I don't get it. Has this been updated? Just wondering why Nathan Chen isn't first, having made a Gold medal sweep currently this season (something I wished for Hanyu). So world standings they give you scores base on your SB for each season? How does this work?
-
I actually find it awesome that noodly youngster Hanyu pre-OGM could inspire someone, and I'm sure many others as well. And of course also other skaters not just Hanyu, but you don't have to be at the top to have your skating and fighting spirit reach out to other people.

Brought this to quote in this thread because I think it belongs here. I actually think Shoma and Nathan started out strong and have been regressing, which is alarming. Both have injuries and reasons, and Nathan is sacrificing content for quads, but hopefully the month before Olys will fix that. I'm still sad over Yuzu but objectively missing GPS when this season has been so weird might turn out better for him - but I don't want to count any unhatched eggs yet.

This is my story. I keep track of what's going on but my heart's not in it. I also think that Yuzu, Javi, and Patrick brings some sort of - idk what to call it - xfactor or mature encompassing charisma to the top men's skating that is sorely missed. Some people are still arguing that they are has beens and a few may want to see the era of the young guns now, but their skating I think will be sorely missed once that era hits. They don't really know what they're missing until it's gone and won't come back. OT: Will it be possible if Yuzu might be heading to JPN nats a week early? So maybe then we might hear news as early as next week?

A fitting use of Parisenne Walkways as background music.

I think it's been established by the people here, and should always be emphasized, that this project is voluntary and for the interested in the wording for this project. The project itself doesn't have to be big.

Not sure if I can offer anything except my participation, but if I can do anything to help would like to jump in.

Hopefully. Maybe he'd be more perplexed and embarrassed than anything, but well outside TCC and others some people wouldn't realize its him maybe. From the laughing tone of the person from TCC who shared it, probably that's how this bus ad was seen and the atmosphere, as more lightheartedly in the end.
-
Yea at that point it kind of loses its sweetness factor, while for this ad for Yuzu I can understand the meaning and sentimentality behind it so maybe it works better. But yea, both ways its still fandom-culture shock for people. Didn't even think of that! Now I hope for their sake that bus ad was fan taken or hand drawn. It went through so at least no one cares or hopefully they won't.
-
Not bringing anything to the discussion, but funny you said this because I just saw that some fans rented a display ad in the New York Times Square to wish a kpop idol happy birthday. Millions of people in NY don't even know him and it's not like the kpop idol will see it in person. I thought the full page newspaper ad that ANA took out for Yuzu with a thank you letter for the season last year was sweet, but fans don't have a direct relationship with Yuzu and this one is in Canada so I guess at some stage it'd be awkward. They probably might have been able to do a bus ad in Japan, but probably really wanted Yuzu to see it. In this case subtly might have been better yea, but anything that's not Yuzu's face like Pooh and headphones are copyrighted/patented so stuff like that wouldn't work I think.

Thank you very much for putting this together, @Hydroblade!

I saw his look after WC17 fs as fierce and him just trying to breathe, instead of a smirk. WC12 and GPF15 as well. Fierce and glaring Yuzu is as much an aesthetic as smiling Yuzu. His smirk when he heard Boyang's score at NHK15 though.
-
I've been pretty motivationless since Yuzu has gone MIA. I thought I came to terms with this year's GPF but guess not. Outside I'm: GPF is this week. Sad Yuzu is not there to defend his title, but good luck to all the skaters participating. On the inside I'm: it's Yuzu's birthday and he's missing GPF in his country. I miss him and I hope he's healthy and training well. <-- I think this anguish will only get worse as the weekend gets closer. But then I also think that Yuzu may be watching GPF and cheering on everyone to do well as well, so it helps me maintain some decency a bit.

To you and to everyone on this thread earlier that talked about onscreen vs live skating, and your impression of skaters INCLUDING YUZU, I want to thank you! I always find it interesting and fascinating to read especially impressions about Yuzu. Helps me get through the dry news and missing him. Also, you put a comparison that I could totally see!

I didn't post when we reached page 2000 but if I'm conscious when page 2018 comes around expect me to spam prayers and wishes for Yuzu in PC. Jk........maybe

Yay! Makes me wonder, how many athletes do ANA sponsor? Because Yuzu is always wearing their jackets if not the Team Japan jackets or similar, and who else is wearing it. Idk is it something ANA just have as merchandise for some random reason? Plus someone has to design it. Can't tell if its changed over the years or not though.

Fat chance but I'll try anyway: does anyone have the clip of Keiji Tanaka on Kenji no heya? Yzriko had an upload of a cut on dailymotion but it was removed. Sadly I can't find anything beyond a 26 sec clip anywhere. Well, if not my vague memories will have to do.
-
*whispers* if not Keiji then Mura or Daisuke might make the team Eta: and Mura was 2015 WTT captain over Yuzu so

I'm not in love with the song, but that might change. I was waiting for Yuzu to appear and was getting restless in the middle after all the ladies figure skaters even when you said he was at the end. Omg they dedicated more than a few seconds to him! And it's niiiice! The attention to FS though, yep its the biggest sport at Olympics. So many interesting talks today though. I'll have to backtrack later to read and watch more about this body fat percentage thing.

Maybe there are probably some schools that don't have it as part of the curriculum? For example if say, they are more geared towards academics, arts, music, or sports and don't have the extra time to put swimming classes on their student's schedule. In my city it was part of the curriculum too but my high school was the very few that opted out because we were academic/college focused and most students were drowned in schoolwork. Edit: I live in the US though, so just a theory.

OT. Random interruption because I've taken a break from rewatching Hanyu programs to watching random clips of JPN television media coverage on him. I think it's great how excited the Japanese media announcers are about skating and their dedication to bringing in experts to explain skating jumps, scores, and pcs to commoners, and making predications too. I'm always pleased whenever they use Hanyu as an example. But really it must be hard to explain scores sometimes, yet they're so positive about it. Shame on ISU.

Since I'm browsing the old thread at GS and we've been doing throwbacks, I didn't know was already a thing back then! I'm slayed by fanwork.

A change of pace and a question to everyone. So if you had an opportunity to have a short one-on-one conversation with Yuzu (pretend language isn't a barrier), what question would you ask or topic will you like to discuss? Yuzu's mind and thoughts are so interesting, and another thing I appreciate about him. Sadly though I don't think I can hold a very deep conversation with him because if I ask anything too profound or outside my range of knowledge like his current studies, it might just go over my head. I'd probably just talk about music in general, like what interests him or what he thinks about contemporary music, if he imagines himself skating to random music he likes (like I do), etc. That's a lot of questions though, but I guess under one umbrella. I'm sure he could get very profound with his answers for any topic including music. If I could only ask one question though, not thinking too hard and off the top of my head, I'd maybe ask him for his personal recommended things to do or eat for Japanese tourists outside the basic stuff, since just that I would find interesting to know. It'd be a reverse of the previous question that was asked on here about what we'd show Yuzu if he ever visited our country/city.

With how soft the technical panel is for other darling competitors and for some in the men's field regarding their multiple quads, Yuzu could've introduced his 4A this season and maybe even could've gotten it ratified if our Yuzu wasn't being the perfect and gracious king Yuzu, imo.

I know. The writer probably isn't even following figure skating but the opinions as facts part and quotes, ugh. This stuff gets my blood boiling and it's like propaganda but its really not its just people being extra. There's another quote too about how he's the one that forced the other top men to up their game sort of thing. It's hard to ignore because my interest in figure skating and google search keywords serves every single media bait from the U.S. to me. But Nathan is a great sportsman and individual as usual. Everyone knows he is a shoo in the U.S. team, but like Hanyu he doesn't seem to be taking it for granted.
