I don't know the rights and wrongs of any of it but personnel change over the years, the powers that be eventually retire and sometimes get replaced by broader minded individuals. He's a gracious person in victory and defeat - and it might amuse him to do something like that in retirement - unless they've really upset him and he's holding a grudge! I imagine if an invitation ever came he'd do it if he felt like it, which is as it should be.

I love the Italian version of the flower ceremony! I seem to remember seeing somewhere a vid of Max in a studio after the SP at the Olympics arguing with a lot of other pundits round a table- does anyone else remember that?

The music cuts are really terrible, and I don't like the choreo either. I feel quite depressed about it - SW could have been good, as you say there's plenty to choose from. I hoped using a top choreographer was going to move his skating along a bit, but it doesn't look as though she's a good fit for him- though the music arranger hasn't given them much to work with

Also no one interrupts you - unlikely to get phone calls or people dropping in at 3 in the morning. I have the most trouble early evening.

Favorite commentators and their famous lines

You have to ignore them and be grateful that they've at least employed someone who knows what they're talking about in general unlike that useless woman wittering alongside him. -

Was just watching the BBC commentary version of 2017 Worlds, and while I deplore Robin Cousins lack of prep I approve of the following- when asked whether Hanyu has done enough to get on the podium he replies:- "Oh yes. I'm being emphatic, because you can't - no one will- not even Javi- will have the delicacy of this jumping, this technique, it is delicate even though he's flying through the air and forcing his body to do these quads, they're light and elegant......there's no tension in his upper body when he rotates....." -
Sleepwalking is scary - I grew out of that thankfully - must be a real pain in adulthood. The advantage is that insomnia means it's easy to be awake for competitions out of your time zone, provided you can work out the time it will all be happening where you are which I'm not very good at.

I've watched Boyangs programmes from Finlandia now- I like the SP, I like the music, it has the potential to give him a new dimension, and if he can grow into it he might avoid the criticism Fernandez gets from time to time for sticking to certain types of programme. However that FS- I have no words, and not in a good way. Planets and Star Wars could have been good but not chopped about and thrown together like that. It looked and sounded clumsy to me - wasted opportunity.

Sleep? Who needs that? I don't sleep terribly well at the best of times and when I'm away with poor/no wi fi, carefully eking out my data roaming allowance I really miss being able to amuse myself with all the chat on here. Housework suffers badly though! On the other hand I'm not the only person in the house with opposable thumbs capable of operating simple machinery....

It was more "what the hell are all these fixtures and since when has anyone followed motor racing" - the presence of the world MAG championships in the mix gave it away to the ones who occasionally pay attention, and though they are amused they are actually being helpful and accommodating.

Well, often the kuyashii fuels the comeback, and the deeper it is the more dramatic the rebound- see World Championships 2017

It really wasn't that bad - better pop and save the knee than risk the rest of the season, a lesson that he seems to have absorbed from experience.

Victory!!!!! A weekend was suggested as a possible free date and was rejected because there was a commitment on the calendar! Who knew a simple app could be so powerful? Now I can watch whatever I can stream of Rostelecom instead of doing the polite stuff- and it wasn't me who rejected it! Maybe years of tolerance of muddied oafs and flannelled fools on the TV and in the form of expensive tickets is finally bringing me my glittering reward.

The Rostelecom cup has been noticed on the family calendar with a degree of startlement followed by amusement. No.2 son is going to find me a cable to watch it on the TV screen instead of my iPad which will be a big help and puts him in my good books for the rest of the season

Glad to hear it - thought the hydroblade in the flesh so to speak might finish you off!

They're quite understated - but no doughnuts so ok I think. You've got to admit Sochi medals were unusually pretty and hard to follow

Or dark red

Totally agree.

I am glad not to be the only person here who remembers JC in action - at the time he was wonderful and even in bad quality YouTube videos I think the lightness of his landings, on the most difficult (at the time ) jumps is still evident. I'm afraid I can't agree on Shoma at the moment- it's not lack of charisma - it's the wrenching landings of his jumps. YH has the ease with 3A and quads that JC had with 2A and triples 40 years ago. We can agree to disagree

I was lucky with my first 'complete' skater John Curry- the general pressures were much less and I was young enough to believe he couldn't lose! ( see @Yatagarasuthread on classic performances for any detail). Now I'm all too aware of politics, media pressure, fan pressure etc etc etc. I don't actually care about those - I don't like it but there's nothing I can do about it. I hope he gets everything this season but most of all I would like performances he is happy with - I won't say satisfied because he's a perfectionist but - reasonably happy with ??

There is a long term ebb and flow between increasing jump eras (80s - Plushenko ) and 'artistic ' ones ( I know artistic isn't the right word in the current era but it sort of covers the ground) such as 2010. In my view it doesn't apply to YH - he has both. I waited 40 years to see another complete skater- treasure him while we have him, regardless of results - I plan to.

Exactly how I feel about it. I have a look at what's kicking around on the internet from time to time, but I stop if something starts to send my BP up, and I don't post anywhere else because I don't trust the membership of any forum but this one. It's amazing how un fan like some fansites can become, and as a newbie the nastiness of the tone of some so called FS fans was a big surprise to me.

Comfort eating - and it's Tuesday and the sun isn't over the yardarm here so I can't hit the gin. if anyone felt like doing a BV table I'd be grateful - I'm practically innumerate

Why? There are all sorts on here- go ahead and open one! I put the 'costumes we love to hate' up and though it's been a bit of a choking hazard for the unwary it's good to have something frivolous when there's nothing much going on.
