  1. I can only assume that they are in fact all Harry Mattick stans, because we all know he does engage very meaningfully with his programmes and while I'm sure he has the competitive spirit necessary to be an athlete at that level, ummm... I don't think the competitive spirit has hindered his engagement in any way. As one of The Harry Mattick Stans in FS fandom at all, lemme say I'm expelling the lot of them from our Pumpkin Corner. Don't want 'em. They cannot engage meaningfully with human beings.
  2. Also... Most commentators seem far more interested in going 'OoOOOooooooOOOOOooooohhhhhh PooooOOOOOoooooOOOOOooohs' than actually analysing any elements. Maybe in other languages, they do? But they will be up in their broadcast rooms with feeds, where they will be relatively insulated from crowd's reactions and sounds. The reporters will be in the media section apart from the general audience but they don't do commentary.
  3. What a pity, it would've been perfectly adorable. The slight flattered embarrassment birthday people have when they get a cake and a song is one of my favourite things, even the shyest people become 'guys you really shouldn't have, it's so cute though, you guys really do like me huh, ohmygosh stop now please no second verse, no no no don't make up another embarrassing verse!!' Now I really want to look up when Kevin's birthday is and hope he competes then because his awkwardness is perfectly adorable.
  4. We'd be pretty annoyed if when Yuzu was on the ice and warming up, knowing he's got a strict routine for warming up, suddenly a band started up for whatever reason. The birthday song isn't a band but still... But we should check if anybody else at GPF has a birthday then or close by, right? And sing for them, too. Why not? It'd be sweet.
  5. No that argument makes no sense but there will be the next competitor on the ice warming up at that time and it would be a stretch to imagine Yuzu would be happy with a birthday song right then. They'd be expecting cheers and Poohs and stuff, but hearing something they're unprepared for might throw them off, who knows. Athletes' preparation for skates can be their own and strange. But I absolutely do not get the objection to singing after his practice group. Nobody's seriously practicing then, at the most there will be some cooldown. Everybody's rt will be over. He will be preparing to leave. It will not make headlines because it's not part of the big TV broadcast. @quadaxelwin I don't think this is comparable to the Instagram fiasco specifically because that time, we had communication from Yuzu's team in the form of the photo being taken down. Nobody was trying to figure out what he wanted, his team showed what they wanted. If we got any communication from him or his team, then all of this would be moot. Honestly this whole thing sounds like 'this is not how we want things done, so nobody do it' and that is really some fandom policing that's not okay. Nobody's said anything that makes it clear that this would be disrespectful to anybody in any way at all, it's just all 'we know he'd be uncomfortable', plus some unfortunate misinformation twisting the plane congrats announcement that Yuzu turned down to mean a birthday wish. This appears to be a matter of fans' preferences, not Yuzu's.
  6. In which case, considering it happened at the last GPF where he attended, we can say he'd be outspoken enough to mention he would rather nobody referred to his birthday if that's what he preferred. I don't think even Japanese fans can claim to read his mind or know what he wants, or say what he was thinking from a clip of him not showing any visible discomfort to anybody else's eyes. We know from his words that he would be mortified if anybody did it when other skaters were on the ice and practicing or training or warming up. After his practice group, however, to say he wouldn't want it and would be uncomfortable with it is something nobody can say except for him or people who know him personally. As long as nobody in that particular circle says anything of the sort, considering he led JAvi's happy birthday song at CiONTU, I'm gonna go with 'he probably won't think it's a big deal at all', since there's never been ANY indication that Yuzu dislikes being wished happy birthday by fans. Also Japanese fans as a whole don't always know what he wants. Remember how so many of them were up in arms about fanart, and Yuzu came out and said he loves seeing his own fanart and then they settled down? They don't always get it right, either. If something is an actual cultural taboo, then obviously we should listen. This, however, doesn't sound like that at all. This sounds very much like some people deciding what he'd like and what would be appropriate.
  7. Even so, that tweet is reading his expression and body language, not anything Yuzu has ever said in Japanese about it, so I don't think their interpretation has more weight than anybody else's. Japanese fans don't know who Yuzu is as a person any better than anybody else who has followed him does. After all, don't people keep saying how his way of expressing himself honestly is almost culturally non-Japanese? When fans have done something he doesn't like, he has said it. Like anything that disturbs the next skater warming up, cheering his jumps loudly when others have their runthrough - things like that. If fans singing him happy birthday bothered him, I guess he'd have said something about it.
  8. And either might get RusFed to perhaps score him favourably because goodness knows JSF isn't gonna do much.
  9. YES!!! Well or second option Sex Bomb but after that conversation I'm definitely leaning far more towards Rasputin.
  10. By now my reputation should precede me and you should all be able to guess exactly what I'm here to say.
  11. Nobu is extremely brave to do this and I hope he gets all of the truth out in the open and gets the compensation he should get.
  12. He might become the only one who can challenge Trusova's scores. The battle of Sashas, backed by RusFed.
  13. He seems to be splatting less this season than last, and that's even if his first GP was IdF. I guess that means he is beginning to get better with the control. How, I don't know.
  14. It is some extraordinary skill to wobble his axis in the air like that and somehow fix it enough to stay on his feet, though. I have NO idea how he does that. It's almost as extraordinary as how Grassl makes any of his jumps work at all. I don't know how but they do it.
  15. His landing posture has no resemblance to the low knee and close to upright torso that's supposed to be ideal lol The only thing I can say is he got good height and probably good distance on the combo, and he did not UR on landing. That's it, those are all the positives.
  16. ... The SP LzT combo looked better than the FS one, even, none of this makes sense, none. TSL apparently called it the most beautiful combo ever or some such nonsense, too? I don't give them views so this is second-hand.
  17. Shun cried after his free and I'm, I just, I really want a skating god to fight, mano a mano! How dare! Punch lights out! !!!! There's definitely at least one skating god who's got it coming.
  18. I remember reading this too but have no clue where it's from.
  19. New theory: all the Nessie training is elongating his neck like Nessie's.
  20. Hmmm, maybe Yuzu would be able to jump this new jump if he thought of it as more of a flip for which he doesn't have to focus on his edge than as a Lz?
  21. I love ^^^ that idea about just calling it a new jump. It is, in essence, a new jump. It takes the outside edge from the Lz, then puts aside what the outside edge in a Lz actually signifies - take off with counter-rotation - and builds PR on the toe pick into the jump. So it's obviously not a Flip, it's not a Lutz, it's not a Toeloop. It's a different kind of toe jump. So give it a name, assign it a BV that reflects the fewer rotation off ice, like in a toeloop or sal, and let them jump it. Then add slo-mo review to takeoff of all toe jumps, including this one. This way, they can still have their 'quad'. And those who jump the actual 4Lz will get the points for a 4Lz. And for lulz, they'll finally have a technical negative to say about Yuzu because he will NOT be able to jump this new jump. All the talk about mitf makes me sad. It was always my impression that the StSq was supposed to represent a new evolution of figures, and ChSq the MITF. Now ChSq is just a dance break with no moves in the field.
