  1. So, Ted was a pairs skater? Young Ted looks good. Nice picture
  2. I am not sure exactly what you mean here, but Plushenko withdrew from Sochi because of a back injury. When he tried to land a 3A in the warm-up, a titanium bolt implanted in his back fractured and after that, he could not twist his back. Later he had the bolt taken out and tried to come back in 2015, although he had to give up due to another injury. I saw him in person several times in 2015 and I am sure he really was trying to come back because each time he was making his program more difficult than before, like adding a 3A, then doing 2 3As, etc. In short, I think he is the kind of person who wants to compete when he can and who aims to win when he competes. He is not the kind of person who would use Yuzu to save his face. Also, he had been naming Yuzu as his biggest rival at Sochi since early 2012, when Yuzu hadn't even won a medal at Worlds.
  3. If you visit Sapporo, Hokkaido, you can see Yuzu's autographed skating boots in Sapporo Olympic Museum. They also exhibit the Team Japan uniform for PyeongChang 2018 and replica of Olympic medals. You can also simulate ski jumping if you like. 6. To clarify: Mai wasn't unwilling to eat or anything. The coach said that Mai lost weight not because of anorexia, but because her body could not absorb nutrients properly. (I am not sure whether it was because of her disease or the side effect of the treatments for it) Now she is taking a different medicine and trying to get better. Source: https://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/201911040000003.html Hope everything goes well with her. Get well soon, Mai chan!
  7. I never thought that maybe someday they would receive an award for being good teammates... and they would conclude this video with super Javi But there might be a Japanese version of this video consists of Yuzu, Yuzu, Yuzu, and occasionally cute Javi chan. ETA: By the way, I had trouble watching Olympic Channel videos on PC, but after I disabled Adblocker, I could watch them.
  8. According to a reporter of Asahi Shimbun, coach Sonoko Nakano accepted an interview after Ladies' FS at Skate America and commented on how Mai is doing now. Nakano said, "She can not train now because she is undergoing an examination regarding the disease she has been suffering. But she is saying, "I am definitely going to come back." There was a time she was training, (t/n: during this year, I guess) but she needs to be healed. I am recommending her not to push herself too hard, to be able to make a full comeback." ETA: Nakano also said that Mai is likely to WD from CoC. Source: https://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20191020/fgr19102019320007-n1.html
  9. Sounds like Mai is still under treatment (She says that she is going to focus on her treatment) Wishing her all the best for her health and recovery...
  10. You can listen to the song in this MAD or in this news clip, although in the former the song is mixed with Yuzu's program music and applause from the audience, and in the latter, the sound quality is so low... Rest is some info about the song for anyone else interested: The title of the song is "documentary." and it was released right before the individual events at Sochi. According to an interview, Sasshi had never expected to be friends with an Olympian. After becoming friends with Yuzu, Sasshi found it a rare experience to get to know his friend more or to learn about their struggle through TV and thought about writing a song about Yuzu working toward competing at Olympics, hoping to encourage everyone living their life struggling, working hard even if their success isn't guaranteed. According to Sasshi, he and Yuzu both are the kind of people who take time to open up to someone they have just met. They both tend to get immersed in their hobbies. (Sasshi is a railroad otaku and Yuzu is an earphone otaku) When Sasshi sends one of his songs to Yuzu, Yuzu would respond to it with a looong letter describing his impressions as if he were a music journalist. Here is Sasshi's blog post about the song which includes the lyrics.

  13. Bit OT, but if you are in Japan now, especially in Tokai, Kanto, Tohoku area, please be careful about the weather this weekend (Oct. 11-13 2019)since a very strong typhoon Hagibis is nearing Japan and likely to hit these areas. According to the weather forecast, a rainstorm will begin in Tokai and Kanto this evening and continue until 13th. In the Tohoku area, it will begin tomorrow around noon. Many railroad companies in Kanto have already announced that they are going to stop service from tomorrow afternoon. Many shops and restaurants will also close early. Please gather information and prepare for the storm. 14. I am not trying to change the mood but let me post this as well since I originally came here to post this Keizo Nakanishi reunited with Yuzu after two years and talked about Rugby World Cup 2019 Two years ago
  15. Thank you for taking the time to explain. Although I haven't changed my initial opinion, I understand your point of view. While reading your reply, I realized the interpretation of the affordability of ACI might be affected by how attending it would cost each person on each occasion. For me, going to ACI this year wasn't affordable for multiple reasons, but for some, it was the most accessible event distance-wise and ticketing-wise. In that sense, we both may have misinterpreted what "who can afford it" meant, so I won't go further into this. I don't necessarily think there should be rules, but I hope we continue to have chances to talk about these things, to share opinions from time to time, since it is a matter of caring others.
