  1. I think it's time to make our opinion known to ISU. I don't know if they check their twitter or youtube comments, but we'll achieve nothing if we seethe here and they still live in their own ideal bubble. Getting angry on our own won't transmit our thoughts magically to them. They'd think that those on twitter are still vocal minorities that can be brushed off. Ignorance is a scary thing, and it's hard to convince them if we don't have the strength in numbers to prove that we ARE a significant part of their income, and that our opinion matters. Is there a way to make our opinion known and impossible to ignore? Like an open letter on a reputable news site? A column write-up? Anything? It angers me that the system currently rewards those who push the limits of what is acceptable by openly flaunting the rules, instead of those who stayed true to the spirits of what figure skating intended to promote. One position occupied by them is one position denied to a skater whose coach was too meek too push their boundaries years ago.
  2. I'm still waiting for the day Boyang reconciles with his faster skating speed and his beautiful textbook Lz... Hope to see it back again in time for 2022 Beijing Precisely!!! Going through the list of records on Wiki, it really struck me that Boyang was the first to land 4Lz+3T, three different quads, and 6 quads in a competition, yet his PCS remains rock bottom (unlike other quadsters) and he never got the hype or recognition that he deserved, to the extent he questions his own confidence and abilities. Feels sad and hope he can get back someday, I miss his happy smiles
  3. I love the "在下面边转边跳“ (literally "rotate while jumping down there") lmao, can't stop laughing when I read it. This boy is so sarcastic! What a great euphemism for pre-rotation The sentence in question was translated as "或许用我跳 Lz 的方法去跳 4Lz 的话不太适合“, which is exactly as Lily translated From Chinese I'd put it across this way "Maybe my Lz technique isn’t optimal for 4Lz"
  4. Throughout all the hype with the girls I used to think about how he would feel too... Guess I wasn't too far off the mark, he is human after all. Hope he will prevail one day. At least he's not a girl and competing with the ladies lol. I pity Rika and the other skaters though
  5. Just checked with the Chinese translations, they've put it across this way too. It still amazes me today that Chinese-Japanese translations are usually 1000x less awkward than English lol. I can finish reading the article as if he's conversing in Chinese himself, and the meaning captured is still pretty accurate.
  6. I used to think this way too, but after watching some videos about how badly these corporations control their "spokesperson", I'm just glad that Yuzu stayed away from that hellhole. The effect on him will be even more magnified considering his position, that's why he never signed up for any sports agency like Yuna etc, because that'll pretty much control everything in his life, from what he can say, what he can do, when he can do them. He'd be under so much pressure to recover last year for example, he'll likely be forced to open a social media account, or prohibited from switching gears. Some skaters like Mao was adversely affected by these "sponsors" during the Olympic season I think. Yuzu just need as little drama in his life as possible, he got plenty of them already. He can sign up for everything he wants after retirement, there's still a long road ahead. Money can never compensate for the mental stress from being forced to do things that are not good for you, but good for the corporation's pockets (like opening social media account for example). Some skaters might not mind it that much, but to Yuzu, he has a direction and he knows what he wants. For now I think he is wise to keep as much control over his own life as he can, so he can focus on what's important to him, and have less stress.
  7. yea I've spoken to some fans who really hated IK and called her arrogant and a liar for translating the word as it is (basically something about how he thought of dying) because other 2nd/3rd lang translators toned it down. They called her untrustworthy, questioned her ability to translate, dragged her reputation through the mud everywhere, then blocked her, even though she's a native in both languages. It's horrifying how badly some of us can behave when it comes to dealing with things we don't want to deal with. I'm not surprised that he used to have those thoughts at that time, considering the nation-wide attention on a gossip by the Gintama director who calls him "attention seeking", which gained a lot of support from antis, and caused a lot of fights with the fans. It's entirely reasonable that he would feel that way, but people who never experienced depression think it's impossible and dismissed that, then attacked others who dared to translate otherwise for "lying". We can change how we interpret it, but we cannot change the words he spoke. She put in the original words he said in the translation and left it for the people to decide, but apparently that wasn't enough for them.
  8. I think everyone should stop skirting around "mines" when Yuzu dropped the bomb himself lol. Reminds me of back when people insisted that Yuzu didn't have suicidal thoughts during CWW and try to tone down his words, then bully and harass everyone who suggested otherwise. Imo if he chose to bring these topics up in these circumstances, he really means what he said. He put it across in the least offensive way, but there's no sugarcoating his words, and trying to bring down the "controversy" by giving the "least controversial interpretation" isn't doing his intentions any justice.
  9. :o sadistic mind you have there lol, that'd be the tragedy of the century another translation of the article about 4Lz
  10. UGHH I really wish ANY news site would pick this up and translate it, so it gets the attention it deserves since "non-English news are not trustable" lol Even stuff like Hersh's articles are quoted in wiki. Or the trashy article about old ladies commenting on Yuzu that made its way into CBC's videos. I sometimes wish we have our own publishing website, so we can have things that look legitimate, because apparently "having a website increases your credibility 10000x more than forums" even though the author might suck. We have so much info but so little power, ISU won't believe us and will claim that "we're just making stuff up" when we say there's bias and issues in judging.
  11. thanks! didn't see yours too rip wow didn't know we can merge and split threads
  12. On October 28th 2019, Yuzu gave an interview to Sponichi after winning Skate Canada. (Original article here, please click and give them views!) A brief summary is as below (my edits in bracket) Here's a translation of the article in English Reproduced on text in Reddit here Translation in Chinese Yuzu had mentioned the idea of a "true Lutz". To elaborate, a skater has explained the mechanism in the thread below. Here's part 2 (please click to give them views!) and the translation below
  13. This shade is so real it deserves a thread of its own tbh. Needs to be immortalised
  14. yes precisely. The Chinese phrase used is "在下面边转边跳“ which literally means "jumping while rotating down there"
  15. Just found a Chinese version here I think I can share some thoughts about it. If the translation is accurate, could be translated as "Since young / Since I started skating, I've never been the type of skater that could land these kind of jumps." What was described as "rotating down below" could mean "No matter how hard I practice, I can't rotate my blades on the ice while jumping" or more literally, "I can't rotate down there while jumping"
  16. the main thing is what "rotating down below" means. I can't really think of anything it could mean but prerotation thanks so much for the translation, it's so much better than the tweet lol. Being trilingual, I can understand wanting to "keep to the language", but while it might still subconsciously make sense to a person who knows the language, it's almost impossible to interpret it if you don't, because the entire language structure is so different. Really appreciate your translations there, the Reddit haters gonna hate and wallow in their echo chamber. "But their jump is huge and they don't pre-rotate!" (they actually do) "oh but 180˚ pre-rotation is okay!" (that's not how Lutz work gdi) (the thread below explains it) Funny to see people trying to justify everything by jumping through mental hoops to find a reason to support what they want to believe, they just can't accept that their hero isn't perfect. Glad to see Yuzu confirming that skaters like Chibura who's been sharing these info all along aren't "sprouting nonsense just to hate on the girls' success"
  17. He knows If only it's translated officially and gets the attention it deserves ...
  18. Has anyone seen this video before? Was this at ACI this year?
  19. How are spots decided? Like how do they decide whether a skater gets one spot or two? Really want Young You to get one
