By the way, RE: studying figures... Takeshi Honda said in an interview with PJ Kwong that in JPN they still do figures. (Prolly the reason most JPN skaters have good basic SS).

I would be very curious to see if Yuzu did figures under Nanami-sensei, and did he do them under Brian...?

Also, on Yuzu not doing the Team Event:

While I'm partly concerned about whether that means he isn't in competition shape, I can also see the arguments for not doing the Team Event even if he IS in competition shape because of potential pressure if he does well / negative momentum if he doesn't. Plus Sportymags' note on the flu spreading at the athletes' village... that would be something Yuzu would best to avoid--especially because he missed the 2016 nationals due to catching the flu.

So for now, all we can do is wait and have faith.

がんばれ、ゆづ!

Just saw the news and I actually don't mind that Yuzuru skips the team event because he can conserve energy for the individual event. Plus, he has experience from competing at the team event in 2014, so I'm sure this decision was made with 100% intent for his well-being and performance. Whichever colour metal he gets, we all know that he's the best male figure skater of all time. :2thumbsup:

Also so excited for the Olympics coming up!! It's going to be such a huge competition that everyone watches!

They made a miniature Yuzu (complete with small figure skates) :smiley-laughing021:Keep being extra JPN media.. Are they talking about Yuzu's chances?

What a cute Yuzu... not quite bobblehead!

I think there are also quasi-figures of Javi, Shoma and Nate from the same show from another GIF...

We don’t know a lot of facts about Yuzu ( current physical condition, training...) but one thing I know for sure is that he Will do his best with the assistance of  a team of caring , experienced people. All the discussed topics fan have had , they must have mulled over multiple times. Maybe everything is in his calculation, and he has proven  to be very smart and and to be able to see the big picture before. We fans will laugh and cry with him . And we are all thankful for this journey beside him.I believe in Yuzu. I believe in the magic of  Seimei . I believe in Chopin . We will prevail !

Just saw news, I knew he would prioritize more training time lmao of course  i was actually a bit worried abt the dusty weather n the effect it would have on him staying there a week or so before the event not that my worries are rational or anything so:slinkaway:

this means I can watch team event without getting heart attack tho  I know he will come back strong, I believe in yuzu!

Edit: woah, just read some of the posts here... Umm don't worry guys he /always/ has momentum. Reigning Olympic n World champion titles has that effect. The crowd at PC will also be behind him, which he can feel the energy (n absorb them to become his power lol). Its gonna be fine. Take a deep breath.

I read the sports hochi article and also refered to some translation I saw. The wording is that his recovery is a lot later than expected, and they’re opting out of TE to avoid extra burden on his body. So it is for the reason that we fear. Nevertheless, all the pros discussed above still stands. Also, Yuzu as we know, heals slowly but peaks fast.

This is always getting more dramatic when you think it can’t anymore. Talk about Yuzu the JUMP Manga Hero™️. As someone who’s going to sit in the stadium,  I feel like walking into Narnia (under the rule of the white witch....) or something. I’m prepared to explode into a firework before he steps on the ice. :smiley-rpg012: Well, being the manga hero that he is, don’t they always come back from the most impossible of situations? Like Uchimura said, when it comes down to it, “the one with the strongest heart will win.” Mental strength is what sets him apart.

Panicky post ahead::81:

What I'm worried about is not him doing team event or anything. It's that I'm worried if his injury is still there, or if he has flu and been unable to practice properly. And remember it's not quad lutz causing the injury, it's him doing it while he has a fever. And...  this year's flu strain in north america is worse than ever. Ahh I just want to isolate him away from all virus and bacteria in the world. :tumblr_inline_ncmif7esGm1rpglid:

Please be healthy and happy Yuzuru:tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

Well finally one of the big questions is answered. I honestly think that skipping or not skipping the event at the end leaves advantages and disadvantages in which nothing is ideal. That's the reality of the situation, it's not ideal and it's quite sad when you think he's been preparing for this for four years BUT at the same time since we know how passionate he is I know at least that no matter what the result is, Yuzuru will give us performances to remember, with his whole heart and passion reflected on the ice.

I'm not particularly taking Yuzuru opting out of TE as an indication he is not yet totally fit to compete. His team could be taking the injury into account. Even in healed, ligament damage takes a while, he will still need to strap his ankle for like 6 months. The ankle may be healed sufficiently for him to train and compete but it is still vulnerable to reinjury. Not doing the TE lowers the risk, because it gives him a bit more time to train carefully and give it sufficient rest and care, but also cuts out the risk of him competing on it while tired. Between the Team SP and the individual Men's SP is just one week - that must be draining, emotionally and physically. There were plenty of pros and cons for either decision; whether he chose to do the team event or not. There are cons to not doing team but there are also pros, and there would have been cons to opting into it too. I don't really think team would have made much of a difference to the fact it's the first competition in almost 4 months. He'd be going into it with the same kind of mental state either way. I mostly think it was likely a choice made because the team event just isn't a priority - Japan is unlikely to medal even if Yuzuru competed, and his primary focus is the individual event to win the gold medal. Now it is his singular focus. That's all.

And, look at ACI. He's capable of producing clean programs straight off the back of a period of not competing. Sure, the free skate at ACI wasn't his best but the circumstances are also different here - he's more familiar with the layout, even if there hasn't been much road testing in competitions, he's had time to adjust and refine in practice, and he's had more than a week to rest the injury. I believe he'll be going into the individual events focused, motivated, fit and not overly stressed. The little media blackout as given him some space and 'quiet', the pressure from media is pretty much off him since people are looking to Nathan as the favourite to win - which will add to Yuzuru's motivation to prove himself as far from out of the race as well as giving him that feeling of chasing from behind, which is where he typically excels.

It's easy to say 'this is a bad idea' or 'he should do this', even giving reasons, but the fact is we don't know what the outcome will be and we don't know how that outcome could change if he made a different decision. We don't know how doing/not doing the team event would affect him mentally or physically. But Yuzuru and his team have a better idea of that than we do. He probably thought very hard about this and weighed up what he thought would be best for him and what choice would give him the better chance of success.

I'm not freaking out because I'm worried he's still not fit to compete. I think he'll be ready.

I am however going to f*cking throw up because that means when I go to the practice on the 15th, assuming he goes to that practice, it will be the first time he's skated publicly in like 4 months and then I have to sit front row for his first sp since CoR. I wish the events were later in the day so it would be slightly more socially acceptable to sneak vodka into a goddamn waterbottle.

Don't worry guys yuzu will be fine :10742289: Going to TE means 1 week of less ice time, giving he only came back to the ice last month I think skipping TE is the wisest desicion, his body might lost it if suddenly he cannot train that much, ice time in PC is limited after all whereas in TCC he can train whenever..

hugs to fellow satellites who is anxious or panic about this! :10742289::10742289: I believe in our shonen hero :smiley-laughing021:

very appropriate to be made a shonen jump series indeed

Tbh I always thought the TE was a waste of energy and I'm still upset the ISU won't move that stupid event until after the individual events. It's kind of dumb imo.

I don't really understand the need for it. We have WTT anyway.

And to think all that drama about him repeating his programs....they might serve him well this time.

(how many days are between the TE and the men's event???)
