well done mitsuki!!!!! rika just landed 3a+3t+2t and 3a absolutely perfectly in her free skate

nathan and shoma in interviews: yeah we started doing harder quads because of boyang doing three in his junior free skate and then landing the quad lutz so well in his first senior season, and because yuzuru did them with such quality media: ??? who that ??? justice for boyang part 32090489 tbh nathan is so level headed and hardworking himself, but all of this media attention, articles written with barely any research and baseless facts leave such a bad taste in my mouth. i wish they'd just let his skills speak for themselves sometimes, because a lot of it feels like they're overcompensating when they dont need to he's clearly talented and the judges are clearly rewarding him.

Congratulate skaters with their Birthdays

going into sochi, yuzu was first in the world standings. half of the top ten were japanese ;_____; the depth was insane (wayback machine is useful!!) also most articles about yuzu currently are for clicks and views, looking for traffic and revenue from an accident. we dont know about yuzu's actual condition unless it comes from him or someone close to him. no need to get stressed over everything! (harder said than done, i know ) it's been a rough few days for yuzu fans, but he's working on recovering and all we need to do is trust him and wait for proper news. also also, the jsf would have to be completely deranged to not give him an olympic spot as the reigning world and olympic champion, and he set a new short program world record less than two months ago, proving himself to still be number one as recently as september. i seriously dont think there is any need to worry there.

im not sure if this has been posted anywhere on the forum (i cant access it properly lol) but boyang is injured recover soon and take care of yourself!!!

i honestly find it incredibly disheartening that a messy nathan with pops/stepouts can outscore boyang's highest pcs on a completely clean performance, but such is the system and federations play a huge role in their scores, especially in the olympic season. i dont think nathan winning an olympic gold will create a true lasting influence on the state of figure skating’s popularity in the us. i think they’ll need a ladies champion, because that’s mostly where the inspiration for new skaters seems to come from, taking source from things i see across the internet. and frankly, i dont see any of the us ladies currently beating any of the russian ladies, or the japanese ladies unless there is a complete disaster, and i cant count out the two top canadian ladies either. its so improbable that seven girls would all have horrendous skates that meant the us ladies could take gold in singles. davis and white won gold in sochi, it didnt boost anything, the shibutani's push the social media side and still aren't bringing in fans, although their vlogs are very appreciated by current fans. lysacek's win didn't help anything in 2010. nathan seems to be more popular in the japanese side of fs fandom, where it looks like the men take dominance because of yuzu and his popularity, which is great for him as a skater to have good support behind him, but means virtually nothing to the us. however, mention the ladies champions of the 90s-00s and people will know who they are. of course, i do not want nathan to fail. if he skates the best on the night and wins, ill be elated for him. same for any of the men. but to be pushed and pushed through politicking, it isnt fair on the other skaters, and it isnt fair on him either, he has the talent and potential to win through the power of his own skating.

i think mikhail has the best chance to break into the top six, with strong foundations and great jump technique (other than his lack of flip, im really not a fan of when skaters choose to completely omit a jump instead of working to fix it ) and a strong federation certaintly isnt hurting him, but he absolutely needs to land the quad lutz and the salchow, and not pop his axels.

its funny as boyang has said in previous interviews that he wasn’t a strong jumper to begin with, (from here), but now has one of the best and certaintly one of the most consistent quad lutzes, and his quad toe/sal are pretty good too. so i dont doubt that he could improve his performance qualities to the point where his mistakes arent as evident, in the future.

completely understandable, i just dont agree. i certaintly think nathan has excellent foundations as demonstrated in his junior career, but thus far has been underwhelming in his senior career because of an extreme focus on increasing tech. at this current moment, id have nathan below boyang on pcs generally, although it wouldnt be by an excessive amount. i wouldnt compare the two to shoma though, as id put these two almost equal, say, 85 pts in a free skate, whereas shoma has a different type of quality, 88+ for example, javi at around 92+ and patrick/yuzu 95+. stylistically id probably put nathan 1st of the younger guys this season, because of boyangs free skate being a mess currently, and i find shoma’s programs fall flat for me, compared to some of the quirkier things he’s put out, like his 15/16 short program.

if we’re categorising skating skills as one has good and the other not so good, i certaintly wouldnt put nathan and boyang this way around. he’ll never be patrick chan, but boyangs edges are decent, his speed tends to be better than or equal to nathan’s and he utilises multidirectional and one foot skating much more in his programs. nathan is often noted for his lack of knee bend too, and while boyang doesnt use his knees as much as he probably should, he does use them a little more. thats just my take on things though.

great news! -
im so glad to hear yuzuru's knee is in better condition

i think the judges weren't too bad with scoring it to be honest, as soon as he delivered it well at worlds with no falls or major stepouts like he did at other competitions all throughout last season, his pcs was as high as 86 and thats a great score for him, spiderman was judged harsher (should have broken 100 at worlds imo) i think he could score more than that in pcs this season IF he goes back to la strada, because he's worked hard on improving his components score since then. maybe improving the transitional quality and quantity in la strada would be a good move, rather than making his new fs work because its just miles more difficult - although id like to see him come back to star wars w/ better music cuts and choreography after this season.
-
to be honest, i think boyang made la strada work. i watched some of the mens free with my parents who aren't figure skating fans and they loved it, they found him so exciting and where he plays up to the audience in that program works, instead of looking a little disjointed (imo, of course). in an olympic year, i think that has value because he's going to be reaching millions more people than he would have last season, leaving that impression and making people remember who he is, is good for him. keeping crouching tiger, hidden dragon, but going back to la strada seems to me the best move he could take at the moment. this star wars program is just too messy for an olympic year and i dont think there is real time to refine it before the gp series starts... hopefully next season he can get a different choreographer that fits him better.

happy birthday boyang!! i hope to see him on lots of podiums this season

also, while it seems unlikely that the top six wouldnt be locks for the gpf, anything can happen really! i dont think many people last year would have bet on world medallist boyang not making the final, or on adam rippon making it in his place. this season is a new kind of pressure that half of the top six have never before experienced - which is where javi, yuzu and patrick will have an advantage, and gp's will be much more difficult because winning medals on the gp/at the gpf will certaintly set them up for media hype going into the new year. anything can happen, no matter how unlikely in this sport take it as it comes. yuzu's in the best condition he's been in for years, mentally and physically it seems, we just need to trust in him.
-
stats about yuzu's specific elements can be found here: http://skatedb.net/modules/skateDB/index.php?page=player&playerid=618 you can see the success rates for his jumps, the highest amounts of points he's gotten for an element, his record pcs scores, success rates on jumps, if that was something you wanted to know about/share! this website also holds stats for other skaters, if you wanted to compare
-
every time i'm waiting for the scores, im holding my breath like "oh no, they could do it, they could give it a higher score than yuzu's" he'll just break them and break them again out of spite, like at nhk '15 when boyang set the record for tech score and yuzu went out and beat it right after. im sure he'll be fine though, overall. he'll drag the gold medal from the judges hands if he has to

whats the point in having a -5 at all if it wont be utilised on a fall though? what else can it be used on? i completely understand how unwarranted the amount of points you would lose is, but the -5/50% deduction is absolutely redundant if it wont be used on falls. at the end of the day, that is the biggest mistake you can make on a jump. stumbles, step outs, underrotations, wrong edges are all jump imperfections, but in no way as severe as a fall and not as jarring to the flow of the program. falls are penalised enough under the current system with -4 goe on quads and a mandatory -1 deduction, in my opinion. the whole system is fine, lol, the judging isnt, but i think ive mentioned that enough in my previous posts lmao. why is the isu an edgy teenager, hating anything popular and trying to do the exact opposite of what people want them to do???

exactly - he's looking for a longer career. he's not looking to go all out in one place and win and then retire, its sustainable thinking from him and his team, and shows that he honestly cares about improving his basics instead of packing himself full of technical content and neglecting everything else. he tested five quads at 4cc, it didnt work, and reverted back to four, keeping level headed instead of running in all guns blazing with more quads and that's why he's now a world bronze medallist for another year. also i feel like im coming across as if i hate nathan - i dont, i just dont agree with his strategies, i have nothing against him!

i just dont think this change will benefit anyone in reality, and they are shooting themselves in the foot by demotivating skaters and the people who watch the sport, spend money going to events etc.. they're trying to take back control in an aspect that doesnt need to be taken and its idiotic. fix your judging first!! and concerning them specifically using boyang as the cover for the article; boyang has the technique to sustain him, the ability to improve his pcs as he's already demonstrated, and the drive to stay in the sport for longer than the us' top skater. they pretend like he isnt a threat, when really for the future of us figure skating, hes the biggest and most formidable competitor they will face once yuzuru, javier and patrick have all retired, along with shoma. he has a quad lutz worthy of high goe, he has great height and distance, often good extension on the landing, good flow, effortless throughout the jump when he hits it and thats already a +2 under the current system, and most of his jumps are the same when he's hitting them like he did at worlds last season. with difficult entry and steps before them, he'll be hitting a +3. so they can use him now as an example of everything thats wrong with the system, but boyang is actually working on improving in every aspect, and i dont even want to imagine the place he could be in with his skating within the next few years, barring any injuries that could stop him. and he's already a 2x world medallist, so even with politics against him, hes doing juuuust fine.
