  1. What a deal!! You only have to buy a clear file, and they give you a choice of bedding product, up to and including mattresses...
  2. From the protocols (that I could find) and the Planet competition threads*, the GP and national championship jump layouts: Yuzu: SCI SP 4S 3A 4T3T FS 4Lo 4S 3Lz 4T 4Teu3F 3A3T 3A2T NHK SP 4S 3A 4T3T FS 4Lo 4S 3Lz 4T 2T 4T3T 3Aeu3S GPF SP 4S 3A 4Tcombo FS 4Lo 4Lz 3Lz 4S 4Teu3F 3F 4T2T 1A JNats SP 4S 4T3T 3A FS 4Lo 4S 2Lz 4T 4Teu3F 3A 3T (was this a combo? not sure) 3A So Origin 2.0 was different every time, Otonal was different at JNats Nathan: SkAm SP 4Lz 3A 4T3T FS 3Lz3T 4F 4Teu2F 3A 4S 2T 3A2T IdeF SP 4T3T 3A 4F FS 4Lz 3Lz2T 4Teu3F 3A 4S 4T 3A2T GPF SP 4Lz 3A 4T3T FS 4F3T 4Lz 4Teu3S 3A 4S 4T 3Lz3T USNats SP 4F 3A 4T3T FS 4F3T 4S 4Teu3S 3A 3Lo 4T 3F3T Again, SP repeated the layout at SkAm and GPF, FS was different every time To make a long story short, we're both wrong, both skaters alter the layout from competition to competition. And hats off to them, it made me tired just typing these out. * I didn't check these against video of the performances, just trusting the satellites who post these layouts that they're correct.
  3. Yuzu has said in interviews that he'll change his layouts based on ice condition, how he feels physically, and how many points he needs to get aka strategy. The fact that he's able to YOLO jumps to save a program and get more points is proof of this too. To my knowledge Nathan never plays with his jump layout.
  4. I think most of the time when FS people talk about 'consistency', they're referencing the ability to skate a clean program and in particular to land every jump 'cleanly' . Both things which one can get by sticking to a heavily-repeated program layout. I think the fact that Yuzu changes his layout according to conditions and is still able to land almost everything exceedingly well speaks to a different skill, that of knowing all your individual elements inside and out and being able to shift on the fly no matter what's happening. As an analogy, Nathan is like the guy who learned to prepare a bunch of recipes perfectly and so he has a reputation as a good cook, and Yuzu is the guy who knows every cooking techniques there is, has an intimate understanding of the science of taste and flavour, and fearlessly draws on this knowledge to whip up amazing and delicious new dishes that no one has ever tasted before.
  5. Which one has the Yuzu and Javi photo again? Because that image is absolute pure goodness....
  6. You only get consistency from doing the same thing over and over and over again, robotically almost. Which means that skaters who are 'consistent' are not growing and evolving and taking risks. Yuzu is always innovating, always trying to go one better, to do more. Therefore, saying he's not consistent is irrelevant; the concept is simply not applicable to what he does. Unlike Nathan, Yuzu is skating a different program layout nearly every time. We should be celebrating his ability to continually produce good performances in spite of that. He should be getting bonus points for his creativity and innovation. The judges are smoking the good stuff if they can't see that.
  7. I believe Nam has mentioned it in interviews. My understanding is, they have basic funding from Skate Canada for things like competition travel and for the rest there's this: http://canadianathletesnow.ca/can-fund-stats/ https://skatecanada.ca/skate-canada-high-performance-grants/#:~:text=SKATE CANADA ATHLETE FUND,dance and synchronized skating teams. Note that Skate Canada states that athletes can only receive one of the two programs - if they're getting a Sport Canada grant, they're not eligible for the Skate Canada one. So, basically they can get up to $21,100* each year, if they're a carded athlete (ie. senior elite, usually it's people who are top-ranked in the world, not just in Canada) plus travel expenses. Not exactly princely sums. IMO it would make more sense in the current situation for the provincial sports organizations to directly buy the ice time and donate it to the various clubs rather than fund individual athletes, but that's not exactly something that can happen quickly either. *to put this in perspective, the average rent for a bachelor (aka bedsit) apartment in Toronto just hit $1683/mo, Good thing so many skaters live with their parents.
  8. I'm looking forward to seeing how he's skating after a year off. I expect good things.
  9. Well, it's a simply enormous space and the roof is supported by huge beams and trusses in a very unique design. Like most of the older buildings in Lunenburg, it was built by the boat makers themselves so it strongly resembles the inside of a boat hull, but turned upside down. It's too bad there aren't many pictures of the interior because the interior structure is actually one of the things that make it a historically desirable building @memae Try this: https://www.saltwire.com/news/local/lunenburgs-big-boat-shed-receives-15m-in-federal-provincial-funding-307089/?location=nova-scotia
  10. I'm still trying figure out whether it was a sudden fit of religion. I mean, it was a total monk tonsure. And Switzerland is a hotbed of Trappists...
  11. Can't beat the Saitama organizing committee matching the Kiss and Cry to Haru yo Koi, though. That was truly another level. Now I wish I could make a Yuzu-matching K&C... would love to do one for Origin 2.0...
  12. Ah, that does my heart good....
  13. Aw, ToshI! (why'm I crying?)... "I'm only good at doing my best"....
  14. temperate, in other words. I agree with you on HYK, but Swanyu to me feels cool...gently cool, not chilly, but a little too remote and ethereal to be warm.
  15. When you say 'boat shed' , this is what I picture: https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/historic-big-boat-shed-on-lunenburg-waterfront-to-be-revitalized https://developns.ca/projects/big-boat-shed/ I've visited this space with an architecture prof and I can see the resemblance to TCC, but the Bluenose boat shed is on a much bigger scale.
  16. In competition, though, WTT was it.
  17. Yes, and Yuzu only skated it in the 2016-17 season. His last competitive performance of it, at WTT 2017, was in fact on Prince's birthday.
  18. Prince passed away in April 2016, so he had died before Jeff and Yuzu put the program together (LGC premiered in Sept 2016). So he never saw it. However, I do believe that recently, a spokesperson for Prince's estate did comment favorably on Yuzu's interpretation of the song. Unfortunately I can't find the quote back, though.
  19. Me too!! Not least because so many people were nay-saying it for him back in 2018. Plus anytime someone spits in the eye of the 'you have to be young/small to do quads' trope, it makes me really happy. It looks like a converted curling rink to me...curling clubs often have that homey feel and no boards.
  20. I know, it makes no sense. Whatcha gonna do?
  21. This came up in the 'We Love Yuzu' banner thread, and it surprised me, but apparently in a lot of countries, displaying the national flag too prominently can be a very loaded gesture, and Japan is one of those places. It does surprise me a lot that it's an issue in Japan of all places, especially since they no longer use the older version of the flag that was the real hot-button symbol, but there you go. And don't forget that even in Canada, there are places where flying the Maple Leaf is not welcome. It's a sucky side-effect of past history unfortunately. Anyway, here's what Google Translate said for the article: "According to the Japan Skating Federation, "I did not know that it was made by Aichi's manufacturer, but I have already received inquiries," he said, "It seems that Hanyu was doing it personally, but the athletes of the Federation are public. "(Informal) items with Hinomaru or JAPAN on display are misleading and should not be worn. We instructed Hanyu to refrain from doing so in the future." Immediately before the important tournament, everyone wants to avoid making noise outside the competition and affecting Hanyu's performance. However, it is true that the ripples have spread. The exterior of the factory "I think that Hanyu gave me the bad thing, but I am sorry if there was a problem. We do not intend to sell using Hanyu at all," Nakagawara (factory owner where the masks are made) explained. It seems that fans who have already identified it as a product of the company have made a reservation, but since about 50 employees make one by one by hand, it is said that it is best to produce 100 pieces per month. Hanyu will have a short program on the night of the 27th and will be free to play on the night of the 28th of March. It will shut out both dirty air and noise, and will show you the best performance.
  22. ? I guess they mean the advertising? Anyway, Hanyuconomy at work!
  23. He knows, and he occasionally has fun with it, like for example when he was teasing the crowd by pretending to toss his face towel to them after FaOI that one year, then giving them the waggy finger . As long as it's done in moderation (both by the fans and by him), it's a little bit of good, clean fun.
  24. It was really fun to watch Jason appreciating his own skating though. Especially when he said that normally, if he watches video of himself, he's just picking apart the details so he can do it better. And when he said how much he missed TCC and skating, he got me in the feels...you could see how hard he's finding it to be off ice. I just wanted to give him a hug.
