  1. Ah, that's fair enough. So there's no formal name for the move, just colloquial names that vary with geographies. The Oda thing is hilarious, poor thing After seeing some other tanos, I kind of get what people mean when they criticise Evgenia's tano arm for being 'bent'. I know for a fact that it definitely looks more impressive to people who aren't so familiar with FS since I had friends comment on it when I've showed them videos lol
  2. HAH I didn't even think of that. Now I'm laughing imagining Yuzu doing Evgenia-frequency tanos and Brian in the background like Speaking of....what did people call rippons before Adam? Or was he the one who created the move (because he's so young! was this a recent trend?)
  3. Ah, I miswrote - I meant a pop from quad to triple, not downgraded triple in the technical sense. I'm just having fun speculating on if there's any scenario where a popped triple can get +3/high +2 GOES. Realistically probably not likely since it's not something you can prepare for until that split second. Maybe if he yolo'd with a tano....... Hard to imagine Yuzu with a tano though
  4. Ah, thank you for this! It's a bit of an exponential curve in terms of points, isn't it? I guess you either risk the fall deduction (and deduction in PCS) but with full rotation, or you go for the pop, stay on your feet and maybe keep the 'flow' of the program stronger (though, personally, I feel like pops are basically perceived as falls/'I screwed up' that will impact PCS regardless, especially if it's a single or double). If we go by that table, a fully rotated quad + fall with -3 GOEs is still 4.0. I think avoiding injury is the main strategy for popping instead of going for it. Do pops (especially downgraded triples since they're the only ones that could be competitive) ever get +GOES or is there a minus simply for deviating from the intended layout? (not counting Yuzu's inexplicable +0.9 at WTT for his 1A lol)
  5. LOL that analogy is true, as I found out recently trying to give my kitten her first bath. Nothing ever embodied the word 'NO' in neon lights more than her trying to escape the sink Yuzu does seem like the type to get too keyed up/anxious and overthink, even though he hides it well, so I'm not surprised this is a bigger problem for him. Ironic that the key for him may be to just - as Brian said - trust in his hard work (which he has done in spades) and let his mind go blank a little. Aren't pops penalised almost just as much as a fall? (if he pops to a single/double?)
  6. I was wondering how this thread moved so quickly in a number of hours but it looks like some posts from the General Chat got transferred over? Anyway, hello all and I'm glad we came to some sort of solution about the general chat situation (and geez, we should just send Yuzu these amazing charts since he seems to be that type of person too - my mind doesn't usually work via maths/stats but I'm trying to learn to not be intimidated by data so these are great!) Also thanks for those 4Lz video compilations @moni, I've only seen the WTT one! Re: popping -- my pet theory is that if you're a perfectionist with technique, you're more likely to be sensitive to mistakes at the point of takeoff -- so when your axis is slightly off and where other people might think 'I can save this', you might pop the jump instead. Or if you're concerned about avoiding injury by going for the revolutions or a risky save (which can be tough on the knees/cause other injuries), you may pop instead. Given Yuzu's history with injuries, I can see why he might choose to be more conservative. I think as Sochi and even CoC demonstrated, he'll go for the revolutions when he feels he really needs to.
  7. Page 700~ Here's the cutest hydroblade fail to celebrate~
  8. I don't think speculating about other skaters' jumps or realistic assessment of their abilities/possible points is dismissing Yuzu's abilities, just like criticising his choices or expressing doubts/anxiety about them is not an attack on him. You can like someone and support them with all your heart and also be allowed to question their choices - as much as we joke about it here, no person is beyond criticism, discussion or debate and Yuzu would probably tell you that himself. Personally, I wasn't thrilled he was going with Chopin 3.0 but I support him and believe he might change my mind. If it wasn't for people raising questions about Chopin 3.0 and launching discussions and debate, we wouldn't have had people more deeply considering his strategy. At the end of the day, you're right to say Yuzu's team is considering these things and Yuzu clearly has a plan. It seems you're upset by the speculation and BV talk or people expressing doubts about some of Yuzu's music or choices but I do hope I can perhaps encourage you to consider what you interpret as 'negative' or 'gloomy'. Truly, I think my approach and some others' in the thread is that of curiosity and a desire to try and work out for ourselves what might happen, like guessing the outcome of a detective novel while we're still reading it. You may enjoy following the story and not know the ending until it happens and that's okay too! I hope, however, knowing that other ways fans like to engage with figure skating is not malicious will help you not to feel as distressed though
  9. I'm assuming @anyanee was in her last year of high school and is starting university in the coming start of semester? (apologies if I'm mistaken) Also, don't worry @anyanee, it'll be okay - try to enjoy the process because I'm sure Yuzu is too and all the other skaters ( :
  10. At this point, the most helpful thing someone could do might actually be to break one of his records right before the Olympics. But that's like. The nuclear gamble option I definitely think Shoma is a bigger threat to Yuzu at the moment - he is the most 'well-rounded' between TES and PCS and he doesn't tend to fall even if there are technical errors in his jumps/landings and so he comes across as much more consistent, which is an advantageous image to have. He almost has the entire quad arsenal in his bag too. Nathan I'd say is always going to be a threat but the lack of rest between SP and FS may play a part on stamina and it's a risky layout to try and maintain the whole season - if he can stabilise it though, he'll have a lot of sway going in. (also Boyang! Just dark-horsing in the background, landing perfect 4Lzs.......) Point being...the leader keeps changing and so many factors are at play, it's dangerous to underestimate anyone.
  11. Above all, the quality that will ensure this boy will continue to evolve: he seems genuinely galvanised and invigorated by strong competition and the threat of young ones taking away his records/medals. Trust even Yuzu's competitiveness to be Extra AF.
  12. According to the girl who trains at the TCC, it bit through an essential wire/belt for powering that cools the ice, so the ice rink basically melted
  13. Oh, what a beautiful photo and moment ( : I would die for a chance to make yuzu model for a proper photoshoot and not just a plain studio portrait
  14. Thought of why Yuzu's suits fit him so poorly... he has broad shoulders but I feel like he's buying off-the-rack stuff so the proportions aren't correct. Campaign to get him a tailored suit p l s
  15. Ahh, I was wondering what the pose was. It looked so cool - again, I love how fully realised Yuzu's SEIMEI program was. He really was the character, inside and out. I loved the article you linked - #photographerproblems is a real phenomenon
  16. Such was the case I didn't even know there was an ending pose - today I learned something new (I only ever saw the broadcast)
  17. I didn't realise there was a video, thank you @katonice - MY CROPS ARE WATERED AND MY SKIN IS CLEAR And yess, he does the 'Click Boom!' ending pose at 5:28!!! Jason is such a darling and I'm so glad he was such a fan that he literally campaigned for 2yrs to skate to it! If Lin tweets about it, hopefully it means even more prominence for figure skating~~~
  18. Ahh! I'm the biggest Hamilton fan and this is one of my favourite songs to sing~ It's an unusual pick in that it's very jazzy and sassy (minor keyyyy - also I'm absolutely hoping he'll keep the 'click boom!' part). I'm so interested to see how he'll adapt it to the short program (especially which parts he'll pick...there's a lot of spoken parts). I thought he'd go with a more lyrical piece like Wait for It or Burn but this is so exciting~ o:
  19. I may do one on Tumblr or I'll do one and post it here (I feel a little bad because half of us are seriously discussing Yuzu's flaws and other skaters, meanwhile I'm like 'HAVE SOME POKEMON GUYS!')
  20. Gallade is Psychic/Fighting type which..........is basically Yuzu Thinking about it, the Pokemon forms came quite quickly (this is strictly based off physical appearance and not who I think they'd have on their team as a trainer, which I may do when I'm bored and have a lot of time on my hands). APOLOGIES FOR RANDOMNESS in the middle of earnest skating discussion......... ;;;; Yuzu: Gallade (bonus: baby/primary form is Ralts) Boyang: Smeagle Nathan: Murkrow Shoma: Shieldon (or Shroomish when he's hangry LOL) Javi: Growlithe (or Totodile or Wartortle....there's a lot to pick for Javi) Patrick: Heracross (admittedly I struggled most with him!)
  21. The Pokemon talk got me on a random tangent thinking about what the various top figure skaters would be if they were Pokemon and somehow I feel like Yuzu would be a good Gallade (a huge part is because its baby/primary form is Ralts)
  22. whispers it's actually Groudon! #pokemonnerd but also a legendary Pokemon, so your comment still fits! I'm more amused that the son has like 3 Azumarills and 1 Maril. I guess he was breeding them???
  23. Yep, basically they were amused when they looked at what their son had called his Pokemon (particularly bemused as to why the son even included Brian). Also, the disregard for gender was typical of their son. I guess their son was raised on a diet of Yuzu and figure skating
