Nothing is official, just speculation at this point.

In fact, since they've already postponed World Juniors, I wonder if Worlds are even happening this year.

I went to see for the worlds and here is a link which confirms that it will take place and I did not see anything in cancellation (well for the moment ..... )

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva praised Yuzu's 4A. We all know she is not the biggest Yuzu fan but i am grateful to everyone who is supportive and does not consider it a mistake.

"He is such a figure skating showman, he goes on the ice and you can see how he is charged by the audience, how the audience is charged by him. He is a very energetic athlete. He took such a risky step because he is a great athlete. He took this risk because he has nothing to lose, especially after the short program. He accidentally popped the salchow and immediately went to perform in the penultimate warm-up. It was a good opportunity to make history. He did not create history, but the best attempt that I have seen from him. For me, this person has already begun to make history, because he went to the quadruple axel, and it will be in the protocols, no longer with two carrots, but with one."

About JSF. Putting it in spoiler because it is long and it will always be only speculations.

Great summary! Much appreciated, and it brought to light things that I didn't know (or read but forgot).

Well .. Yagudin is a disgrace to Russian skating in general. He crossed out his entire heritage with his behavior, as a commentator and a person. And about Plushenko, my opinion is that he would never understand Yuzu’s desire not for a medal, but for a dream. He himself aspired only to medals

Expand

Yep. Yag during his competitive time made a lot of headlines for his questionable comments and behavior. So, I don't expect anything from him. (Plus, he hates Plush to the bones, and Yuzu loves Plush so much, so I can only imagine that he can't be too thrilled...) A good athlete and a good human being are two orthogonal things.

On Yuzu's Worlds etc. I'm so glad that he's not seen and not making any statements yet. He just needs time to process what happened. We all needed time to process the stuff in the last week, I'm sure it's much harder for him. I hope he'll just take all the time he needs, all the rehab etc, and hopefully, he can enjoy one or two moments of this Olympics.

NC also said he might go to Worlds he is unsure. So if NC goes, I probably won't watch worlds as the result will be obvious. I don't think Yuzu will go because he said he spilled everything here and that he is unsure about challenging 4A again when Shuzuo San asked him. Also Yuzu is injured and has little time to practice because of injury.

I know, but as Wingman said, maybe it' s too soon... I'll try to be patience 😅

Item 7 is my personal whim. Don't they really understand that such a symbiosis of talent, love for one's work, passion for external data and human qualities is, in principle, not easy to replace. People of the stature of Yuzu are a rare and valuable gift from heaven. It is foolish of them to expect that their galaxy of "new stars", which I saw in the Japan Championship, will attract viewers

This seems to be a good article and google translate works well:

"Figure skating is dead." Social media reaction to Chen's world record

https://m.sportsdaily.ru/articles/figurnoe-katanie-mertvo-reaktsiya-sotssetey-na-mirovoy-rekord-chena-otobrannyy-u-khanyu?utm_source=yxnews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fyandex.ru%2Fnews%2Fsearch%3Ftext%3D

Btw, I was searching in western news to see what the dominant narration is now. I feel uncomfortable but it looks like they are pushing him to retirement. They also mostly imply that Yuzu opened the door for the 4A but won't be the one who will land it first. That tweet from Olympics and Adam, Nathan and Meryl were speaking as if they are doing a tribute to Yuzu. As if Yuzu is retiring and the fact that it was recorded previously, confirms that they were planning to show him the exit door from long ago.

I do believe Yuzu can move forward, he is just peaking, has a lot more to offer and I 100% believe the only person who can land 4A is him and only him. He just needs better luck for the next competition and a more healthy ankle/body that comes with a good rest/physio. I hope it's Yuzu himself that decides when the best time is to hang the boots, not others.

At first i initally puzzled why a country would treat their best and most famous athlete like that and thought it was all speculations.By after a few years as fan and its become more and more evident .I still cant believe that they treat their best athelete like that.In my country if an athelete such as Yuzu exist their will be respected and rewarded so much by the sports body and even receive a title from the government.Even there are factions in japan skating world and Yuzu do not belong to the right group why they cant just be pround as whole country and have spirit of patriotism?

Expand

I've been wondering about this for a long time too. My conclusion - Due to his talents and hard work, Yuzu has been doing great, winning comps, earning titles and breaking records without any help from JSF all these years. On the contrary, JSF can benefit from his success by striking deals with others to underscore Yuzu in return for help in propping up scores of their preferred skaters in whatever disciplines. Japan is keen to build up other disciplines so that they can go for Olympic team event to increase their chances of having more Olympic medalists besides Yuzu. This helps to explain why Japanese judges are so harsh on Yuzu as they have to return the favour their preferred skaters received.

I don't think it has much to do with whether Yuzu refused to become a jump machine. In fact Yuzu has consistently skated programs with 4 or even 5 quads since 2018. That's hardly falling behind technically in any way. Shoma has been a mess this whole quad and he still gets the benefit of the doubt just fine. ISU wanted Nathan because USFSA is powerful (it helped that Nathan was consistent) and JSF wanted Shoma/Yuma because they also just preferred them (local politics?). That's really all there is to it.

Expand

There is absolutely nothing that Yuzu could have done to be treated differently by the JSF. He was considered an outlier from the very beginning because he is from and trained in rural Sendai and not in one of the powerhouse figure skating centers. When he won his first national championship in 2012 by beating Daisuke Takahashi who was at the height of his popularity, Yuzu was saddened by the negative reaction of a lot of the audience. Daisuke Takahashi went to university in Osaka in 2004 and an ice rink was built for him and other elite skaters. Shoma Uno was born in and trains in Nagoya. Yuma Kagiyama’s father is a former Olympian and they train in Yokohama. The JSF was just waiting for someone from the mainstream of Japanese figure skating power to come along to replace Yuzu.

The JSF only used or uses Yuzu when it suits its purposes. I have already posted about the former president of the JSF, Seiko Hashimoto, and how much she hated Yuzu for supplanting Daisuke Takahashi. As much as she dislikes Yuzu, she never fails to take advantage of an opportunity to use him whenever she feels that it is to her benefit. For example, when Yuzu was presented with The People’s Honour Award, she planted herself in a chair immediately to the right of Yuzu as if to say that she had something to do with him receiving the honour. Her presence was redundant and then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe did not even acknowledge her.

The press battle for a spot to interview Yuzu seems super intense lol. Now we know those reporters flocking in the mixed zone are just a fraction of the real number.

There was a lottery to decide who got to interview Yuzu! OMG! I can't imagine that this has ever happened before.

And the guy on the left pumping his fist was clearly one of the lucky winners. :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:
