  1. And scramble greedily for the little crumbs of footage and photos that will be thrown at us. I really hope very SNS-friendly skaters are invited, we can stalk everybody else's Twitter and Insta. Life of a Fanyu.
  2. A month, that's about the time that's left on his rehab. And he did say at CiONTU that the next time we see him, he'd be jumping again. Oooooooh maybe his ankle will be well enough for a delayed single axel!!! And we'll never see it. RELEASE THE FOOTAGE!
  3. Oooh this will be fun, but I don't think Strawberry Nemesis and Etude Turandot guesses are going to get me anything. And Sex Bomb or Koi Dance Ex. Ooh, a mashup.
  4. Yeah that's iffy. Can't shake the feeling that they're cracking down on it also because of who figured out ways to maximise the bonus clause. They made the rules, there's no point being annoyed that people figured out how to get the most out of the rules. But I guess they will keep making rules, until the judges need to solve a quadratic equation before they can hit GOE on a jump! Seriously, the real problem is application of existing rules, so their solution is to complicate the rules even more. Even in an ideal no-bias perfectly objective world that's a bonkers way to solve this.
  5. I'm weirdly more optimistic about the 4A than the return of the 4Lz. I'm sure he'll bring the 4Lz back at some point, but I'm not looking forward to it. It gave his 3Lz a weird lean and odd timing on top of destabilizing his 4Lo a bit. But whatever he's been doing with the 4A has changed his 3A and it hasn't affected the stability of it, so I'm more optimistic. Not in the 'he's gonna land it at his first GP' kind of way, in the 'it probably won't affect his existing jumps badly as he really works on it' kind of way. But no clue how far along he actually is, he's probably landed it or he wouldn't have talked about it, but not anywhere near enough for it to be 4T/4S kind of muscle memory by a long shot. Getting it back is going to be hard, and getting it stable will be harder.
  6. What a fraud our boy is off the ice. *so proud*
  7. I had a flash image of Yuzu with giant wings and a beak, NOOOOO!!
  8. Just realised he cannot actually do anything after getting on the bicycle?!
  9. I am also here *smh* at how the most obviously subjective points were chosen as the mandatory ones. I mean, in theory, I actually agree with that - no jump should max out on points unless it's a beautiful jump. A very good jump that is technically within allowed limits should get the BV that's counted on when layout is planned, but the extra should be for going beyond, and maxing out should be for beautiful jumps. But I have a shirt that says beauty is in the eye of the beerholder, and here, effortlessness is going to be in the pocket of the powerful federation. That is very annoying. I am not as annoyed about limiting the bonus for second half jumping passes. It is a great test of endurance, but it does make the programme look odd more often than not. It's a sport with rules, and one rule was introduced to discourage frontloading, which made skates oddly unbalanced. Now that rule is being amended to discourage complete backloading, because that also makes skates often oddly off-balance and avoiding that end result was the intention of that rule in the first place. Stamina is one of the key assets of the athlete, but it appears that rule weighted the advantage of stamina too heavily and the amendment seeks to adjust that a little. As long as more than half of jumping passes in the second half gets a bonus, I think it's fair enough.
  10. A++ and +3 GOE to you because I've never seen that before and that is perfect for the moment.
  11. Ah, I'm happy for Tomono, too! That must be a level up, right? Yuzu needs a whole new level for himself. But the boy said quints, I need somebody at TCC to sit on him when he starts on that...
  12. I know. None of it is meant maliciously I think, but it does sometimes diminish the incredible amount of work and sacrifice that went into his second OGM.
  13. I think it's like... Well, you did it twice, now you're an expert, how about doing it again? After the first time, you're still unsure whether it was a bit of a fluke or something, but the second time you do something very special, it's like 'yep, that's your thing now, that's what you do. Do it on demand now.'
  14. I sang it. ETA: When I read it now I meant lol
  15. Tiantian in TCC! I must have this. Maybe seeing Boyang jump a hundred 4Lzes will give Yuzu the non-tilty-axis image he needs. Watching Javi apparently helped his 4S. And quite apart from that, I will be thrilled to see how Boyang's skating skills improve with Tracy's drilling. Also I'm crying over what might have been with Han Yan, do we know anything?
  16. The effect of that does seem more turning out than toe-pointing. Feels like nitpicking, though, a bit. Thank you for the photos!
  17. So he will be skating to Nemesis in a strawberry costume. SIGNS!!!
  18. After very happily grabbing the excuse to watch some skating instead of working, I think I can see the difference between a layback spin with pointed toe and without. The free leg does make the entire position look odd without it, but I think it's got more to do with turnout than the toe, honestly. I think it would be way more difficult to pay attention to pointing toes during a step sequence than while dancing. Yuzu's step sequences are so incredibly fast, too. Maybe camel spin? I think Alina needed the tutu because her posture is not the best, she needed something very obvious to convey that impression. But tutus look silly on ice. To me, at least.
  19. Pointing toes really is an old chestnut from people who think all figure skating performances should be balletic! I don't usually interact with those people so I honestly had no clue lol I guess it's one of those things where I'd just have to disagree. If the skate is to a ballet piece, then yes, pointing toes as much as possible would be important. If it's not, then it's a matter of what you think looks better and suits the music and choreography.
  20. Ah, I see. I've never actually seen any skaters pointing their toes very noticeably. I suppose you could get finicky and demand that they point their toes while doing spins and steps on one foot, but with how the boots are stiff at the ankles, I'd think to do it enough to be noticeable while skating would be difficult. In dance, it needs extension of the ankle and curling your toes inside a little to make the line from shin to toe as straight and long as possible. Usually far easier barefoot or in shoes that have a bit of give. So who do TSL recommend as great examples of how to point your toes properly while skating? Among men? I've never noticed Yuzu having awkward lines because of not pointing feet, though. Maybe they have gifs? ETA: It sounds to me a bit like personal preference in artistry being mistaken for what all skaters should do. There are plenty of forms of graceful arts and dances that don't involve pointing of the toes. Yuzu's lines have been perfectly artistic since he got over the noodly phase and he actually got the stamina to maintain extension until the end of his skates, so... I'd ask for those receipts.
