  1. A man after my own heart, this Solovyev. It's always fun to hear that other skaters see Yuzu the same way we satellites do!
  2. I grew up watching him...I miss Brian's skating! But I can sees echoes of it in Javi and Yuzu so that's something.
  3. The look that killed every fanyu in the house in one fell swoop...
  4. Well, even when he's collapsing off the ice, we haven't seen any sign of them having advance knowledge of it yet, so I'm not sure that's how it's used.
  5. I'm pretty sure you could see it at the JNats under those gorgeous purple flowers and butterflies
  6. I wonder a lot about that thing. I'm curious as to why he keeps it on even under his costumes while he's competing. Surely he doesn't have time to react to any information the monitor might tell him while he's in the middle of , say, Origin, or something. It has to be purely for data collection and then they use the info later, but in what way, I wonder. And if it's not a monitor...what could it be?
  7. Well, when you get down to it, if you don't have a baseline, pre-COVID measurement of a person's heart, you can't really assume the heart was perfect before the virus. I'm saying that, not to discount these findings, which I think are significant, but because abnormalities can arise in heart muscle due to the kind of intense, regular, and long-term exercise that elite athletes put themselves through. You don't even have to be elite - you just have to have pushed yourself a lot over a long period of time and you can experience things like thickened heart muscle and atrial fibrillations. For example, the top competitors in the Vasaloppet, a 95km long ski race, especially the ones who've completed it many years in a row, have been shown to develop a particular kind of a-fib. This means that an athlete's heart should be monitored regularly. It also means that any post-COVID findings need to be judged in context. I personally also think it means the fittest people among us might actually be more vulnerable to the virus than we expected.
  8. Also, smart child, educating herself about greatness so early in life...
  9. What the heck are "Midnight Blues"? --> Do they mean 'smouldering with sexual innuendo' blues or 'my whole life is so bad I have to drink myself senseless' blues? Because both are a thing. Maybe someone should tell them so they can *ahem* educate the ISU?
  10. How? If people can't fly there and the Aussie government has implemented some of the strictest quarantine rules going...sometimes I think the ISU smokes the wacky stuff...
  11. Same. Ottawa seems to be located right at the confluence of the huge air masses pushing east across the continent and the ones coming up the seaboard from the south, so we get everything. Although we're far enough inland that most of the hurricane-force winds have lost their strength by the time they hit us. We do get the rain and flash flooding though. And we get tornadoes. But mostly we get heavy thunderstorms throughout the summer. Scary because of lightning but a little less destructive. Here's hoping the typhoons lose strength before they hit land for the rest of the season. Japan needs a break :).
  12. Cracks me up that they used clips from Roman's own YouTube vids...:D
  13. Gosh what a gorgeous 3A he has.
  14. I originally said senior woman but then wasn't sure if I was right about Amanda being senior so redacted it. Anyway, I wonder if SC has decided to pare the team down to a bare minimum this year simply because of the way everything is going - they may have been depending on the money from ticket sales to fund part of the team and that's obviously not going to be available now. It's not as if Conrad, Joseph & co aren't training. But training and being named to the team are two different things. The more i look at it, the more this team selection looks like a contingency plan. Like 'here's who's going, if competitions take place, but they probably won't take place'.
  15. Kind of sad that we can only come up with two pairs teams at the moment. I take this announcement as a sign that Skate Canada is committed to moving forward with the season in whatever form they can manage and probably won't be cancelling everything, but it's 2020 so who knows?
  16. About time TCC got a Canadian woman back on the roster.
  17. I've fallen down the BTS rabbit hole and can't get out. No need to send help, I'm quite happy down here, but drinks and snacks would be appreciated. //all right, totally serious now: How is it possible that the entire world hasn't discovered and fallen in love with this group yet? I'm blown away.
  18. I don't know if Waseda is doing virtual or an in-person ceremony, but one of the unintended good consequences of the pandemic is that Yuzu will be in Japan for his graduation and able to celebrate with his family close by, which is a wonderful thing, and good for him.
  19. That quote - "I am neither greater nor less than Yuzuru Hanyu" - doesn't it come from one of those really introspective interviews he gave after JNats and before 4CC? I seem to remember reading a translation with that in it at around that time. I think he's partially quoting Leornardo Da Vinci there, who wrote that "You will never have a greater nor lesser dominion that that over yourself" - i.e. to be oneself is equally and simultaneously both a no-brainer and the largest challenge you'll ever have.
  20. Yes, but I mean, he looks better than you'd even expect. I sometimes feel like it's a shame he can't wear kimono all the time.
  21. Sort of. I think all these pics are from his cottage (I guess in Russia, the equivalent would be a dacha? Not sure), which is located in the Muskokas, which is probably Canada's best known summer home/ summer holiday region. I love the Muskokas - they really are a kind of outdoors paradise - and they're not far from Toronto at all. Further reference: https://www.discovermuskoka.ca/
  22. It might sound a little bit dumb to say that a Japanese person looks great in hakama, but really, Yuzuru looks exceptionally well in Japanese clothes.
  23. When you put it like that...and I used to work for a wholesale distributor who sold exactly those types of products (gaming stuff), so I know that yes, people do get carried away trying to get the one special card they're after. In this case, though, considering how many hurdles they've put it in the way, it's also a possibility that Nishikawa is just trying to keep all the fans from rushing to stores and overwhelming them with orders, as they would if the Yuzu item was guaranteed with every purchase. IMO a promotion like this has the chance to backfire and actually slow down their sales. People thinking they don't want to gamble. Edited to add: Nevermind. I see @sweetwater corrected a misconception and translated the campaign properly. If I were a sales rep in the retail outlets for this brand, I'd try to figure out if I could tell from outside the package whether there's a Yuzu item inside or not, then make sure anyone who is a fanyu got the Yuzu merch. @Old Cat Lady Hmm. Honestly I think it depends on whether the fanart utilizes previously copyrighted material or not.
  24. That's brilliant on Nishikawa's part. People will buy 2x as much if they don't get Yuzu the first time.
