Literally half the skaters are there now in Beijing,  I've seen that Shcherbakova/Trusova/Valieva have reached Olympic village, Jason is there, Roman Sadovsky is there, I'm pretty sure that half of team Japan is there by now and Yuzu is once again being his usual ninja self 😂 in all seriousness I do hope he hasn't run into any issues  though that wouldn't be good

But as a fanyu, I will continue to order Irene gloves even though I already have like 6 or 7 pairs. :redface:

The music was already set and Jeffrey was doing the choreography, but Yuzu wanted to create more of a "connection" with the audience. This was a new experience for me, as I have always choreographed his free programs until now.

Q: What was the choreography process like?

Shae: I felt very honoured and happy, but the first thing I had to make sure of was that Jeffrey and Brian (Orser) would accept it. Because you can't just take someone else's choreography and change it. Jeffrey replied, "You can rearrange it any way you like", and Brian welcomed my input. Yuzu wanted this programme to be the culmination of all the work that Jeffrey and I had done together over the years as his choreographers. The actual work took about a week... well, a bit more if you include the breaks.

Q: What part of the programme did you work on?

Shae: It was a process of reviewing the overall choreography and adjusting the details. Yuzu wanted to make his ideas for the programme more understandable to the audience. First of all, Yuzu sent me a lot of videos of him performing. At that point, the overall impression had been created, but there were a lot of details that could be refined. For example, in the beginning he wanted to express that he was in a very cold (sad? dark?) place, but it didn't come across clearly. I performed my own interpretation and sent it back to Yuzu. I also worked with him remotely during his training.

Q: Hanyu said, "Shae-Lynn has created an emotional story for me". What kind of story is it?

Shae: First, he explained about the music and how he felt about it. Then I made my own interpretation of it. In the beginning, Yuzu is in a silent "coldest place in the world," and he steps out of it all alone. After the first jump, he sees a small light. He goes towards the light, but when he embraces it, it disappears. But then he sees another light, and he goes towards it this time, but the light also disappears. This is repeated several times, and the "light" symbolizes his skating life so far. The support he has gotten, the cheers from the audience, the great performances, the successes. But although they are beautiful, they can't last forever. In the final highlight of the program, he continues to fight until the end, accompanied by strong music. And he accepts that everything in this world is in transition. Yuzu has been through all these experiences, so he knows that these ("lights") exist.

Q: Finally, what kind of competition do you think the Beijing Winter Olympics will be like? And what do you expect from Hanyu?

Shae: I'm sure the athletes will deliver great performances. That's for sure. I've been to the Olympics myself and it's a very special place where anything can happen. I can't wait to see the Games. I hope all the competitors will give their best performance and I hope the judges will do a good job. And I hope that Yuzu will give a performance that will make him feel proud of himself.

brb crying over the emotional story behind Rondo :crybaby:What really sets Yuzu apart from others is him telling stories through his skates. So magical... ofc he has the exceptional technical ability to do that flawlessly too.
