The way it’s so empty and AGAIN being unfairly overscored makes me uncomfortable. Well, everything in Skate Canada is in favor of Nathan. No competitors. Just, it will be hilarious to watch him and Jason skating their programs back to back. Seeing Nathan get 44 in his sp for what was honestly a dull programme, which felt completely disconnected from the music, when Vincent only got 42 was really triggering. I honestly can't handle how overscored his PCS is... What really frustrates me is knowing that Nathan's PCS will be within a 2-4 points of Jason's when we all know Jason is a better performer.
October 24, 20214 yr At last, broadcasting of the Skate America (Men and Ladies SP) has just begun here in Japan (2:00 am now), just for one and a half hours. Come on, TV Asahi, you have 3 broadcasting channels

The gap in PCS doesn’t reflect the obvious gap in the performances on the ice. But the saddest part is that Jason is lucky to be American or else….. I’m curious about the scores Vincent and Shoma will get in NHK when they compete against Yuzu. Here, everything was done to save Nathan, so the story was different. Edit: Not TAT calling Nathan’s LP “breathtaking”. I see the deals for the Russian girls. Oh God. Enough figure skating for me till NHK.
October 24, 20214 yr Just thinking about my choices for watching GP, Olympics and worlds. Usually I would sign up for Eurosport but given that I loathe the commentators and it won’t give me Japanese or Canadian nationals idk….. think I might do it on a month by month basis rather than signing up for the whole year. Didn’t care about watching SA live, want to see Sadovsky at SC but I can probably wait for YouTube since NC will be showered with everything they can give him given he’s on the podium here: want to see NHK but there’s a long delayed family celebration that weekend so probably will have to catch up during the week after rather than seeing it live. Think I’ll see what I can get using the VPN and only pay Eurosport if I need to. I wish Jason was like Javier Fernandez - from a small fed that guaranteed him a spot, because he’s always nice to watch never mind the quads. Will Vincent’s showing here get him an ISU US boost? I really hope not but I bet it does.
October 24, 20214 yr Author I'll be curious if Vincent can keep this form the next months, because he looked in great shape at Nebelhorn and here as well but isn't it too early to peak this time of the season? Shoma's layout in the free skate is so ambitious, in the past seasons he usually had 2 or max. 3 quads when he stayed on his feet (sometimes only 1), so compared to that 5 seems a lot. He made a few mistakes today and his landings look iffy, I'll wait and see how he will skate at NHK. Shoma skated in his usual way, he has very similar movements in all his programs. Nathan looked very nervous at this competition, and his 4Lz has become really inconsistent lately. It was interesting to see a fancam of his free skate, he always skates from one end of the arena to the other end, doing one jump here and another one there, with no choreography in-between. Then he tries to sell the program in the last 30-40 seconds with the faster choreo sequence (it's the same formula with the short program except that it's Nemesis in the end during the StSq). While he does the jumps the music is slow, which probably helps him with the jumps. It's the same thing he's been doing for years now. The hiphop Requiem is just an ugly choice of music. At Skate Canada he won't have much competition, but there are only a few days to prepare for the competition not just phyiscally but mentally - I wonder how he will cope with that.

Spoiler Anyway, I've given up on the mainstream Japanese media and rely on alternative internet outlets, esp for news. Dentsu has a stranglehold on news topics and Japanese journalists are too afraid to go against them. Sounds familiar?
October 25, 20214 yr https://streamable.com/jq4e46 Well he's not peaking this early this season, that's for sure. I can see why he wants to go for 6 quads / include the 4Lo. It gives him flexibility to repeat the -3T rather than the 3A so he doesn't need to do a -2T which is a big BV difference. Hmmm. Also doing the -3F combo. He's REALLY trying to maximize BV. V interesting.
October 25, 20214 yr Just caught up and watched the final men's free skate. Nathan's music is so morbid it really doesn't suit him at all... he comes alive during the "remix" section but, ugh, I hate the music cuts. He needs to reevaluate these programs. Shoma's free skate is more fun to watch and it's got more interesting moments. It's nothing outstanding or out of the box but it's solid. Vincent certainly deserved to win, he landed everything solidly and it was clear he knew he had his chance to beat Nathan and took it. He must feel so good after that. Now we have to wonder if he peaked here. I'm not a huge fan of his programs either. The music for the FS is pretty much all one note until he finishes his jumps (like so many other music choices). It's no Heaven and Earth that's for sure.
October 25, 20214 yr Catching up men free skate. Some notes about Nathan - empty as always, referring both to choreo and emotions; he seemed very absent; inetersting to see that judges this time weren't so generous with GOE even for succesfull jump (still much more generous than for many other skaters but not as much as we've seen before); I really dislike this "modern" choreo sequence, arms movement particually are quite awful; he's obviously repeating solutions that worked for his brand in recent years but not in an ambitious way; a very common strategy, so I can uderstand that, but I don't think it's interesting enough to bring any excitment in olympic season even for his enthusiasts - judging from the domestic audience reaction.
