Can I just share a video from last year that I adore? Nobu crying his eyes out at the end of Yuzu's short program, so sweet... it wasn't that he'd won because he hadn't yet, it was clearly personal, relief and joy that Yuzu was back, that he was healthy and well... His cheers and that single tear on Shuzo Matsuoka's cheek after Seimei also makes me all squishy emotional. Two of his great supporters there to see him come through is just... beautiful.

I know it won't happen, but the mental picture of Yuzu turning up in that hakama and the reaction...

Wonderful timing.... it's nice to be reminded how much his own city and people appreciate him. He's earned their love, pride and respect both on and off the ice, he's still earning it, and I'm sure it means a lot to him.

That was fascinating, the view of one champion who knew better than we ever can what Yuzu faced with that injury... his respect (and Yuzu's for him) is lovely.

I'm convinced that but for the accident, Yuzu would have smashed the FS record in Russia, and he's probably as surprised as anyone that it lasted as long as it did. Shoma has his major gold now, but may have damaged his chances at Worlds if the sprain doesn't clear up. Did I read correctly that both the US and Japan will have no judges in the men's there?

I don't think he looks sad so much as phlegmatically solemn, which is just totally Shoma... And hey, at least this time they got a chair he could get onto without a fight!

But we are coming up the the anniversary of Yuzu making history at Pyeongchang, in the midst of drought the memory of that should be a pure sweet draught of champagne

I think it worked both ways - Javi was richly rewarded for his generosity and flew higher and more brilliantly through what working with Yuzu did for him - but he couldn't have known that would happen, it's a tribute to both of them as sportsmen and gentlemen. Oh dear, I'm misting up again...

Hey, they couldn't fit any worse than that jacket he came swanning into the PC airport in.... (to be fair, I have suspicions that the Japanese Olympic team can be blamed, some of the stuff they put poor Shoma in....) By the way, it just occurred to me, this would be about the time last year - three weeks or so before PC - that Yuzuru actually started practicisng the jumps that he was taking to victory....

This is absolutely true. (Actually, I want him to send Japan - no, the entire skating and possibly sporting world - into a tizzy by going REALLY formal, and turning up his his brand new ultra-glorious hakama that he doesn't get nearly enough chances to wear anyway )

he can have it custom made (he'd have to! that waist...) but more to the point, he's Yuzu so... will he?????
