that kid is so juniorish (understandable). Also, someone tells him to bend his knees please. Yuma has the SS but that doesn't translate to good StSq, I do wonder why. Also, that lack in PE and IN is urgh. With all that is said, how did those 4 get the PCS and/or GOE they got, pray tell?????? Edit: I feel Shoma peaked with LOCO. That program slapped so hard. His Turandot, See you again and Vivaldi were also good. It all went downhill post-PC. What a shame.
March 27, 20224 yr I was lucky enough to be behind the judges desks (more or less) and it gave me a better understanding of what they could see. Of course watching everything in real time makes it difficult to distinguish what is what and I think even a trained eye is prone to miss things. That being said, I always thought that there were certain limitations to reviewing jumps and technique overall but I was wrong all this time. Judges are allowed to replay everything as many times as they want (just not in slow motion) so there is really no excuse for them in that regard I think - if you can watch something on replay so many times you gotta be able to detect the details that are wrong. I agree with what is being said about Yuma. His jumps are amazing and his SS could be put to better use but that just isn’t happening. There is no performance for me and that was even more evident during his skates in real life - I just couldn’t get into it, sigh.

Thank you for giving your overview, very interesting. But why is that? Why can't they quickly check a slow mo? Like from the take-off to landing, this wouldn't take a massive amount of time. Instead of replaying it many times, having a look in slow-mo can be more effective.
April 1, 20224 yr This has been my first live competition. Once I got over the frustration that I wasn't going to be able to see Yuzu, I must say that it was much more entertaining than I expected. I quite agree with @rockstaryuzu's opinion, although in my case (I don't know if it's yours too) I have no idea of technique, so my assessments are based more on how much the skater's performance caught me than on the technical quality of them. The ones I liked the most were Adam Siao and Kazuki Tomono. I loved Adam's energy, his ability to catch you in his choreography (in addition to his musical choices ) I loved the feeling of Kazuki that he was enjoying what he was doing, that he was giving himself so much to his program like the public. I also liked Camden, Kevin (too bad he fell), Vincent and Deniss. I looked especially at Ilia and could only think that he's still too young, he needs to mature in many ways. I was glad for Vincent's bronze, he seemed happy or maybe relieved after what happened to him at Olys. As for Shoma and Yuma, nothing to say. They didn't catch me and technically I can't rate them. So, despite the fact that it was a bumpy trip (I had to go back to Barcelona on Thursday to return to Montpellier on Friday) and that my friend had a back injury (she was on a crutch and spending a lot of time sitting was torture for her) the final feeling is of no regret for having gone I'm looking forward to repeating, but the next one with Yuzu on the rink
