I know it's sacrilege to compare Yuuri to Yuzu I'm sorry in advance but the feelings I got when watching his FS reminded me of watching H&L this season?? Ep7's FS with the inner calculations and the 4F at the end reminds me of yoloaxel at 4CC and just :omg: my general reaction to that competition as a whole. And then everything coming together to make the world record in ep12 like all the pieces finally falling into place at worlds for Yuzu.

The programmes themselves are obviously totally different, but I think what I liked about YOI was the way I could get emotionally invested in Yuuri's performances and watch them develop over the 'season'. I know some people on tumblr who watched more for the romance aspect rather than the sport complained about seeing the same skate reproduced 4 or 5 times but personally I thought the development of Yuuri's FS was the highlight of the show.

I can not remember how I became aware of YOI. I know that I recorded all of NBC's figure skating segments this season and my husband and I were determined to watch all of the skaters and get prepared for the Olympic season. This led to interest by his family and before long we were all discussing Yuzu as well as the other skaters. But mostly Yuzu!!

I guess along the way, I was looking for You Tube videos of Yuzu and came across the anime section at the bottom of the screen. I've never read manga or watched anime. I guess it was the 'ice' in YOI that got my attention. I watched the episodes with English subtitles or English dubbing, so I don't know if anything was lost in the translation.

But, I do know that Yuri Katsuki was a character that I felt in my bones. Go figure. I loved his family, friends, the onsen, Hasetsu, and the ice rink. But, not so much Victor. I felt very protective of Yuri, and suspicious of Victor. Makkachin I loved.

I also loved the music. Not having watched any other anime like so many of you have, I thought the figure skating was impressive. The other skaters were so much fun to get to know. And, I have a special place in my heart for Yurio.

Yuri and Victor's pairs dance was pretty special too.

I expect Evgenia to do an EX to some YOI song next season.

 

omg I would die if this happens.

hardcore YoI fans would fall into a collective comatose from simultaneous heart failure

and Zhenya will break another WR, this time for an ex programme reaching 1 mil views in the shortest amount of time

WHEN can we start seeing current/r***d competing skaters skate to Yuri on Ice?? chop chop!

 

A r****d Chinese skater did part of Yuri on Ice in a show here (http://weibo.com/u3r4?profile_ftype=1&is_hot=1#_0). He works as a coach now and you can hear his students cheering him on in the background.

^^ wow that is awesome. and I'm getting shivers all over again from the beautiful piano :sadPooh: Someone seriously needs to make an exhibition out of it!!

 

Also, I think I can't be the only one feeling similar vibes from Viktor and Stephane right?? I know Viktor's key visuals are inspired by someone else (whose name I forgot but he has the cool silver hair we see Viktor rocks and the little smirk we've all seen), but when it comes to his mannerism/presence/habits/fashion, all I can see is Lambiel overload. The little finger on the chin, sassy hand on hips, awesome branded coats, even the double ID passes he wears on his neck for him and his student. And they both have this unique aura around them, almost untouchable by commoners, that is ironically quite similar to one another :grin:

I'd be beyond myself if I could see Lambiel skate to anything from YoI one day. If he actually skates to Viktor's routine.. urgh consider me deceased by then :s_hang
