And won the free at GPF with 4 and then won 4CC overall with 5 even with shaky jumps.  He's also Team USA which will go a long way with politiks.

This is the reason why IMO I think him having a performance he is proud of is more important than winning. His performance is in his control while the scores are not.

Yes, his Mom went to Sochi. From 25:00 of the bellow clip, Yuzu said he met his Mom and they discussed what went wrong with his free program.

(「どうしてこんなことになった?」 Sorry, there's no English substitution.) I think his father and sister were also there. The famous story is that, however, they couldn't see their son's medal ceremony up close because JSF didn't arrange special family tickets for his family. The source is from a tabloid magazine, so I don't know if it's true, but I suspect it's true. Hopefully, next year his family will be able to enjoy their son's medal ceremony fully from the family seats!:8430721:

Thx for sharing^^

I would take a flawed, but still solid, winning freeskate because even in Sochi he had stars in his eyes knowing he won it. But I would settle for a performance he is proud of as well no matter the outcome.

Loving all these discussions. So interesting to read and so many opinions, most of it I agree with or makes me think.

Question: did Hanyu proclaim sometime last season that it was his last performance of H&L? The reception wasn't as hot as Seimei but is there a chance he might repeat this fs for the Olympics instead and changing the last jump or jump layout?

It's probably been already said, maybe by even Hanyu himself, but focusing on securing his fifth GPF gold medal should be his immediate goal and priority as it will help him build momentum and tbh whoever wins GPF over Hanyu (if it isnt Hanyu himself) will go into the Olympics as the favorite of the season which matters the most as skaters will show growth that matters the most (or vice versa) this season.

I want Hanyu to skate a performance at Olympics that he can be happy with even if he doesn't get gold but tbh my heart will still break if he doesn't get OGM because if losing his world title for two years taught us anything about Hanyu, it's that he also takes as much pride in being able win over strong competitors and losing will not only gut him but he might not have chance to retake it like he did for worlds.

Well, he has expressed himself that he's aware of the lukewarm reception of H&L. I doubt he will repeat it during the Olympic season while everyone is throwing around warhorses, also because he has already performed it to perfection... although the latter doesn't seem to be a valid argument anymore.

Tbh everybody is kinda forgetting Boyang again... :tongueyuzu:

He's the D10 of this generation - the guy with a weaker fed who comes out of the dark and causes upsets.

Though I think he's a contender for silver or bronze but not gold. Not yet anyway.

Only because he's no one's favourite. I think his skating needs improving as much as Nathan's, but somehow people can imagine Nathan winning hypotetical gold.

I still feel sad about this. H&L is just... Yuzu, for me.

Similar here. I can still recall the first time I watched H&L live at last year's SCAC; it almost brought me to tears especially during the stsq and two 3As in the second half. It will remain as my top 3 from Yuzu:knc_yuzu2:

Because USA. And because he had better PCS out of the gate. What he got this past season took two seasons for Boyang to achieve. This is why, as much as I love Boyang, I don't consider him a threat for the gold, only for the podium.

Mte. I actually prefer Boyang over Nathan but Nathan has a bigger fed and more hype on his side. The media too takes part in this.

I mean, that shiny bubble that inflated over Nathan's Nats scores and ubers gushing over it says the USA is serious.
